Hi Miriam,

Thanks as always! You were on the right track. The two businesses that we own are completely separate (law firm and a title company). I eventually found out how to add officially add suites to our office building, so we should be good for now. Oddly enough, in Florida (or at least, in this county) it's not done through the post office (which is why I was so puzzled). You have to go through the "Geographical Information Services" department to get the forms...no, I never heard of it either.

Second, why can't you just use both landing pages? Use the map one for paid ads, since they're going to show regardless, and built the content on the other one to work on backlinks?

Sorry for the late response. If I had to guess...I would look into a after-market shops (Fast and Furious type places) and car clubs. I could see those places having a good following...but, you're right, Joe's Automotive Repair...not so much.

Hi Tanveer,

I'm not really sure there's much you can do to speed up the process. It's a major flaw in their "we're too cool to have a phone number" policy; there's no one to escalate an urgent issue from a minor one. You pretty much just have to wait in your queue. That being said, if you just want to make sure they know you are alive, you can tweet them. They always respond to that quickly...usually, just to say "they're working on it," but it's something.

Currently, one of our offices has two businesses in it that our owned by the same person. The law firm and the title company. They both use the same address, but they both rank locally for this area. I'm worried that having another company rent space here that is not affiliated with the owner AND is using the same address will hurt us. What are our options here?

The best thing I can think to do is have them add a suite number or something to their listing, but I'm not sure exactly how to do that. Do I need to get the post office is to verify that? Will google and the rest just overturn it, if it's not in their records? Anyone know how best to proceed with this?

There's a microbrewery in our area that just launched its first website. It has the "verify your age" homepage (which is not really their homepage, but I don't know what it's called) before you can enter. It looks like this: http://angrychairbrewing.com/

Anyway, does this hurt them at all from a rankings standpoint? Also, assuming bots/spiders/ROGER can crawl sites like this, (which I think they would have to be able to do) how do they get around this verification?

Am I missing something? From the why you described it, I really don't see how this can be considered "buying a link" at all. If you told University X, we will do a scholarship specifically for your students, onliy if you link to it, then, sure, that makes sense. However, if the scholarship isn't directly tied to a particular school, then I don't see the problem.

If this is considered buying links and can be penalized, then wouldn't that mean any contests, give-a-ways or sponsorships that a site creates, and then that someone else links to would be violating google's guidelines?

It's ball park, but I still can't know for sure if something REALLY was popular or just paid.

We did a 10 question quiz awhile back relating to something we were sponsoring, and it had a decent response. However, considering quizzes just aren't that long, does that contribute to making the site's content thin? Obviously, it's not a major problem at the moment, but if we did more of them would this be an issue? If there's no real issue, I'd prefer not to no-index them, but I'd love some feedback to help make the decision.

Thanks for the help. I was not aware of "Must-use plugins," but I will read up on them. Thankfully, I can add links in the text editor, so it's not the end of the world. However, it's kind of annoying.

Have you ever had much luck in the WP support forum? I submitted my post there, but is always so bogged down, I've never gotten back anything helpful.

I'm thinking about just trying to use the backup from before we upgraded and staying with WP 3.9.2, until I have time to figure this out. Would there be any issue with that, do you think?

Well, a lot depends on your target market. For example, potential clients in our service area do not use google + for anything socially related. Most of the users - though certainly not all - are business owners or marketers trying to use it for SEO purposes (right or wrong as that strategy may be). If you are in a similar situation, then your best bet would be to reach out to other business owners that do not compete with you and start spreading their content. At least some will reciprocate, though if that doesn't happen, you can always follow up with them more directly. We've had limited success with this, but if your area has a more google+ friendly crowd or a different demographic, then it might be worth looking into.

Anyone else who runs a WP site have problems hyperlinking after the 4.0 update? I read I could deactivate all my plugins, and go through them one-by-one, but before I go to that step, I want to know if there's either an easier way to regain this functionality or if there is a specific plugin that's known to cause the problem.

How long does it take for your mobile site to load? It might not be the amount of pages, but how slow the mobile site is?

I'm not looking for a tool to tell me yes or no, and I have the scores I want...I've been pretty clear about that. Why is it you assume wanting to know information, means something nefarious? I inherited a site I didn't build, and I'm trying to fix it. I can't do that without knowing how things are measured. If you don't want to help, don't help. You don't need to accuse me or take things personally, because I'm a competitor.

I need to clarify, I do not care if keyword density is a good thing or a bad thing. All I want to know is how it is calculated. I'm not looking for advice, just the formula for how it determined. It's a curiosity I'd like answered. Does it take into consideration every single word on the page (including footers, sidebars, etc) or just what's "in the middle" so to speak?
