Every so often SEO feels like a game of snakes & ladders. One minute your rankings go up and then then within the click of a mouse they drop back down. Like a Greek play you begin to feel our mortal lives as SEO pundits is controlled by the Google Gods.
A case in point is illustrated here in this graph:
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/lincoln-drop_zpseeb04690.jpg
Now if i want to explain why the rapid dip has occured for target term "Lincoln Solicitors" here's is what i'd do:
1. Go to webmaster tools and check for crawl errors
2. See if a Google algo change has changed the rules of engagment
3. Check another site administrator hasnt tinkered with the original layout
But i wonder what process do other SEO practitioners follow to explain to a disgruntled client - "Why have my rankings that i pay you to look after nose dived?"
Any insights welcome:-)
Thank you so much for this
But may i ask whats "Additional citation building" mean?
Thank you, good answer & yes i'll get the smiley icon scratched

Ive noticed website www.davidclick.com optimised for "York wedding photographer" has been squeezed off page 1 by local listings as illustrated here:http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/squeezed-out-by-local-listings_zpsd506cd71.jpg
But i do have a local listing and as good as any of the others that have squeezed the site out. So my question is please:
"Why has davidclick.com been pushed out of page 1 by a raft of local listings despite this site having a reasonably well optimised local site"?
Any insights welcome:)

David

On this site http://www.collegeofphlebology.com/ therre are multiple banners pointing to 3rd party sites illustrated here http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/banner-links-to-other-sites.jpg so my question is please:
1. What affect if any will these banners loose SEO juice (Love that pharse not)
2. If they are detrimental will adding nofollow links resolve the problem
or... is linking out no problem in terms of loosing authority.

Ok after 20 mins or clicking around https://followerwonk.com/ I couldnt find any way of measuring sentiment tracking. For example i wanted to know how many users where mentioning @PhilpottsLtd but all i could get was a salvo of follow data. Whilst I know this is of some use sentiment tracking i.e being able to measure users dissing or loving your brand would be more usefull.
So my question is please..."In follerwonk how can you measure whats being said about a brand"

Thank you for all your replies this was bugging me but the pain of not knowing has vanished like the morning mist as the warming glow of sunshine illumunates truth
Bonjourno from Wetherby UK...
Ive used a package called screamong frog to diagnose canonical errors but can anyone tell me what this means? http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/understand-occurances-canonical.jpg
Thanks in advance.

Having spoke to oiur internal helpdesk (Who I trust & do know what theyre talking about) theyve taken a look at:
http://www.goldsboroughestates.co.uk/footer-links/left/right-to-manage/
http://www.goldsboroughestates.co.uk/how-we-care-for-you/right-to-manage/
http://www.goldsboroughestates.co.uk/buying-a-home/right-to-manage/
http://www.goldsboroughestates.co.uk/what-our-customers-say/right-to-manage/
and I'm afraid they have a different perspective which is they see no canonical problem
Hey ho think I'll just set my head on fire then maybe things will be more clearer

With brands all clamouring to get a stake in Facebook I wonder how many people actually search for brands on facebook. For example www.evian.com promote their facebook page on their bottles but how could you work out how many searches are entered in the facebook search box for evian as illustrated here:http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/facebook-search-volumes.jpg
So my question is please: "How do you work out search volumes for search entries via facebook"?
Thanks in advance

Whilst there is a stack of tools out there capable of measuring inbound links to a site i need a tool that can target a specific page and inform me about the origin & volume. Put another way i need to know what tool could tell me how many links this page is getting:http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/office-to-let-leeds/
Thanks in advance,

Ive hit a roadbloack in my attempts to get a target term onto page one, below is a url pointing to a graph illustrting the situation. The target term is on the graph (I'm reluctant to stick it in here incase this page comes up)
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/glass-ceiling-office-to-let.jpg
This is what Ive done to date for page -
http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/office-to-let-leeds/
1. Ensured the Markup follows SEO best parctice
2. Internally linked to the page via a scrolling footer
3. Shortened the URL
4. Requested the Social media efforts points links to the page
5. Requested additional content
But i wonder... Is the reason for hitting a glass ceiling now down to lack of content ie just one page or is there a deeper issue of an indexing road block?
Any insights welcome
Brill answers guys thanks

Buon Giorno from wetherby
Ok a week or so ago i went thhrough the hoops of seeting up a Google+ authorship link with the hope my beautifull & click worthy face would appear in the serps. But after following the following steps:
1. Link from www.davidclick.com to https://plus.google.com/u/0/114149997094688010790 using rel author e.g.:
[https://plus.google.com/u/0/114149997094688010790](<a href=)" target="_blank">Find me on Google+
2 Link back from Google plus by pointing back to www.davidclick.com in the Google+ contributor section
Nothing has happened ie no picture in my SERP listing, click here for illustration:
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/authorship-tested-but-no-imagecopy.jpg
So my question is please..."Have i done anything wrong? I put the code in place i think about two weeks ago"
Any insights welcome
