Hello! Sam from Moz's Help Team here! So -  after being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. However, there are a lot of factors which can affect our ability to find and index links to your site. It's important to note that we are always adding new data to our index, but it may take some time for us to discover backlinks to your site based on factors like crawlability of the referring pages, quality of the links and the referring pages, and more. If you are not seeing links that you know you have, you may want to make sure that they can be indexed. It is also a good idea to check to see if we've indexed the page on which that link is found. If we haven't indexed the referring page yet, you won't see your link in our index. You can also add links to Link Tracking Lists. Once you add a link to your tracking lists we will add that page to be crawled. As long as it is accessible to our crawler, you should see the link in our index as soon as we can index those pages. Lastly, I have a great guide here with some things to check around why we may not have found your links yet: https://moz.com/help/link-explorer/link-building/moz-isnt-finding-your-links If you'd like any further information, please feel free to pop us an email over at help@moz.com. Hi, No, MOZ does not have any option to disavow links and you should not be worried about disavowing links in Moz. Instead, disavow them from the Google Search Console because Google is the search engine that ranks your site according to proper linking.

Hi, Great question, Link Explorer and the Links tab of Moz Pro Campaigns are both tied to our Link index, which is constantly updating. After being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. When discovered or lost links are found, we'll update our database to reflect those changes in your scores and link counts. We prioritize the links we crawl based on a machine learning algorithm to mimic Google's index. This does not mean that DA and PA will change with every data update, though; it will only change if we find new link data for a respective site. I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly when your DA will update it depends on when we find new equity passing backlinks to your site. You can read more about our new Link Explorer tool and our index here. You can also read more about how our Link index compares with our competitors here https://backlinko.com/best-backlink-checker Feel free to reach out to help@moz.com with any further questions

Hi snjaoieiw, To get a detailed answer from Moz staff on what DA is, you might consider searching the Q&A forum. In short, though, it is a Moz metric (not a Google or Bing metric) that takes into consideration the number (and quality) of backlinks your website has. That said, have you been working on building up high quality backlinks? -Zack

  • That was a good test. Then chances are your default natural rankings have gone down. If it's not personal search causing it then, look at some some of my other suggestions above. It's likely to be a number of different factors which some research and corresponding changes to your site could do the trick

  • Hi Andrew, A 301 redirect will delude your link juice for the URL that's being 301'd. At to why it's so drastic on Google, you probably blame Panda as Google may be seeing it as duplicate content for the same keyword. Hope this helps! Erica

  • Before you dig deep into SEO, I think that it would be best to plan the following..... *  The objectives of your website (what do you want to accomplish for yourself and what you want your visitors to do that will make your goals happen) *  The content strategy for your site... create a list of content resources for your site, determine where they will come from, how they will work together to accomplish your goals The above will work together to determine the design of your site, the navigation and the keywords that you will be attacking. After you have done the above then read the SEOMoz Beginners Guide to SEO.  Then, after you know something about SEO, go back and revisit the objectives outlined above and tweak based upon what you have learned.  Then, go back and restudy SEO. Defining your objectives and determining how they can be promoted with SEO are two very important parts of being a good webmaster.

  • Title Pages are easy to fix, so i would suggest fixing those asap. Think of it this way, imagine you had 20 friends in a room and they were all named BOB. If i had to walk in and ask for BOB, then who would i speak to and know which one i need..lol.. The same applies to the search engines and duplicate page titles...which page do they go to if they are all called the same;-) As for the site structure, no, i wouldnt be too worried about this at all. It was just a suggestion in case you had duplicate page content issues. Which is no So dont worry about it. I would recommend that you Google panda update, and read up on these issues like duplicate content etc. If you found this useful then please click answered

  • Close Eric. http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6100 Broad Match  = similar phrases and relevant variations (synonyms included) That's why when you want to check a specific search volume is better if you put phrase and exact match to show. Broad includes to many variations in my opinion to estimate correct search volume.

If you wrote us using an SEOmoz account email, you can also view your ticket here: http://seomoz.zendesk.com/tickets/41376 Aaron Wheeler, Oct-27 14:03 (PDT): Hey Tom, Thanks for reaching out about this, and I'm sorry you're not seeing your links in OSE. It sounds pretty frustrating, and totally understandably so. As you know, we have made some updates to our crawling for Linkscape - sadly, with a few hiccups. This is the first quarte including the new metrics, which is why you're suddenly seeing the changes. Our new crawler is built to be fresher, but it is going deeper into domains, and, unfortunately, not visiting as many domains. This is probably why links from those domains aren't getting indexed. Domains with a high mozRank are getting crawled deeper, but domains with middle to lower mozRanks are not getting crawled. Our top priority now is to get the domain diversity back up to or better than that of our last quarter updates (as was originally designed) so that we should have many more inbound links. If you're interested, here's a link to the blog post about the update's metrics (it sounds like you may have read this): http://www.seomoz.org/q/link-analysis (scroll down to Kate's answer). Also, just to be completely transparent about the update, you may see “questionable” links with weird file extensions - this is due to the crawler reaching much deeper into sites where there are more download links. We are looking into fixing this bug as soon as we can so these won’t be counted as links. I hope this helps explain the changes. We are so sorry about the inconvenience and are focusing our efforts right now on getting this fixed! I wish there was more I could do for you personally, but at the moment, it's a matter of waiting for the index to expand. I've closed this ticket for now, but please let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I can do to help and the ticket will open right back up. Have a great day, Aaron -- Aaron Wheeler SEOmoz Help Team http://www.seomoz.org/team/aaron

  • TBH it's a while ago I heard it and can't remember which site it was on. I've subscribed to so many SEO forums!! Happy to get fresh advice on the matter as I have no particular desire to have the sitemaps crawlable or visible on the site. What are your feelings about ROR, RSS and OPML sitemaps?

  • Hi Dennis, SEOmoz will track rankings for all of the pages crawled within the root domain or subdomain that you have entered for your campaign, so the answer is NO. If you are seeing different results when you check rankings manually in Google, you need to keep in mind that the SEOmoz Ranking report provides non-personalized results. Also, the way in which embedded local results appear in the SERPs will affect the result. When they are normal results with enhanced local listing they are counted.  If they appear in a 6,8, or 12 pack they are not counted. While Google continues to experiment with local listings, the SEOmoz team continues to respond with updates. Hope that helps, Sha PS - If you want to optimize different pages for your keywords using the On-page Analysis tool, you can click "Report Card" in the On-page tool. You will see a selector at the top where you can type in any URL and choose any keyword from your list.

  • Hi Volkinator, The 5XX Error is a generic error message which means that the crawler encountered an Internal Server Error. You will need to check your server logs for information that will point you to the source of the error - generally this will be a server software error that needs fixing. If you don't have the expertise to do this you will need to ask your Techs or Server administrator to fix it for you. The Overly Dynamic URL notice is a Warning, rather than an Error. This is intended to bring to your attention the fact that these URL's contain more than 2 parameters. While search engines can crawl dynamic URL's, representatives of some search engines have advised that the inclusion of more than 2 parameters may negatively impact their ability to crawl. The Warning is provided by the SEOmoz Pro App so that you have the opportunity to correct the situation if you wish, however this may not always be possible. It is essentially your choice whether you pursue a fix for this one or not. Generally, if you have a small number of URLs with this problem it is probably not going to have a huge effect on your site. However, if the URL's concerned happen to be those related to your most important products or services, then you may want to get them fixed. The 302 Redirect notice is also a Warning rather than an error. The main reason for highlighting them is to make you aware that they are not passing link value from page to page. If you have redirected the URLs with the intention that they will always point to the new URL, you should consider changing them to 301 Redirects as this will allow link value to flow from page to page. One reason for a lot of 302 Redirects on an ecommerce site may be that Buy buttons are set up to 302 redirect instead of using standard links. If yours is an ecommerce site and you have a lot of 302's this could be the reason. Also a Warning, the Too Many On-page Links notice is telling you that there are more than 100 links on the page. The explanation at the top of the page when you click the button to see the URLs in question is probably the best way of explaining. Here it is: "You should avoid having too many (roughly defined as more than 100) hyperlinks on any given page. When search engine spiders crawl the Internet they are limited by technology resources and are only able to crawl a certain number of links per webpage. In addition, search engine algorithms divide the value of some popularity metrics by the amount of links on a given page. This means that each of the pages being linked to from a given page are also affected by the number of links on the linking page. For these reasons, we recommend you include less than 100 links per page to ensure that they are all crawled, though if your pages have a high page authority, search engines will usually follow more links." The most important part of this is the watering down of link value, but sometimes extensive navigation will mean that you are more prone to having more than 100 links on the page. Once again, it is your decision as to whether you accept the issue as sub-optimal, but unavoidable, or whether you pursue a fix. Hope that helps Sha

  • This topic affects everyone and Rand offered a specific reply to address these concerns. In short, they are working on the issue but there is only an opportunity to make adjustments once per month. Then the crawler is set to do it's job and the results wont be seen for another month. The crawler has to go out and pull data from literally billions of web pages. The data then needs to be processed which takes 1-2 weeks. The team is also trying to improve the quality of the tool as well. My recommendation is to use OSE as a guide, not a solid list of all links. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/november-2011-linkscape-update

  • Thanks. Forgot about the 2nd Twitter link. The 2nd FB link actually allows a visitor to signup for the email list and actually does get used, but differently than the FB icon. We removed the subcategory links from the Decor section as well. This cuts down quite a bit on the number of links. Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Hi Aran, Some of the links are gone from this latest crawl, more will be gone in November, and they should be almost all gone by December. See Rand's post at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/november-2011-linkscape-update. As I noted in the September index update, we have had some serious issues when crawling deeper on large domains and encountering binary files that contain code our crawler recognizes and treats as a link. To help stop this problem, we applied a black list to this index to stop a large number of the files folks had reported to us (our estimate is that ~40% of binary files are now removed). However, we know there's still more than a few of these in the database of links so we'll continue cranking away on solutions to remove them all. Our hope is to have them reduced in the next index (November) and nearly eliminated by the December index. If you're ever curious about the next/previous updates, you can always see data for them on our Linkscape calendar.

  • Probably not the easiest way: I'd just run an advanced report with external links to any page on this root domain. You get up to 100.000 backlinks which equal 1/3 in your case. Then you order them by URL, so you can see which URL provides more than let's say 100 backlinks and with text filter you can extract the exact amount per "mass-linking" domain. After you identified those sitewide linking sites, you can filter them out, so you have a number of links that's more meaningful.

  • Hey LL - totally hear you on both fronts. With Linkscape, Ryan's precisely right. We went crawling deeper on large sites, and, as I noted in the blog posts around this issue, encountered these binary files. We attempted a fix for the past index using a blacklist of file types. It only caught about 40% of them. We were hoping that would be closer to 90%. We've got two new indices running. One that launches mid-November that will have more of these files removed but not all, and another in December when we think we'll have them all cleaned out. In terms of Google's search query data in Keyword Difficulty, that does suck. Google turned off our API access and we've been going back and forth with them to try to turn it on. We, along with a few hundred other tools, got shut off all together and trying to get back in has been a long, painful process. However, the tool does not rely on this data to get accurate reports (difficulty doesn't care how many times something's searched, just how competitive the top results are, which is what we look at). Thus, the tool's still fully operational, and you can still grab the KW data from Google's AdWords tool or your own API access (not as convenient, I agree). TL;DR - We're fixing the OSE binary files issue by December (maybe sooner) and working with Google to try to get the Adwords API data back in KW Diff (but no guarantees). Hope that helps and a million thanks to Ryan for jumping in and helping out on this. He's not an official rep or a Moz employee, but seriously appreciate him going above and beyond.
