Discuss the online marketing tools that help you to succeed.

  • Clearly the most important factor in social bookmarking success is the number of upvotes or shares/re-posts of a link. The more active networks will obviously do better: I only intend to ask if there is one that seems to have a lot of value that isn't making headlines...

  • I agree with the branding vs. SEO discussion on this topic--it's a mix really. People like efficiency, and when it comes to typing web site addresses, it's no exception. Our company name is 'SMC Corporation of America' but when it came to domains, we went with SMCUSA.com. SMC.com would have been better, but was already taken by SMC Network Equipment. You may also want to consider other domains, such as .net, .biz, .us, etc. While it seems Google prefers .com names, it may provide you with more options and you can use a name for branding purposes.

  • MenInKilts- If you want to do something solid in Canada, they are one of the best. They arent a division of Ypages canada....they own Ypages Canada network or have the exclusive rights to manage it.  These guys arent cheap but they can deliver solid results in online and traditional media outlets in Canada. We used them for several very defined digital marketing campaigns for large clients and they did a stellar job....for a large brand that wants exposure in Canada, great choice..... Hope this helps. Mark

  • Another option for you, with a high quality business and site, is a newspaper story. Contact me by Private message if you think that will work and I will interview you for a story.

  • The most recent forum post is dated Feb. 2012 and from there they go back several years to at least 2009. The way I found them was with a google "site:domain + my-company-name" search so I would think that means they were crawled by google Not using www was how I performed the search.

  • Thanks, I am looking for a legitimate way to send out online press releases that won't break the bank and that will obviously have the added benefit of SEO. So you recommend PR Newswire. I'll check them out. Thanks for the tip.

  • Sftravel- Quality score does carry over in a new campaign so creating a new campaign isn't going to solve your problems. However, if the new more focused campaign has a "tighter" keyword focus on words than the other campaign/adwords group, then it will be worth creating a separate campaign or adwords group. Remember, the more focused you make the adgroup to the ad and landing page, the better your quality score and relevancy will be and the lower your CPC will be. It sounds like creating a new adgroup and keeping the same campaign will work for you. Hope this helps. Thanks Mark

  • Hi Jason, Here are a few articles about this topic that you might like to read: http://searchengineland.com/5-tips-to-get-more-online-customer-reviews-92311 http://www.reviewpro.com/encourage-online-guest-reviews-2313 The advice in these is pretty much common sense, but I do think the suggestions of follow up emails, thank you cards, etc., are good ones. The best thing is when you've got repeat customers who you form a really friendly relationship with...this makes it much easier to ask for a review. For carpet cleaning companies and the like who service a customer a couple of times a year or more, a relationship can be forged which will lead to a genuine review. Also, if you manage to really wow even a one-time customer (if you solve a really tough problem for them, for example) that is a great time to mention how much a review would help you let other know how you can help them. To date, I've never seen anyone come up with some astounding, earth shattering method for this. It tends to be more along the lines of a common sense, communicative process with your satisfied customers.

  • Bill, I agree for the most part if you are saying "free ecommerce templates". FREE ecommerce software is completely different. I just want newbies to know the difference. Also, many people can have a custom design made for $150 to $200 in photoshop. Then go to oDesk.com and have someone in a developing country code and install it for another $150. I have done this many times.

  • I'd try SEMRush - http://www.semrush.com - although they only offer some of the data for free, I'd check it out - sounds like it can help you and would serve as a good comparison to Ahrefs.

  • You are confused. Adwords is text based PPC for paid search. Adsense are PPC display ads generated based on sites that user is visiting. You dont need to remove the adsense code.  These are two distinctly different solutions that you need to be tracking separately within google analytics. You should set up different landing pages on your site to handle adsense clicks as opposed to adwords clicks. This will simplify the process of tracking and reporting and will give you an opportunity to compare the esults between the two campaigns.... Hope this helps. Mark

  • Hi Todd, Thanks for your reply. We have multiple sites in various stages of optimization. I have a variety of vendors optimizing, writing blog entries, key word ranking among other efforts. What needs to be done is the sorting and prioritizing. I need to learn more to qualify my vendors better so each piece of the process is better defined. Going forward, as I better define each piece, I'll get smarter and more proactive. I'll know more so I'll hire better. In the meantime a comprehensive overview, by someone who's more knowledgeable than me, is what I'm after. It seems what I'm running into now are consultants who offer aggregate knowledge and pitches to do the work. What I'm looking for is a detailed breakdown of what needs done in a priority order. While I understand the order can change based on a variety of factors I hope to find someone who can grasp our situation, and with this understanding in mind, show us the most efficient and economical path to success. A fair-minded intelligent cost-conscious consultant/vendor will show up and lead the way. I'm confident of that. When I know more I'll hire people for this site and others I need to manage. That's the gist of it. Thanks again for your response. Karl

  • Hi. Extended Validation = Gives you the green bar in the address-field of the browser. Requires extra manual activation. Some users will notice this and trust your site. Not neccessary for most sites tbh, Other than that: Get one of GeoTrust's certificates. They are quite cheap, and naturally they work fine. RapidSSL is usually enough for most users. All browsers recognize this.

  • I saw it mentioned in another topic and tried it out today. I like the 'numbers' approach they take, and I'm probably going to use their data someday. Their tools are good, but they're a bit light on interpretation and calls to action. This is fine for me, but might be less useful to someone just starting out in SEO/not familiar with the technical aspects of the field (e.g. most small business owners doing self SEO), which is where SEOMoz shines I think.
