  • A further question is if I limit my area to say my state if it was in the US would the word flowers include flowers statename or statename flowers? It didn't look like anyone else answered this part so I'll jump in.  If you target a specific state with the keyword "flowers" (and you're using anything other than exact match), Adwords default campaign settings will target people within that state that search for your keyword, as well as people around the world that search for that state with the keyword.  For example, if your targeted location is California, if people in New Jersey search for "California flowers", they may see your ad.  This option is in the campaign settings under location options (advanced)> Target.  The default is "People in, searching for, or viewing pages about my targeted location (recommended)", but you can change it to "People in my targeted location" or "People searching for or viewing pages about my targeted location".  Here's the Google help article talking more about these options.

  • Redo the Sitemap and resubmit. Depends on what you are using for CMS there are some really good modules or plugins that help you do a good site map. I use Joomla XML site map. Works great and google initially only crawls portions of all your pages on your server side not all but 4% is fairly low it usually is like 50% ? REDO everything you should have any problems

  • I recommend having a read of the following posts i've written on this topic. The answer is always somewhat nuanced, but hopefully this will give you a good overview of the perspective you should be taking when trying to answer your question. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/hosting-and-embedding-for-video-seo http://www.seomoz.org/blog/building-a-video-seo-strategy http://www.distilled.net/training/video-marketing-guide/

  • Michelle - we were using the API quite a bit for SEO keyword research, but eventually had the account cancelled by Google - probably because we had a relatively minor Adwords spend in relation to our API usage.  In the meantime we ended up using the SEM Rush api.  It's pretty easy to use and they seem to have access to a pretty deep set of keyword data. I know other people, including SEOMoz have had the same issue: http://www.seomoz.org/q/loss-of-google-adwords-api I tried out a few other APIs at the time.  Bings tool seemed to have potential, but it only returned very limited keyword data.  I think I looked at Wordtracker and another one, but they seemed to be quite expensive compared to other options, based on the pricing model they used.

  • By failed press release I mean this...  Sometimes you put in all the effort, write for people, not SEO, do your best to make it interesting, relevant, and newsworthy, and it just doesn't get picked up.  If the release isn't picked up, there's not really any link building and the SEO benefits are severely limited. Thus the idea to re-roll such content into guest blogging material.  Naturally you wouldn't try to copy/paste into a blog.  In my experience there's a decent amount of time that went into the content creation for that press release, which hasn't left much of a footprint in Google ("failed PR").  Since you did the work on the content creation, why not try to keep leveraging it in other mediums until you get some return on the time you spent creating the content. I like your idea about reversing the guest blogging order, but how do you do that if you don't have a blog?

  • This may not be a good answer, but at a time there was a chrome add-on that you could analyze meta tags, but at the same time there was a sticky note, it would then allow you to email, or save file after you commented on it.  This may not be 100% what your looking for, but you may want to check it out if you can't find anything else.  I wish I knew what it was called, but this was about 9 months ago I seen it and I didn't have a use for it at the time, so I got rid of it. Have a great night. MB

  • Hello, Generally this is what I do.  I complement someones site right away.  Tell them that they are very smart for thinking of a site like theirs, etc, etc.  Talk them up and make them feel good inside.  Then offer then something if you have it to give.  I have a lot of sites that I allow others to place guest posts on , press releases, etc.. I then ask at the end of it, if I can place a link on their site.  If they respond no, then I try 1 more time with a better offer, and I leave it at that.  I have found that emailing someone over and over generally just gets old to them and they may ignore you or block you.  I try to get my point across with 1 email and make it sound good.   They already know if they are going to accept a link on their site or not before you even message them. Have a great night. MB

  • Hi Bob! Matt from BuzzStream reached out to me and asked me to post this for him: Hi Bob, Matt from BuzzStream here.  The prospecting tool can be a little bit tricky the first time you use it - let me see if I can help. The prospecting tool looks for link opportunities based on link building queries.  For an ecommerce site, you'd want to look for product review opportunities, blogs that accepts guest posts, and product review opportunities. For guest posts related to your industry, you probably want to look for something like: [MDKW] "write for us" [MDKW] inurl:category/guest (MDKW is a market defining keyword, as defined here - http://dejanseo.com.au/market-defining-keywords/) For product reviews, you'll want to use searches like: [product name] intitle: Review These product reviews are particularly excellent for ecommerce sites, because they both a) link to deep pages, and b) can drive traffic that converts. If I were running an ecommerce site, I'd also look for links page to do some broken link building, with queries like: [MDKW] links [MDKW] Resources Russ Jones wrote a comprehensive post on broken link building here on the SEOmoz blog - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-broken-link-building-bible We at BuzzStream also put together a blog post and a video about how to use them: http://www.buzzstream.com/blog/how-to-find-great-opportunities- with-the-buzzstream-prospecting-module.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YSIoYL5iXc Hope this helps - feel free to email me at matt (at) buzzstream dot com with more questions. Thanks Matt

  • You can do a similar task manually with search strings and excel to track everything, but the beauty of a web app like Ontolo is that it can track which sites you want to approach and which you reject and therefor won't re-appear in your prospecting queue. Assuming you are using it for outreach prospecting, I've personally found BuzzStream to be a great replacement for Ontolo, and with significant cost savings (the plan we're using compared to the plan we had with Ontolo.) It's more user friendly and has a better interface in my opinion. Of course you still need to configure it for optimal results. The guys a BuzzStream were very helpful when I started with their product, giving our team a personal live webinar and checking in to see if we needed any assistance in setup. BuzzStream also has an email client app built in that can streamline the outreach process. I'll stop now, I sound like a fan boy! Good luck.

  • They did in fact mirror our sites. Anyone who will be using them needs to ensure that before the campaign rolls out you implement Rel Canonical tags on your pages. Then ask them to no-index their mirrored copy of your site.

  • We are looking for such kind of solution too. Except of mentioned above we are considering the start-up AdBooster which looks extremely fine.

  • Well we want to influence the amount of leads coming to our channel partners by opening the channels directly instead of having people contact us first and then telling them they have to buy through someone else. What we want is for people to contact our channel partners directly about our service without having to go through us. We have a budget for our channel partners in other ways to promote our service (tradeshow budget etc.) so I want to try and implement that model in PPC.

  • Hi Steven, As Zora has mentioned, Yext offers a manual citation editing tool. It will discover many citations for you to edit, but it will not discover all of them. Recommend you read this article: http://www.ngsmarketing.com/why-yext-might-not-be-the-best-fit-for-your-business/ So, you really have 3 options: 1) Do everything yourself manually 2) Use Yext for some automation and then do the rest manually, or hire a someone to do the manual part for you. 3) Hire someone to do all of the work manually to be sure everything has been corrected. Nyagoslav Zhekov, whose article I've linked to above, does manual citation editing as a paid service. Darren Shaw of Whitespark is another fantastic resource on the topic of citations. Hope this helps!

  • Well, we tried both, and ultimately liked BuzzStream better for what we needed, but both exceed in different areas.  It seems best at it's smooth organization of all of the relationships and integration with gmail.  The discovery tools do work, but if you're serious about your link building, it should be just one tool of many in your link prospecting arsenal. I have to say that there isn't a tool to pull in a competitors' OSE backlinks and create a series of BuzzStream tasks (that I know of), but that does sound like it would be really useful.
