  • Anybody who has dough to blow can get a document published on PRweb. As long ago as 2005 Matt Cutts was betting that those links were not too valuable. http://forums.seroundtable.com/showthread.php?t=51 Are they against Google's guidelines?  I'd say probably not, but that's foggy, because you are paying for an announcement, and the links are part of the service.  It is a lot different from buying anchor text links on a website. I would not submit anything to PRweb even if it was free.... or even if they paid me $50 to write a press release.  There is more valuable uses for my time and I believe that the site has so much rubbish that most good news reporters (and their robots) also have better uses for their time.

  • Post the link of your site. It will be easier to give you an opinion if I look at it.

  • Hey Neil, I just wanted to add that putting an accurate transcript next to the video is another way to get Google to crawl what's in the video, and this can be optimized for long/short tail terms if a script is written prior to filming. Also, along the same lines as what Dana was saying, you should think about what the purpose of your videos will be; conversion or brand awareness.  If you want to build links and increase traffic, put interesting, quirky videos on YouTube.  If you want to increase conversion rates, put product/service videos on your website.  You can also add Meta data to your video if they are self hosted, which will aid in getting rich snippets for your videos in SERPS. I know Phil Nottingham has an excellent video on Distilled that talks about this, maybe someone here at SEOMoz could link to that if it's available anywhere other than through DistilledU?

  • I used Yext late last year and they got me listed in a lot of directories. I can not tie it to an ROI though. I show up in search and I'm in the directories but, 100% of my business is referral.

  • Yeah, I have that problem sometimes as well. If a client is new to paid search and they don't understand a lot yet you can keep it simple. If you deliver SEO reports on keywords, include a report on the top converting & top traffic KWs from Paid Search as well. As far as costs and stuff go, it depends on how detailed you want to go. I think you could probably stick with a simple information if the client doesn't want to know much. @AnnieCushing is definitely someone to follow if you're looking for excel tips.

  • Hello Nick, Thanks for your answer. We determine that we got penalized when we found that most of our primary keywords which sent us traffic got disappeared from the ranking after the penguin update. We did not rush with the decision of using Disavow, we lost our ranking in May 2012 and till Dec 2012 we tried to make corrections to get aligned with the Penguin guidelines. We did not see any improvements and in Jan 2013 we decided to use Disavow. Yes, we did used Open Site Explorer to extract our backlinks, we also used Ahrefs and Bing to collect backlink data. Our concern is with the unusual change in the number of backlinks in Google webmaster tool. After we sent our Disavow list Google immediately removed all those backlinks from their record and we saw a sudden decrease in our number of backlinks in the Google Webmaster tool, this appeared to us that Google is re-considering our website, but after a week the backlinks that were removed and disavowed appeared again in the webmaster tool. In fact we disavowed twice and if you see the below table again you will notice an unusual fluctuation in the backlink numbers. Date     Scenario 03-Jan     Google webmaster shows 112,317 Backlinks 07-Jan     First Disavow List Sent 07-Jan     Reconsideration Sent 27-Jan     Google webmaster shows 38,678 backlinks        No Improvements in ranking 04-Feb     Second Disavow List Sent - (Does not include backlinks we disavow in the first list) 05-Feb     Google webmaster shows 7,164 backlinks 11-Feb     Google webmaster shows 1,892 backlinks 12-Feb     Google webmaster shows 36,808 backlinks Backlinks are the cause for Penguin penalization according to Google and other experts, therefore we are so much concerned about mentioning and discussing it. ================================================================== We are also expecting an answers from someone at the SEOMOZ Staff

  • Have a read of this page http://www.seomoz.org/blog/retargeting-basics-what-it-is-how-to-use-it half way down it has a paragraph on remarketing and how it is Google's 'word'. If you are looking into retargeting I highly recommend investigating multiple stage remarketing (link above). The blog you listed, well yes, I think you are right to search for other sources of reference

  • Thanks for the response Mark. Yes this particular website does not use a Wordpress or Joomla CMS, it is a custom built CMS (don't get me started!). I was hoping that there was some fancy bit of software out there that would allow me to enter a load of questions & answers and plug this into the website using some simple code. As things stand the only way I can seem to do it is as you state, by using standard pages and interlinking them manually. I was hoping that a plug-in would allow me to create a searchable hub of questions that almost exist outside of the main website (although does provide SEO benefits in the form of new unique content).

  • Tell that to my brand new exact match cheap SEO site ranking on page 1 for cheap SEO.  It's such a fresh index you can only see 4 backlinks in SEOMOZ explorer. Not to mention the other 57 keywords like cheap seo services, and a lot of others I am ranking for it...  3 weeks and have ranked for all of those terms... Cheap SEO isn't  that easy to get page 1 for or everyone would have it and wouldn't have to pay $7.50 a click in ppc to get to it right? Have a good night and thanks for stopping by. MB

  • Hope this helps. Straight from Google: <a class="zippy zippy-auth zippy-expand">Authorization policy</a> A trademark owner (or contact person listed on the trademark complaint) can provide Google with authorization to let specific AdWords accounts use the trademark in ad campaigns. Here are some important things to know about authorizations: Who needs authorization Any AdWords advertiser wanting to use a trademark after a complaint was filed must be authorized, including the trademark owner themselves, official affiliates and partners, regional branches, franchisees, and subsidiaries. Trademark owners can authorize advertisers (including themselves if they have an AdWords account) in their complaint form or in a separate authorization form. Authorization is given to individual AdWords accounts, so the trademark owner must submit the customer ID of each AdWords account they want to authorize. Any master (MCC) account numbers will automatically have authorization extended to all current and future child accounts. The process For advertisers: To request that an account be authorized, please contact the trademark owner directly and ask that they fill out the form mentioned below. Google cannot arrange the authorization for you. For trademark owners: Use this authorization form to request authorization for an AdWords account. Only the official trademark owner or the contact person listed on the trademark complaint can authorize the use of their trademark. We are not able to accept requests from regional branches or subsidiaries of the trademark owner, unless previously designated by the trademark owner. We can either prohibit all use or allow all use of a particular term by an advertiser. Therefore, we cannot accept conditional authorization requests that include a time expiration or limitations on use of the term in specific contexts. The trademark owner may change or rescind authorization at any time. http://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6118

  • Hi! I can't answer all your questions but I can help with at least one and get you on the right track for another. Whiteboard Friday uses Speechpad.  At the bottom of every WBF it says: Video transcription by Speechpad.com So that one we can handle. For your iTunes question, start here:  http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/creatorfaq.html The last question relates to having multiple podcasts and them creating an "artist page" for you.  It's not a full answer but it may get you started in the right direction. I saw this post hadn't been answered for a few days so I think something is better than nothing?

  • On top of social networking as Chris and David mentioned you can also use your content to reach your target market and earn back-links by getting the content promoted on contest websites specific to your location/industry and also approach community websites to promote it.
