I have a website having products out of stock. Right now they are not listed on the website but working with 200 status code and they are indexed in Google as well.

I need to understand if they affect my website? is it negative for SEO? what would be the best way to handle out of stock products?

what if they are out of stock for a long time and discontinue for future? how search engine treat those products? are they consider as hidden links as they are not accessible from website as google says every page should link from atleast one static page.

I've been working with a client’s website for about a year now. They were hit with the original Panda/ Penguin update because of some spammy links. We have analysed and disavow sapmmy links edit anchor tag and landing pages. We've made a decent climb back while working on it keywords ranking was improved some of them are from out of 500 to top 30, but not a full recovery. There are some weird things happening that I would love some insight into.

1. Ranking for keywords are again dropping and traffic is gone:

I notice keyword ranking is dropping and some of the keywords which are on 2 and 3 page, now on 9^th page. And also traffic is down.

Any help would be appreciated!

Moving to HTTPS on an existing website involves setting up 301 re directs on all pages. Each page should re-direct when accessed directly to it's relevant page in HTTPS only and not any other page.

Not sure about some bits of your question.."I brought an expired domain and wondering if moving to HTTPS will affects the previous backlinks?"...

If a domain has expired already and assuming it was offline, then more than likely all link juice would have dissappeared anyway. or did you meant something else?

Embedding reviews is not a problem, as long as you ensure it doesn't get indexed by search engines. Best way to achieve that is to create a separate script which is called in an iframe. This script is the one where you make calls for the reviews from google + or any other source that you may wish to use, and ensure this script is include in your robots.txt as a file which is not be crawled.

Thanks for replying Peter, appreciate it. You are right when you ask about how the URL structure connects to the manual penalty...I can resonate your thoughts, but I am not the only decision maker and so have to live with it.

Suppose we manage to come out with exact same urls as of existing pages, (hypothetically) then there's no danger at all? Also, will a change in url have an impact on conversions from PPC campaign in anyway? AdWords is the catch here, I you know what I am implying. Interesting to know your thoughts on this Peter...thanking you again.

Belated thanks Peter, though I marked your answer as 'good' the next day of your answering my question. It was greatly helpful. Further to it, I would like to know if we have the option of keeping the very same URLs (at least the most essential ones if not all) and not get into nitty-gritty of 301, canonicals and the other technical nuances? Or is it that CMS change will anyhow force me into digging deeper (making me SEO wise in the process)?

In short, is 301 a necessary evil or are there way around it? If yes then what are the requisites for it? Thanks in advance for all help/suggestions
