Sorry for the delay, I just got in touch with him about posting it.

A friend of mine signed up for Hubspot, but he's really sure what he got himself into. Now, all his blog posts are: info.site.com but hosted through Hubpsot he believes. His current SEO agencies flipped out about how this would cause all sorts of problems, and I really don't know if it will or not. I talked to a couple different people at Hubspot, but...I didn't get the impression I was getting the "truth, whole truth and nothing but." So, if you have a moment, I would greatly appreciate it if you could clear up the following questions for me:
1. Is the way Hubspot hosts his blog an issue? Will he get backlinks to his site or will they all go to Hubspot, kind of like what happens if you create a youtube video as opposed to hosting it yourself?
2. Once you invest time and content into your Hubspot blog, can you move the blog easily to your own subdomain? If you can move it, will you lose all the links, traffic etc you may have gained?
3. Anything else I'm missing, you'd like to share?
****Here are the URLS: http://thekinigroup.com/ AND http://info.thekinigroup.com/blog
Incredibly grateful,
Ruben
Hi Alex,
I'm not really sure if we use a protocol-less linking pattern or not. I don't see http:// in any of our urls, so if that's the criteria I'm guessing we don't? I included a screenshot of one of our URLs. Would you mind telling me if it's clear from the image whether we do or do not?
Thanks for your response. I really appreciate your time and input.
Best,
Ruben
After reading Cyrus' article: http://moz.com/blog/seo-tips-https-ssl, I am now completely confused about what adding SSL could do to our site. Bluehost, our hosting provider, says if we get their SSL, they just add it to our site and it's up in a few hours: no problem whatsoever. If that's true, that'd be fantastic...however, if that's true, there wouldn't need to be like 10 things you're supposed to do (according to Cyrus' article) to ensure your rankings after the switch.
Can someone clarify this for me?
Thanks,
Ruben
"If you do plan to engage in a lot of deceptive practices, though, it might be nice to not have these pages cached, so nobody can look back at your older privacy policy (i.e. through the Way Back Machine)."
I laughed at that part, but always good to know just in case.
Thanks Jeff!
Ruben
Hi Everyone,
Two questions, first: should you allow google to index your privacy policy? Second: for a service based site (not e-commerce, not selling anything) should you put the policy in the footer so it's site wide or just on the "contact us" form page?
Best,
Ruben
It is vague, but thanks for taking a stab at anyway. I don't really know all that much about it, so I'm still gathering intel myself.
There's a new industry specific website that looks decent. It's clean and nothing spammy. However, it's so new it's DA is under 10. Is it worth pursuing a link from a site like this? On one hand, there's nothing spammy and it is industry specific. On the other...it's just DA is so terrible (worse than any of our other links), I don't want it to hurt us.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I appreciate it!
Thanks, EGOL. I really appreciate the thorough outline, and I'm glad to know I'm not the only scatterbrain out there trying to manage everything at the same time.
Does anyone have a good content calendar/organizer/software/etc to help plan delivering and pushing out content? I haven't ever used anything other than an actual calendar, and that doesn't seem to help all that much. Is there anything better out there?
Any suggestions would be fantastic!
Much appreciated,
Ruben
Just so we all understand, by "section based approach," are you talking about parallax? Or something else?
Well, I would add the conversion rate optimization does not necessarily have to mean "get the user to buy something." It could be to make a phone call, signup for a newsletter, etc. So, it really is about choosing something you want a user to do, implementing a strategy to get the user to do that...then seeing what percentage of users actually do...then improving it as best you can (most likely through A/B testing).
Website optimization...I don't think it has a standard definition. Monica said "umbrella term for SEO and CRO" and I guess that works, but I've heard it relate to a number of other aspects like site speed and social media plugins. I view it more as a buzzword for marketing companies to sell their "all-in-one" campaign packages than something with a specific definition.
Best,
Ruben
