See today's Whiteboard Friday... Rand talks about cross-domain canonical with examples.

I liked that strategy, use it for a year to get leverage and then just let it expires. By this and the other posts here looks like that getting listed in the directory isnt really worth for me at the moment. Thanks for the opnion guys

Click on the more link on the profile page, report a problem, and select "Place has another listing." then include a link to both profiles. Luckily your reviews will probably not "get lost" as they are not on Google's site, otherwise you might lose those.The only other reason, beyond the conflicting zip code, could be that there is another account that had claimed it prior. Word of caution, don't move too quickly or too anxiously with Google places. They scare easy. Hi, All of its SEOMOZ metrics would indicate a positive SEO response. It was cached today, which is also a positive sign. It seems to have general value and information (not just a few words about the category in broken english) Very little PPC, it did not appear to have any Paid home page links. The information is accurate. Not sure if it will have that huge of an SEO response, as no anchor text is available and the return query URL string is very overly dynamic and alot of the inner pages were not cached and had low metrics. $300 is a gamble, probably Vegas odds Have Fun!

Thank you so much for your input! I hope this evolves into more conversation - I think it could be helpful! I'm also identifying what traffic is coming from YouTube, which is a bit easier due to the stats and info available at YouTube, but the information just doesn't seem to be as accessible from the location pages. Recently I just did a domain change of a company website, did a 301 redirect for each page and after 2 months everything were fine and keeping the same position in SERP it previously had (some even gained rank) The only thing is, the site was quite small, with around 15 links, so was a easy job to do.

What is the keyword they are trying to rank for?  A brief look at their site shows me that there really isn't much content and the title tags aren't optimized.  They mostly all start with "Fine Lets Ltd" which I'm guessing is not the keyword they are trying to rank for. So, this could be good news because there are lots of things that could be done to help them rank better.  I'd be more concered if the site looked amazingly optimized and it was still ranking poorly.

Hi Lyn, To help optimize the latter Google Places listing linked above, definitely fill out the focused location page more. Adding photos and video, as well as positive user reviews will help give listing weight when searching. Also, be sure the text used for your location listing also reflects the keyword focus you have on the website, so the listing will show up in searches relevant to the keywords already optimized.

I think I found it. I'm seeing multiple meta robots entries on pages, including meta name='robots' content='noindex,nofollow'. I don't think you mean this to be intentional? Linkscape is updated approx once every 30 days, but if there are issues with the index (which occasionally happens) it can be a couple of months behind, which would explain the delay. Has your link shown up yet?

Just the basic PageRank logic, nothing too fancy. I purposely didn't want to drill into quality and nature of each individual inbound link. The element that did bother me in that decision was whether the IBL's were unique domain or c-block. Other than that what wins is the fact that there are fewer outgoing links on the page I'm getting link from. I assumed this was external outgoing backlinks (not counting internal links, nav, footer etc).
