  • Thanks David The site has a mobile template that displays on a smart phone only. I think I am just going to ask the developer to do the extra work to use the same URL as the site and recognize that a user is on a mobile smart phone. I would like to see the site move to a responsive design.

  • Hi Maureen - sadly, I suspect this has to do with the DDoS attacks we've been facing all weekend (and we're still recovering). A piece published in the NYTimes (http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/06/19/tally-of-cyber-extortion-attacks-on-tech-companies-grows/) apparently enraged the attackers and they hit us very hard all through Friday-Sunday. I believe the PDF report export should be working very soon. If it isn't by tonight, please email our help team - help@moz.com - and they can assist.

  • Thanks Rand. I hadn't thought about a plug-in causing a conflict. I'll try disabling them and see if I can find the cause that way. It works fine in Safari, so that would make sense.

  • If you use cpanel for hosting, it is super easy. http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/AllDocumentation/CpanelDocs/ReDirects If not, the same basic principle applies. If you want to send me the new url where you want it to go to, I can code you a redirect function that will work.

  • Hi, Thanks for the response. My apologies for the impreciseness of my language, but I was trying to describe a unique situation, where the client has or wants to create a "destination" page on their website for a specific keyword but also ultimately push traffic onward to the signup page, which sits on their corporate app server and a completely different domain. In a perfect world, the form would be on their "destination" page (which would make it a true landing page) but I don't believe that is technically or bureaucratically possible. Not looking for a lesson, just some insight on whether Google would reduce the SEO value of the "destination" page for ultimately directing traffic elsewhere. I don't think it would as long as the "destination" page was buttoned up with good structure and quality backlinks. But again, looking for confirmation or thoughts to the contrary. Ultimately, I think the client is looking for me to give him something to go back to his management team and argue for development resources to put the form on his "destination" page. I can think of plenty of reasons to do it from a process and user experience perspective, but nothing really from an SEO rationale.

  • There are  possible approaches around this that I can see.  The first might be to get rid of your new web site from the web after which absolutely noindex your antique site (blocking through robots.Txt may not do it - I've attempted.) You can then use the URL of office chair elimination tool to do away with the old web site absolutely from the index.

  • Thanks for letting us know about this. I looked into this, and we were experiencing intermittent issues with our tools as a result of ongoing DDoS attacks this past weekend. I am so, so sorry for the inconvenience this is causing you. Our website is back up, but we are having trouble communicating with some of our partners like Google or Facebook. I expect everything to be fully functioning in the next few hours, tomorrow at the latest. We recheck the listings, but I would recommend then deleting the listings and re-upload your CSV then. Rest assured, Moz engineers are working as hard as possible to resolve the tacks and resulting instability. For ongoing status updates, please visit Moz Health (http://health.moz.com/). For details on the DDoS attacks on Moz, please check out this article from the NYTimes: Tally of Cyber Extortion on Tech Companies Grows (http://nyti.ms/1yE0NIe). Thank you so much for your patience. We really appreciate it! --Ken

  • Hi Ruben it isn't the numbers of people, and that is already after a week of the rankings going down significantly, normally my numbers would be on the 100+ per week. The main problem is the organic keywords dropping from 6 top 3 keywords and over 10 top 10's to 0 top 10 keywords and my best placed keyword is ranking 11th. This is the main problem.

  • I would say it depends on whether an entity is detected. Imagine there is a company named "Real SEO." Google crawls a website that mentions them. Google sees the word "real" and then the word "seo." Normally, Google would see that "real" is an adjective that is modifying the noun "seo." So normally, this would be viewed as two separate, distinct words. However, in this example, "real seo" is a brand and an "entity." So, even though the two words are first viewed separately, Google has become smart enough to figure out that when those two separate words are found in that order, then they are together referring to a single "thing." For more on entities in search, I'd read the Moz posts here, here, here, and here.
