  • I think the way you have your tags set is perfect. While having a robots=noindex tag allows google to read the page and pass pagerank, there's no point listing them in search results as they actually don't offer any valuable content; they link to, but they don't have it. That said, google goes over your tag pages passing pagerank, which ultimately get more juice to your articles. Sometimes, within a post, you can link to a tag page within the content, so users can read more about certain topics and you are passing more juice to that tag page, although not being indexed, that tag page passes pagerank back to the articles. The noindex has nothing (almost) to do with pagerank, it could be a tremendously useful page (you can even earn links to it from external sources), but they are only valuable to users reading your content and interested in a particular "subject" you mention within the post/context.

  • Hi As an interesting free tool have a look at Ubersuggest which pulls keyword searches from Google Suggest. KeywordEye seems to be talked about a fair bit in my circles recently, but I haven't used it before. It's a subscription tool. Market Samurai is a download and install, pay once tool that's been popular but I don't hear it talked about so much these days. I'm sure others will suggest some worth looking at. Peter

  • Agreed. Also: PPC is often used as a substitute for an overall SEO/Marketing strategy...instead of a component of an overall strategy. It's best to turn down potential clients who think PPC can do it all, IMHO and experience.

  • Had you received an unnatural links warning at all? Usually people suggest not using the Disavow Tool unless you've received that warning. What does your link profile look like? And have you worked on gaining more relevant links and social signals in the time being? If it was an algorithmic penalty in July then it was possibly Panda related but, as I don't have any more information to go on, that's just speculation. Assuming it was Panda then your main issue was likely thin content not links. How does your site look concerning duplicate content, spammy content, and thin pages?

  • Is the perceived authority of the old-time TLDs something worth investing in? Or will this fizzle away over time as the new gTLDs flood the market? .com mainly, but also .org (and in some cases .net) have survived the test of time in terms of authority/brand/image. Many other TLDs were introduced prior to .PRO and the above are still highly sought after. In terms of financials, as in "The .org will probably end up being about 10x the price of the .pro." from an SEO standpoint its a fair game, so if you can invest the savings from a .pro (assuming significant if you are paying high bucks for a .org that you are buying) you can use that for SEO. Hope this helps

  • I believe that google would consider these to be "cookie cutter pages".  That is when you have a standard page and several words or phrases are swapped in and according to the product. Google started targeting these pages  several years ago and they are getting better and better at identifying them. Their response to these types of pages can be.... -- filter most of them from the search results, this only hit the cookie cutter pages, but if you had lots of these pages it was a waste of the page rank that went into them that could have been used to support rankings on other parts of your site. -- recently these are starting to result in a panda problem which can tank the rankings across your site When you are offering these types of products the time required to write unique descriptions can pay off big time.   My approach is to make one page for several closely related items, offering all of them on a single page.  That makes a rich page instead of multiple near-duplicate pages.

  • I was just "offered" is a good word, a custom domain by Google last week. At first I thought great let me choose my username that I like (+vmialik) and use for things like Facebook, etc. to keep the consistency.  But Miriam and Mike Blumenthal are right when they say Google did not give me an option to customize my domain.  But having a full name as a custom url at least for my name works well. For businesses and organizations, I understand its a different story, with DBA's etc. Maybe in the future ... who knows. Hope this helps

  • With the army of new TLD's coming out. We will have to see how much weight (or lack of) Google will place on them. But from previous actions, the top TLDs .com/net/org will carry more weight than usual in terms of Exact or partial match domain.
