Good internal linking
Hello John, Internal linking is fairly important aspect of your SEO strategy, although predominantly from a crawling and accessibility perspective. It also ensures that you do not create a "spider trap" (a scenario where Googlebot gets trapped crawling your website due to cyclical linking patterns) which can cause it to de-index your work. This is an extreme case and the algorithms that guide the process are getting better but it still helps to make your site as open as possible. I will start with some general sources on internal linking: http://moz.com/learn/seo/internal-link - General Overview and Beginners Guide http://moz.com/blog/smarter-internal-linking-whiteboard-friday - Guide to Internal Linking Best Practices (Oldie but a Goodie) http://moz.com/webinars/internal-linking-a-scientific-scalable-approach - Detailed and Lengthy Explanation Start with these 3 resources - each of them contain further sources for future study which will help you with your strategy. There isn't anything particularly difficult about internal link-building, you just have to keep plugging away. Hope this helps and feel free to fire some questions in my direction. Rob

Rank product pages
I would add to Rob's suggestions that you need to make sure you have user generated content on these pages. If you do not add reviews to your pages you will have a very difficult time ranking. You will have to make sure that you have something uniquely valuable to offer your customers, something they can't find on any other site, and that is why user generated content is so important on product pages. You can only rewrite a product description so many ways. Chances are, your static content will not provide anything to a customer they can't find elsewhere. With a low DA in a competitive market, UGC is your best friend. I would also add that it helps to have a video or two on your product pages. Add a video on how the product works or record an in house review of the product. It will really help your rankings and user experience.

Will a blog post about a collection of useful tools and web resources for a specific niche being seen as negative by google for too many links?
All really good answers. Looks like a visual graphical resource guide will be the way to both provide value and no having too many links on the page. thanks guys.

Wouldn't it be great to add a visitor intent field in a keyword study ?
Hello Robert, First of all thanks for the quality of your answer. When i first wrote this question i was thinking of a "real human" reading all the keywords and determining an intent for each of them and not of an algorythm :). I'm actually working on my keyword study with this goal in mind : -> i try to be in my "persona's shoes" while reading each keyword and i ask myself "what's the intent behind this keyword". Then i write a little user story and link it to several keywords. This way of processing makes me feel like a "re-humanisation" of keyword study ; i don't only group the keywords semantically (like a robot could do) but i try to dig and discover what's behind and ie: how to please my visitor.

Improving ranking for a more specific keyword - eg 1 word
Algorithm updates last year made exact keyword matching a thing of the past - I have clients for whom I do content marketing as a means of link-building and my advice is always to produce content which makes sense when you read it. If it sounds like a keyword is being forced into a sentence, chances are it will be reviewed negatively. Link-building is one of those nose-to-the-grindstone jobs that requires dedication, focus and the ability to take a bit of criticism. It also requires a lot of outreach and pounding the pavement with authority sources in your market niche. I like content marketing because it covers most of the bases you want to cover without you sounding too "sales-y". For example, instead of focusing on on-site factors such as your keyword targeting and URL (on-site only involves about 30% of ranking weight), perhaps spend some time creating unique content relevant to your market niche that you think potential customers would be interested in reading/watching. Then take that content and market it to authorities in your market - you might have to spend some time developing relationships since webmasters are bombarded with link requests on a regular basis. It will take some patience and time, but the overall affects are worth it. http://moz.com/blog/category/link-building This link has a ton of resources on up-to-date link building practices that will help you get out on the right track. http://moz.com/blog/local-event-marketing http://moz.com/blog/future-of-link-building http://moz.com/blog/anchor-text-rich-links-without-spam-or-manipulation-whiteboard-friday These 3 in particular might be of interest to you. Hope this helps! Rob

How can I tell where I was penalised?
I personally would start by using the Panguin tool which gives an overlay of your Google Analytics - make sure you set your date back enough to cover the time prior to when you got hit in order to see if you have been hurt by any of the updates. I have been using this tool for several years and would definitely recommend it - I have done in several other Moz Q&As previously. Samuel Scott's response mentions the post by Alan Bleweiss and he mentions this tool in it. Depending on what your analysis uncovers you may find this an interesting read - http://moz.com/blog/ultimate-guide-to-google-penalty-removal Hope this helps!

Are 2 sites in same niche from same company white hat?
I agree with Keri. You already have a site with traction. Improve it. Add pages that compete for new products, new keywords. They will be immediately competitive. Why start a second site with ZERO traction? It can take a few years to get a new site ranking well.

I am launching an international site. what is the best domain strategy
Suggesting subfolders without considering the peculiarities of the site jusrt because it's a "best practice" is not the ideal thing to do. Even if subfolders have sure advantages, their use can be not technically affordable or even good for effectiveness.

Heeeeelp, I'm wanting to build my very first link and don't want to make a mistake. My URL is specialistblastcleaning.co.uk. Any tips?
Hi Tim, For that specific website (http://www.specialistblastcleaning.co.uk/), you can apply any of the following link building tactics: Submit the site to high quality local and niche-specific citation listings and directories (e.g. yelp.co.uk) Find resource pages that list down cleaning companies in UK. If they have broken links, you can use the BLB approach. Pitch 3 to 5 home improvement blogs with high search share (or with high SEPrice - metric used by SEMRush) and ask if you can become a regular content contributor for them. Happy link building!
