also the onsite pages have bad anchor text links

The home page and inner pages  has tons of internal anchor text links that look pretty spammy could be that is hurting you. Tons of exact anchor texts all with word commoditie in it very unnatural.

Just some quick ideas for you

Firstly i cant get to your facebook etc pages from site - i can only like etc .

Leverages your audience-  i would do something for links with a strong blog or site who wants to get infront of that big social audience of yours.

Have them create content for you to put on your site that might attract attention and links.

Have them Share and spread the love links will follow

Rule of thumb is if its a niche directory specific for your industry  then go for it otherwise unless it dmoz or really strong and popular dont. All the link and seo directories i would stay away from.

Google doesnt like paid links that being said - It only pays if in a world without seo you would want to be featured on that site in that way- (dont over do it and dont use brokers reach out and negotiate the feature your self)

What is your goal of this contest? If you are just trying to get more followers on facebook why are you worried about google? Contests using app like wildfire snapp app or raffle copter as well as promoting it with ads etc are a great way to get your community started and is safe from harming you or your rankings.

If you are asking about links generated by such a contest or the ranking effects of social shares from google's prospective as long as you aren't doing anything spammy or underhanded and have real market goals in mind you should be fine.

Paddy Moogans was great aswell and i found Greg Bosers to be very relevant to us on the agency side of things

I would find a blog that has a nice following you want to get in front of and team up with them to sponsor an animal from the Woodstock Farm and Animal Sanctuary in the blogs name and do something like what you said for every _____ you will sponsor another work with what the blogger wants- This way you get infront of the correct audience and are guaranteed success

I dont think you need more then 100 words on your home page- look at http://www.seomoz.org/ they dont have so many words - the key is to make your words count not just filler for seo

You should focus on creating great link worthy content for your site that really educates and helps your visitors

You need to up your seo game- without seeing the term and site nobody can really tell you what to focus on. But some great partial anchor text links from great site should help

It depends on the industry i have seen 30% click fraud - google tends to credit back the money but it could max out a daily budget. -You can also have google to a special audit to see if any strange click patterns are happening.
