"Oh no it isn't" (said in my best pantomime voice)
Still got the google pending at the bottom that won't delete. Sorry
Actually, if I delete the current files, it just leaves me with a single blank entry which is still pending. See photo enclosed.
It would still be nice to have this sorted.
Still having the same problem, 17 hours later....
I'm just running a keyword difficulty analysis and it seems to be stuck. The analysis report is just marked as pending with the arrows going round and round.
I've tried ti in two browsers (firefox/chrome) just in case it was something local.
Are there current problems?
Thanks Miriam, that's given me plenty to go on!
In a larger city (london for example) when there are dozens of one specific industry, how does Google choose who to show in their local results?
For example if I type "solicitor london" it shows me 7 local results, but I know there are far more than 7 solicitors in London. Do they change as frequently as the rest of the serps or is there something you can do to ensure you get in that local search?
Added to this, does being part of a chain/franchise make a difference?
Help/thoughts/advice would be appreciated.
Hi Phil,
Thanks for the reply. The quote (i've since sourced) comes from Forrester (http://blogs.forrester.com/interactive_marketing/2009/01/the-easiest-way.html) but in checking, even IF there was any truth to it back then (2009), there doesn't seem to be any now.
Regardless, your insights on video are helpful, and along with the info of SERP Turkey, I've got a bit more direction to go in. Thanks again.
I've come across various places that give statistics for things like
"Video search results have a higher click-through than plain text results. " and
"Video is 50 times more likely to get organic page ranks in Google than plain text results"
How true are these and does anyone have a definitive guide to video SEO?
Thanks Gary. That's quite an extensive sitemap!
I'm not sure how much I had thought a sitemap through, but I certainly had a vague structure in mind, but you know how these "little projects" - they grow and grow into monsters!
As simon says, the top is mostly fine, but the bottom is messy. There is too much text - I'd remove all the text below " search louisville homes right here on our website" and probably move it to another page. Maybe keep one testimonial (or use a slider to show several). Shorten the page, less is more.
You may want to try https://www.optimizely.com to test alternatives to your home page.
Thanks Simon. That was generally my opinion, mostly based on the fact that the majority of websites do it the way you say, but I thought I'd ask the question before I embark on the project.
Hi,
You haven't said if the site is for you or a client, but I usually ask the client for a list of keywords for their industry. Interestingly, these aren't necessarily the best keywords to use, as either some really obvious ones get left off, or they are so into "industry speak" that they forget what the ordinary man on the street would use to find them.
from there I would put that list of words into the google keywords planner tool. https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner
You could do with giving us more info though. Is this site local, or national, or international? That will determine how you use the tool.
Regardless, put in the keywords and "search for new key words and ad group ideas". From there you hopefully will end up with approx 800 keywords to start to work on. You can usually cut this down in half immediately as many of those words will be of little value.
As an alternative, go find your competitors web pages and see what keywords they are using (sometimes if they are dumb enough, they will have written them into the site - inspect the back end of the code by right clicking on the page and view page source).
Last thing I will say is if this don't scrimp on time allotted to keyword research. It's absolutely imperative that you get this right at this stage, as it will set the direction for how the website will look, and how you will run the site. My opinion is that the best keyword research brings the best results. I usually spend a couple of days (16 - 20 hours) at least before embarking on a new site.
I'm thinking of a little project website, but wonder whether I should use subdomains, or just simply categorize the site.
For example, (I haven't chosen my domain yet) If I had www.flowers.com, and wanted to produce pages for each type of flower, should i use
rose.flower.com
or
flower.com/rose
For SEO purposes, or usability, does it matter?
Thanks in advance.
Just be glad you have Moz local - us poor Brits are suffering without it!
When I started out, I spent hours on Google searching all kinds of stuff. Unfortunately at the time I didn't realise that most SEO advice really was SnakE Oil advice, and I can't begin to think of how many hours/days/weeks were wasted picking through forums, dodgy SEO companies and sales sharks, until I came here.
Things changed rapidly, and I did exactly as Egol advised - I just spent hours learning (and still do) through the forums, the various webinars and just gleaning the good solid advice from those who are in the know.
I remain amazed at how open the community of real professionals really are... and these Q&As are one of the reasons my subscriptions continue each month. I couldn't find this sort of advice elsewhere without paying a fortune for it!
Bryan,
I've just purchased this and set it up. I'm only just getting to grips with it, but it is an awesome bit of kit, and I'm really happy to have dived in and installed it after your recommendation.
Thanks for that!
That's an idea Keri... I think the answers so far have helped pay for this months subscription already!!
Thanks
...but if anyone else has other ideas, keep them coming
Egol, you are right, there are no boring industries, and your added point has even more relevance to my situation.
Few of my customers will actually get out a pen/keyboard and write anything, making my task even harder, and fewer still want to pay for great content.
However, regardless of my above gripes, you have helped greatly in regards to content. Links may be another matter, but of course, great content should hopefully mean the links will follow.
Thanks again Egol.
