How do I not mess up a national seo strategy? All advice appreciated in advance!
Hey Chris The main issue here is going to be authority - you could structure this perfectly and still see no dice with ranking these location / service pages. Factor in no location signals and this could be super difficult. I would look to learn from the sites that already rank well in terms of structure and if the client is gung-ho to do this despite all the caveats then set up a few locations and get some ranking data. You can then at least get an idea where these pages will sit. Remember though - we have no location signals so you are basically ranking these as location pages and all the unique content in the world will likely not get you over the authority hurdle here. Ultimately you have to start small, do some testing and measure as you go. Hope that helps. Marcus

Backlinks from ads on parked domains? Is this possible?
It sounds very low quality so either way I would simply ignore these. If you want to be sure crawl the linking sites in Screaming Frog or some such and look at the external links tab. You can then find the page(s) with the external link. It is likely these were part of a link network and have since dropped and are no longer counted. Either way, even if they are helping (which they are probably not) you don't want to copy a broken, backwards strategy - focus on quality and your link building efforts will have longevity. Hope that helps. Marcus

Google webmaster reports non-existent links between syndicated sites
It looks like the pages that you're referencing in the Webmaster Forums post do have some indexed duplicate content on them. It may be that Google is trying to figure out which version of the page is the canonical version, and then reporting all the duplicates as links back to the page that they deem the "original" page. I don't know why they would report this as a "link" when it clearly isn't a link in the traditional sense, but link reports in Search Console often contain some weird stuff that isn't really links. What's clear is that Google understands that these pages are related, which makes sense since it's the same content, on pages with very similar design - the two subdomains are even using the same Google Analytics account. My assumption would be that the "links" are a byproduct of Google trying to figure out which of these pages are the duplicates and which should be treated as the original. It may be that this is nothing to worry about - if you're happy with the pages' performance, I doubt you will see these "links" coming through anywhere besides Google Search Console. If you do want to keep the client sites more separate, I would recommend separating them out into their own Google Analytics accounts at the very least.

Does >70 character title tag affect a pages ranking in search?
If your page titles are right for your readers then I really would not worry about this one too much. Users > search engines.

Moz Local says Google + is 100% incomplete
Hi Scott! Kristina from Moz's Help Team here. Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble! Here's a short video with more information on how a Google+ page needs to be set up: https://seomoz.wistia.com/medias/izmwe6t66p. And here is a written-list of the criteria for those sources that will enable us to validate your listing: The name, address, and phone number (NAP) listed on the page must be an exact match with the listing in Moz Local. The primary phone number listed must be a local number, rather than a toll-free number. The business must not be listed as a “service area business”. A service area business displays with the street address being hidden, as well as the listing not being surfaced through the Google Places API (which is where we pull the listing details from). The listing must be verified by postcard. As a note, it may take a couple days after the postcard verification process for the listing to be available through the Google Places API. The listing must be completely searchable through Google Maps, with the full NAP listed correctly. If you're still encountering issues after taking a look at those factors, then I'm certainly happy to investigate; I would just need you to shoot our team an email at help@moz.com including the name, address and phone number of the Moz Local listing, as well as the Google+ page for that listing, as you've provided here. I hope this helps! -Kristina

Adding AdWords Remarketing Pixel to "Partner" Domains?
I inquired with AdWords support and heard back that this tactic is okay! "I touched base with our Policies Team... As of now, we have no policy dictating that we can't use the visitors landing on website 1 and retargeting/remarketing those visitors with ads related to website 2."

Does rewriting a URL affect the page authority?
Page Authority is just a marketing metric made by Moz and won't update until they re-run their index, which I believe is still on a ~monthly timeline. Just because Moz says a page temporarily has a PA of 1 doesn't mean Google sees it that way. If you have a good reason to change a URL structure, feel free to do it as long as you have 301s. Do not change your URL structure for small, un-needed reasons, such as cramming a slightly better KW variation in the URL.

New Design on New Ranking Charts
Hello! Thanks for the feedback! The overall goals of the redesign of this page were: support configurable date ranges (you can now see our entire keyword history instead of a fixed 12-week / 12-month chart) make your keyword ranking data clearer with a couple of new charts (the old chart was confusing if you had multiple pages rankings for a KW, and didn't work with configurable date ranges). We have added the Search Visibility to chart to show the overall impact of all of your rankings pages on your keyword performance. We also added the Highest Ranking Position chart as a simplified version of your Keyword Performance. provide some room and scale for some new things we have coming soon (SERP Features, more KW metrics) move to the latest version of KW difficulty move the page onto our new, faster, more reliable KW rankings platform (this is more of an internal Moz goal, but I thought I would include it on this list. Plus you will see the benefits through faster pages and more reliable / timely rankings data) I hear what you are saying - let me address your concerns in turn: extra whitespace on the page - I agree this looks a little strange right now, and sorry it stopped all the data you care about fitting on the screen (though if you use Chrome, the page scales really well with Ctrl +/-, I sometimes use that to fit more in a screenshot). We have left a little extra space for some new things we have coming up, so that is why it feels a little weird now. Sorry about this in the meantime! a writeup on the changes - no there is not, but this is a great idea, and I am going to turn this response into a post and publish it - thank you for prompting that Moz Analytics vs Moz Pro - Moz Pro is the name of the overall subscription product, we heard some customers were confused by the internal tool names so we are trying to simplify things a little by stopping using some names Hope this helps! I am on jon@moz.com if you wanted to chat over email - happy to help in any way I can!

Better converting facebook
If it's the bounce rate and not the website or landing page visits, then it's your content. You need to rewrite or reword your content so it's more engaging and interesting. Structure it so the most important, interesting information is in the first paragraph, but leaving them wanting more. You should also be making sure that each one of your Facebook posts accurately describes what's on the page. If you feel like you have to jazz up the description on Facebook, chances are the copy itself won't keep anyone's attention.

Is it better to have micro-sites with good content or redirect domains?
Hi Chloe, I agree with Tim: concentrate on producing awesome content for the main site. Just redirect the other domains to your main site. Greets, Bas

Website Rankings
You are in a highly competitive market and will be battling against sites that have huge marketing budgets so you need to look at much more than what is on your page. You are going to have to look at trust and authority and build those by getting some amazing links. Between content, links and UX, I couldn't say that you need to do more of one than another - each play a vial role in how Google sees your site. I would also pay attention on click through rate (CTR) because if people are hitting a page and then leaving again, this will be harmful. Spend some time looking at your site metrics but also look at where your visitors are coming from. Are they coming from Ireland? UK? Internationally? Is the .ie working against you? There are so many questions that should be looked at, but I hope this gives you a few pointers. -Andy

Website page name
You are absolutely correct Navinda, I would suggest you use this convention for all of your site pages and structure. not only is it accurate and good for google, but it is also useful for those glancing at the url when doing searches or landing on a page. Just make sure your content now matches the relevancy of the section/page your users will now find them selves on and you will be onto a winner. I, like L Siverson and Google respectively, would also suggest the use of dashes. /sectional-garage-doors/ /full-panel-garage-doors/ /blog/the-difference-between-full-panel-and-sectional-garage-doors/ /contact-us/ etc You get the gist

Internal web page name
Best practice with URL's at all time, is to keep them short and to the point. If this page is about sectional garage doors, call it so, but don't expect to get anything from it in terms of a boost. You get a page that makes sense, and that is most important. -Andy

SEO impact when micro site are hosted on third party url
Hi Kjersti, Ok, so: Google likes unique content that is original and has added value. This content is probably the same for all installers. Perhaps they have placed to logo of the installer in the top. Copying it to your domain doesn't make it different from all the other installer-pages on the original domain. If that is the case, i would leave it at that domain. It has no positive effect on your client's site. What you can do is write great articles on the domain of your client. Take the pages from the supplier as an example and write articles that are much better. More added value, easier to read AND: fun or exciting to read. That way, you produce original content that visitors will want to read. Word for word. Perhaps they will even share it on their social media accounts. This way: you make this site stronger and will almost certainly improve the position in the SERP's. If people are actually starting to share these articles in social media, you will also improve the local visibility of your client. Greets, Bas
