Hello! Sam from Moz's Help Team here! So -  after being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. However, there are a lot of factors which can affect our ability to find and index links to your site. It's important to note that we are always adding new data to our index, but it may take some time for us to discover backlinks to your site based on factors like crawlability of the referring pages, quality of the links and the referring pages, and more. If you are not seeing links that you know you have, you may want to make sure that they can be indexed. It is also a good idea to check to see if we've indexed the page on which that link is found. If we haven't indexed the referring page yet, you won't see your link in our index. You can also add links to Link Tracking Lists. Once you add a link to your tracking lists we will add that page to be crawled. As long as it is accessible to our crawler, you should see the link in our index as soon as we can index those pages. Lastly, I have a great guide here with some things to check around why we may not have found your links yet: https://moz.com/help/link-explorer/link-building/moz-isnt-finding-your-links If you'd like any further information, please feel free to pop us an email over at help@moz.com. We do also have a great guide to Domain Authority just here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority

Hi, No, MOZ does not have any option to disavow links and you should not be worried about disavowing links in Moz. Instead, disavow them from the Google Search Console because Google is the search engine that ranks your site according to proper linking.

Hi, Great question, Link Explorer and the Links tab of Moz Pro Campaigns are both tied to our Link index, which is constantly updating. After being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. When discovered or lost links are found, we'll update our database to reflect those changes in your scores and link counts. We prioritize the links we crawl based on a machine learning algorithm to mimic Google's index. This does not mean that DA and PA will change with every data update, though; it will only change if we find new link data for a respective site. I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly when your DA will update it depends on when we find new equity passing backlinks to your site. You can read more about our new Link Explorer tool and our index here. You can also read more about how our Link index compares with our competitors here https://backlinko.com/best-backlink-checker Feel free to reach out to help@moz.com with any further questions

Hi snjaoieiw, To get a detailed answer from Moz staff on what DA is, you might consider searching the Q&A forum. In short, though, it is a Moz metric (not a Google or Bing metric) that takes into consideration the number (and quality) of backlinks your website has. That said, have you been working on building up high quality backlinks? -Zack

  • Thank you both for the responses... I guess it was just a matter of time in my case. It looks like the keywords crawl/report comes in a few hours "after" the initial crawl email from Moz... not sure why, but about 15 minutes after I posted this question, I received the email titled "New Rankings and On-Page Reports Ready" that included the keyword rankings! Thanks again

  • When you say that "each one has it own canonical tag to its own individual page", do you mean that "./name-of-the-page-categoryone" has a canonical pointing back to "/name-of-the-page"? Are there other variations (sorts, filters, etc)? Typically, it's best not to have different categories land you on custom URLs with the same content. If, for example, a product appears in multiple categories, you should still land on one unified URL when you actual click to the product, regardless of the path/category used to get you there. That said, rel=canonical should work, and our tools should generally honor it. I have a feeling that there's something more complicated going on here.

  • Hi Reece, Data for OSE is collected straight through the APIs of the various social services, so whatever they return is what we display. As others have mentioned, metrics are URL specific. For Facebook, we display the activity of the URL you are examining, which is different than the activity around your Facebook page. Hope this helps explain things a bit. Best of luck!

  • Thanks! I Guess getting more backlinks is the ones I am missing. Anyway I Thought the Open Site Explorer was checking backlinks and taking this into account for total score. So when I score higher than many pages, this should be taken into account. Still I am way below these pages. My page now moved 5 pages up on google since I posted this post. I wish I would have any answers on why it was so low rated and why it suddenly move 5 pages. If someone could show me any tools for this it would be great! Also I dont see any improvement list for my page in my right hand column of the On page grader. How should I get this ? The only thing that I see is default suggestions below the grading on how to improve a page, or any site.

  • Yes be careful with back links Adrian. If you employ a company with a good reputation, they'll make sure the building blocks for your company link strategy is authoritative, as well as informative for the targeted audience. Google algorithms will penalise poor links for sure. In the last 3 years, Social Media has had a massive impact on link development. Social Media is the future for "authentic" link development. Regards, Gary

  • These are my main points. If my links are taking me tweeting them to get added (some are over a year old with good PA) then my competitors need to tweet their backlinks as well. But if they do not know to do that, then the Mozscape that I am looking at for my competitors is seriously out of date as well. If I start noticing positive changes in their sites, I cannot do any kind of research with Mozscape, since the index is outdated. About your first crawl statement. What you are saying is there are two indexes, correct? One index that has pages with PA and DA assigned. Then another index of pages that have actually been crawled. Then you merge those indexes to make the Mozscape index and pages with PS and DA that have not been crawled are just orphaned and used for the toolbar. What factors decide whether a page is crawled or just assigned a rank? And how can Mozscape be deemed accurate without actually using referral url information?

  • What happened was I was using a URL rename textbox in the back end of our ecommerce platform. For the past year I have been renaming the URLs to fit keywords, sometimes renaming them a second time when the page drastically changed. I figured the cart was doing a 301 redirect every time I renamed the URL, but instead of doing that, it did a 301 redirect the first time, then each additional time I renamed the URL, it just left a blank white page on the old URL. Do I need to fix these blank white pages, or are they being filtered out by Google and won't harm the site's rankings? I don't know if a custom 404 page - I could do that - is a good idea since they were once category pages. A custom 404 would be a good idea but I'm wondering if I have to do more.

  • Find your true competitors, then use SEM rush and see if that helps. Also everything is relative, so if moz says its medium competition and there's no one searching for it the reality is that it's probably not that hard to rank for it.

  • Sorry for the very slow response. Your data is still there (nothing lost), and is displayed historically in the graphs, but the detailed data is only shown for the latest week or day. We have 2 projects on our roadmap that will make this better in the platform. The first is monthly timeframes, so you can see changes in larger chunks over months instead of weeks. The other, is the ability to look at the detail data for past weeks (and months when that is in place). I don't have a timeframe on historical yet, but we should have more clarity around our plans for that feature in January.

  • I'm a little bit leery of enabling the asker of this question but here goes...  Just be sure you use the information for good. I've done this myself (to ban a spammer) by just using cPanel or whatever server software you have going on.  cPanel makes it very easy to see all of the recent IP addresses arriving to your server and what they requested.  The raw server logs should have the same info if not more. This would be the most direct and complete route and you wouldn't need any additional software.  If you're looking for a software solution other than that I'd check out one of the recommendations above.  Depending on what CMS platform your site is on (WordPress, VBulletin etc) there may be a plugin that does something that will get the job done.  Would need to know what you're trying to do though.  Sounds rather ominous as it stands. Edit: and to answer your question about Moz: NO it doesn't have this feature and likely never will.

  • Hey everyone! Unfortunately right now our API can only provide site specific data as we indicate on apiwiki.moz.com. We may look into providing an API that would pull campaign data that may or may not include rankings and to help our product team obtain feedback on what you would like to see, I highly encourage everyone interested to post and update a request on our feature request forum: https://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-seomoz-pro-feature-requests

  • The problem is that plugin you are using, "Wordfence". It is probably picking up the crawls from Screaming Frog and Moz as DoS attacks because of the amount of requests from the same IPs. You could either see if the plugin IP whitelisting or why don't you just remove that plugin and use CloudFlare, which is free and offer an even more robust security option + an included CDN.

  • They were ironed out for quite some time, and just yesterday we started having some problems with the CSV export. We're working on it right now, though it may be a few days to get all of the backlog caught up and things back up to speed. It is currently taking a couple of days for reports to generate right now. We're in the process of adding an alert to OSE to let people know about this. Keri

  • Hi! Unfortunately, we're having known issues surrounding adding a G+ business page to your Moz Analytics campaigns right now. Our engineers have this in their top priority to work on, but I know it's really frustrating. You might try removing your personal page -- which was a bug when MA was first released and MA won't let you add a user profile anymore -- and then try adding your business page. Hope this helps!
