Best set up for mobile site for SEO

Hello

Does anyone have any input into what is the best way to have a mobile website URL structure for not responsive display sites.

mobile.site.com

www.site.com/m/

or neither have it just display on the same URL.

If you are not using a separate mobile template or service, just allow the URL's that display on the desktop results to index for your mobile version. (display only) The look of the mobile version might not be the best in the world, but you dont want to create a problem where there is none by trying to get your site ranking higher on mobile searches using a custom URL

Having a separate URL structure for the mobile version can be tricky. If done improperly this will cause Google to index both results, and display both in desktop searches aka duplicte content across two separate URL's.

The site has a mobile template that displays on a smart phone only. I think I am just going to ask the developer to do the extra work to use the same URL as the site and recognize that a user is on a mobile smart phone. I would like to see the site move to a responsive design.
