Alot of the online community weren't sure if it was an unpdate - it was a sneaky one if it was. Either way im continuing to provide good original content 4 times a day but am also undoing and cleaning alot of careless over optimization mistakes such as too many similar <alt tags="">mor no following of outbound links, deleting signatures inks in forums (even though theyre totally legitimate) an adding some speed. Having said all that im stumped as to why i got penalised. Im an arts site, I show paintings and photographs. There are no adverts. My bounce rate is negligible, I have a 3.5 pages/visitor page view, i dont have a backlink strategy, my content is orginal, etc, etc.....very frustrating... </alt> Worst thing about this is that I still dont know why it happened so I can't get to the root of the problem. I hope you're right and things get better. Is there any average length of time before things get back to normal if you've improved things? Any helpful, solid, uplifting advice is welcome

We received the manual penalty at the same time Penguin 2.0 was released (Some point around May 22nd) We've got some really impressive content marketing pieces in place for the next few months so hopefully the value we'll gain through that will replace the links that were removed Thanks again

Agreed with everything said here. The default Media uploader for Wordpress is the best to use unless there's something special about what you're trying to do with the images. As Bradley said, optimizing images is important. http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/ is a popular plugin that will let you do this as you upload images.

For reference, here is the question: Thank you for helping me in this. I now have the clarity in making the right recommendation to my client.  However we are now left with 2 options: Create unique design/Content for the new **brandnamebianalytics.com **and work on optimization from scratch. Redirect **brandnamebianalytics.com to brandname.co.in or vice versa. **The reason we've considered this option is because brandname.co.in is rich in content and drawing around 3000 visitors traffic per month and we cannot afford to lose the reputation the (co.in) site has earned till date. I appreciate the time you've taken in replying to my query and I look forward to your thoughts/recommendations in the above mentioned issue. Redirecting to .co.in will keep the domain focused to the Indian market, and if I read right, you want to focus on the US market as well. So I'd recommend designing and developing new content for brandnamebianalytics.com and optimize from scratch. Hope that helps!

Hi much appreciated for the input.... so i normally use Yoast SEO plugin with Clicky ... but though i'd try MOZ .... is there a reason you'd suggest the above? is MOZ like using a hammer to crack a walnut?

Hi Pete! Without knowing quite a bit more, I'm going to have to agree with Peter. I took a look at your account and the site, and I'm not seeing rel="canonical" anywhere on the site. If that is how your Web company initially solved the issue, it looks like it's since been removed. I took a look at the crawl diagnostics CSV, and it looks like a lot of the issue is due to the ecommerce platform itself. This may be difficult to fix, but it also should be extremely harmful. In a lot of cases, though, it looks like there are very minor variations on the same URLs causing them to be picked up as duplicates—for example, a version of a URL with one capital letter is showing up as a duplicate version of the same URL without a capital letter. Rel="canonical" should definitely help with that. Matt

Sarah, I have been using this tool: www.spyfu.com , specifically their recon files application to do competitive key word research.  Once I extract key words form this report I use their Keyword smart search tool. Hope this helps, Ron
