Discuss the impact of growing social media presence and its relationship with other digital strategies.

  • Hi John, A ticketing website seems like an ideal niche to generate some great content directly from your customers. Offer them the ability to rate past shows/events, share what they are going to, discuss artists/sporting teams etc. This will not only deliver A LOT of unique, relevant content to your site, it will encourage users to become part of the 'Ticket Trail Community'. This will make the site rank better, and it will become more 'sticky' - in that users will want to regularly visit to interact with others with similar tastes. A win win in my eyes. Thanks, Brad

  • As far as I know it does NOT affect SEO. It does increase the likelyhood of someone linking to you though. "IF" you want to know if this is worth it, look at your Google Analytics and see if people are converting on your website. Measure your FB and Twitter visits and assign a value to it. My point here is not to focus on "will Likes and Tweets increase rankings".  My point is "Do those Likes and Tweets turn into conversions". Here is a secret of mine. Social Media does land me business, but not as much as Google Adwords. Adwords KILLS social media in my clients' industries. My clients only care about more money in the bank, not about FB Likes and Tweets. LEARN how to use GA.

  • Thanks for both of your suggestions.  G+ seems so obvious I'm embarrassed I neglected it. Digg is something I've heard about before, and again more recently since getting into SEO, but don't know much about. I'll definitely look into it. Thanks for the quick responses.

  • HAHA Yeah... Thats the problem with the fiverr gigs, you cant actually tell their methods properly. One way to check is to have a look at the profiles who +1 your page and see if they are real. If you can notice that they are fake then you can bet your bottom dollar that big G can too. Nice test though, I like it!

  • Hi Tommy, In fact, I'm in a B2B context, Facebook, Twitter and Google+ aren't enough used by my customers in their B2B life. In their B2B life, they uses social websites like LinkedIn or Viadeo. My SEO question is more for them. Thanks

  • No problem Garen - I would definitely always go with your gut instinct on this sort of thing - I have and it has always served me well. Establishing those relationships will pay off and best of all they are going to keep paying off - plus I think building relationships is more about time than money. The other advantage of building a relationship with authorities in your niche is that the relationship is often reciprocal and you can help and learn from each other as well as gaining retweets, links. etc.

  • I agree with Bevelwide, but as well as checking the authority scores I'd determine which page best appeals to your target audience, and which page they're more likely to visit!

  • My guess is that these brands are looking at it more from a perspective of getting people to follow their +1 accounts so they can use them as a promotional tool, more than looking at it from an SEO perspective, but I could be wrong.

  • We have been following this closely.  Facebook has changed the calculation of check ins.....they say it is to make sure that they have a better represenation of how many people actually went to a location. You cna get some of the detail from the facebook studio blog that I have pasted below..... Essentially they are saying that when users check in to a place multiple times in a 12 hour period, it will only count as one check in. (The old model was you could get multiple check ins added to the page total for each check in.) Same is true if you upload a bunch of photos....only one credit. If you check into a place and upload a photo and then you tag several friends in conjunction with the location, then you will be counted as yourself and each tagged friend.... Hope this gives you clarity... Here is the link...... http://facebook-studio.com/news/item/a-clear-view-of-how-people-are-visiting-your-business

  • Hey Mozzerenos, Our Blogscape tool is going to have intermittent outages. There is no ETA when this will be fixed, because we are using the data to develop a more robust tool set. For now there will be outages and data issues for the stand alone tool, but we think it is worth it. When you see the future blog/freshscape incarnations, we hope you will too. Our apologies for the inconvenience.  For now you can monitor your social media with our Social Analytics in our web app. Check out more info here: http://www.seomoz.org/help/social-analytics

  • One way to see the differences is to use a free tool like http://sharedcount.com/ it shows you Facebook likes, shares and comments which are all different items.

  • I tend to agree with Valery - it depends a lot on the audience and your engagement. If you're active on a site and have a strong profile, then auto-posting your new content often makes sense. If you're just submitting content to 100s of social bookmarking sites, with no real profile and very low authority, you're not going to accomplish much. Google will likely just ignore it, for the most part.
