Hubspot Dangers?

A friend of mine signed up for Hubspot, but he's really sure what he got himself into. Now, all his blog posts are: info.site.com but hosted through Hubpsot he believes. His current SEO agencies flipped out about how this would cause all sorts of problems, and I really don't know if it will or not. I talked to a couple different people at Hubspot, but...I didn't get the impression I was getting the "truth, whole truth and nothing but." So, if you have a moment, I would greatly appreciate it if you could clear up the following questions for me:

1. Is the way Hubspot hosts his blog an issue? Will he get backlinks to his site or will they all go to Hubspot, kind of like what happens if you create a youtube video as opposed to hosting it yourself?

2. Once you invest time and content into your Hubspot blog, can you move the blog easily to your own subdomain? If you can move it, will you lose all the links, traffic etc you may have gained?

3. Anything else I'm missing, you'd like to share?

Hello Ruben,

That isn't on "Hubspot's site" but on your friend's subdomain. Yes, Huspot is doing the "hosting" but there isn't anything inherently wrong with that, just as there isn't anything wrong with TW Telecom hosting the main site.

When someone links to content on that subdomain it will contribute to the Top-Level-Domain (TLD) authority of the site, and it is a point of some controversy as to how much of that pagerank will pass on to the primary domain.

However, you can pass on pagerank in many ways. You could interlink, use rel canonical tags, redirect old URLs once a campaign is finished... More importantly, HubSpot is more about getting the right content in front of the right audience and building up an email list (or converting) than it is about "link building".

We use Hubspot on our site and it has presented zero problems from an SEO perspective.

Ruben I wanted to mention also that Hubspot can be set up as a Wordpress Plugin so you're not creating a new subdomain at all, but publishing content on your existing domain if it's on Wordpress. I'm not sure if that is possible with other content management systems, but it's worth a question to support. This is how we use Hubspot on our site, www.GoInflow.com, which is on Wordpress.
