Do hyphenated searches impact SEO?
Thanks, Rob. I did notice the search volumes are the same. And it is true that the searches are very close. With Semantic update this may become even closer as they are the same in reality. It crossed my mind though that there may be a benefit of choosing 'i phone' over 'i-phone' as people are less likely to type in a hyphen rather than not, especially on mobile. Every little helps.

This is a clear-cut canonical issue, right?
yeah, I think it's best to suggest they rewrite their blogs before re-distributing now.

Moz says my analytics link is broken
Hello James, There might be a delay between us and Google, so one way to alleviate that is to refresh that connection: Head to your campaign settings page on your overview page: http://screencast.com/t/je3mv5DkPbU Disconnect your Google Analytics connection: http://screencast.com/t/59NDMB0Ov Go back to your settings page and click on "connect account." Please make sure you log into the correct GA account. Hurray! This should let you grab the most current traffic data! I hope that helps, let me know if you have questions!

International SEO Subfolders / user journey etc
Thanks for your comments but im looking directly into subfolder option (since TLD not an option and sub-domain considered bad practice from what i can gather after many days research on Moz etc As a result this is what ill issue to a clients development team in this circumstance is as follows for where sites preferred structure is sub-folders/directories: Implement IP sniffing on the home page ONLY Then have Sub-Folders named after the official country abbreviations which will create a better user experience than both country and language i.e. domain.com/us/ as opposed to domain.com/en-us/ or domain.com/en-gb/ etc etc. This way it will only manipulate the homepage crawling and not site-wide indexing issues. 3) Target these folders to the correct countries in Google’s and Bing’s Webmasters Tools. Use the official country and language codes in the Hreflang mark-up as per point 4. Set up site maps for each subfolder and rel="alternate" hreflang= according to Google guidelines. Here's a great tool to help with correct implementation: http://www.themediaflow.com/resources/tools/href-lang-tool/ Specify the content language/country by adding the 'country-language' meta-tags in the html head 6) Link between each country/language version in a crawl-able and visible manner (for SE and Users) 7) Create individual profiles in GWT & Bing Webmaster Tools for each country/language sub-folder and geo-target accordingly Create individual profiles within GAnalytics for each country/language version and configure to track internal activity between different versions 9) Localise content so has US currency, contact details, spelling etc 10) Other localisation techniques ( such as marking up contact details with schema places code) Note RE: HrefLang & Canonicalisation: An extra advantage of using hreflang is that it will provide a degree of canonicalisation. Should canonical tag be employed in the future never so across language versions if site expand into non English versions. More info here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igbrm1z_7Hk

Google Xml Sitemaps
Hi Sebastian,If you're willing to share the URL, we may be able to troubleshoot. No worries if you can't or want to keep it private, but otherwise it may be hard to diagnose without actually looking at the site/URLs. Cheers

Where to download SERP report
Hello and welcome! You will need to log into your moz analytics (top right over there). Then select your campaign from the drop down menu in the top right corner. You should then see the dashboard. There is lots of cool data there but what you want to look at is the Search tab specifically "Keyword rankings" Here you can see your position in the SERP. There are a few other cool options here too which are : Overview Rankings Performance Competition Opportunities And if you wanted to in the top right you can create a neat report to share the data if you want. Hope that helps.

Canonical URLs being ignored?
I've usually seen it in cases like what Istvan mentioned - somehow, another signal comes into play. Maybe it's new links to the non-canonical URLs, maybe some internal pages with old links get crawled, maybe a new 301 or canonical comes into play that conflicts with the existing canonical. If they're being ignore now, then it's possible you're using the canonical tag as a band-aid, for lack of a better term, and the underlying problem that caused the duplicates is still in play. If Google's really being indecisive, you may want to take a closer look at that underlying problem and not just rely on canonicals. Generally, the tag is pretty strong, but Google does get it wrong from time to time. Sorry, it's hard to advise based on generalities. The devil is in the details on these situations, I find.

Blogger and 301
Hi Denis I'm afraid this isn't possible. Therefore, if you plan on keeping both, make sure the blogspot has unique content from your main website and offers good value for people who come across it. You can redirect domain > blogspot, however.

Facebook Likes, Google +1s tactic - is this a good idea
If people are clicking 'like' just for a discount rather than because they like what you are posting on FB they may not hang around. It's very easy for them to unlike once they have got the discount and they probably will if your posts are not good. Better to invest in writing great FB content and adding great pics then people will follow because they want to and these people will be worth more to you then any that click for money. They can even turn out to be brand advocates.

Given the new image mismatch penalty, is watermarking considered "cloaking"?
What I can tell your from the point of a big webshop is that we had to remove all our watermarks (it was just our logo for protection against copyright infringements through our competititors) within 3 business days to avoid to be banned from Google Shopping. So this issue shows the direction Google moves on regarding the image search... If, what you describe, is just the first step, then this will or even is the next one. I would avoid this kind of watermarks as well...

Issues with centrally hosting your own affiliate links?
All the methods you mention are valid as long as you nofollow them. And if having one domain to redirect simplifies your work, then go for it. Remember to always nofollow those links.

Post CMS-Switch Actions
Thank you, Federico. The site does look nicer, more professional than before. The traffic is lower now so the conversions are low as well. However, I am optimistic that this is the right move for the long term.

Google PLA: How to deal with product options
Well this is a very interesting post. I had this issue before and the way I sorted it was to make sure that each product variation was updated individually to Google Merchant centre (with a custom label for the Product_Group_Id - so I can group them by their parent product.) with its own link which includes the preselected options. Works really fine for Magento 2 the only problem I came across is that this will only work on drop down options and not for the text swatch. I hope this helps a bit!

Should I remove spaces from my brand name?
What I do for situations like that (I would assume the short term goal would be to start showing up for that brand when you search for it) - I'd decide if it's really possible to get on that search term quickly. For the example "Crazy Man" I would deem it to be a longer term project since it's very general and even a kid will type that in. I would go for the "no-space" version for this one For a brand term like "Cheese Media" I would definitely start with the space since nobody really searches for something like that and you'd easily get that "brand" Either way, during the course of your brand name building process (unlinked mentions, links, citations) - I would throw in the alternate version for a certain % of the time. Long term, you'd see your brand to start ranking for that as well. Personally i prefer making up unique names when im starting a new business, it makes the branding/seo part easier lol Hope I helped you out somehow

Display advertising - targetting
Without going into an insane amount of detail, if you have the budget, I'd try a little bit of everything. For you, I would suggest: Retargeting: Display ads to people who have been to your site, but didn't convert. Placement targeting: Use Google ad planner, or just surf the web to find sites that are relevant to your demographic and show ads. Interest category targeting: I'd use this if there are relevant categories for you to target. If they're too broad, cross it with some topic or keyword targeting. Keyword targeting is the oldest, and doesn't work as well as it used to for us. You could use this to explore and find new placements, then add them to your placement targeting campaign. Topic targeting is bad on its own in my experience. Demographics is great, but will reduce volume a lot. If it's already a weight loss site you're putting your ad on, there's probably no need to apply it here. A lot of people reside in the "Unknown" categories for Gender and Age. If you're an existing Adwords customer and have reps, you can get into their search companion marketing beta. We've been seeing great results from this. For example, when someone searches for "weight loss", and clicks through to a page with Google ads, you can now target them on the display network. Remember that you can apply remarketing lists and demographics to search as well as display! And also be wary of mobile if that's not great for you. Now with enhanced campaigns, you're automatically opted into mobile... I've had different experiences than Dana, I've had by far the most success with Adwords, little success with Facebook, and no success with StumbleUpon. Twitter is also another viable option, and they have their own set of targeting options (and you have to run a Twitter account already). LinkedIn doesn't sound right for this. YouTube could be good too, although the CPCs there tend to be pretty high. I would think Facebook should be good for you... you can target to women of a certain age who like other weight loss products.
