RE: How long before rankings return?
One thing you didn't mention which immediately caught my attention, what are you doing with the old static html pages? Make sure if you havent done so already to properly 301 redirect the old html pages to the new pages. There is actually a WordPress plugin which can help you out on this also, Simple 301 Redirects
Its really tough to say with Google on a situation like this, my guess is once you have fixed all errors and have 301's and new sitemap setup properly within 2-4 weeks you will be back "close to" your old rankings.

RE: Is anybody else having great difficulty in finding good link opportunities on Open Site Explorer?
This issue isn't OSE problem, it sounds like its your competitors problem. You should be using it to see what your competitor is doing, then figure out a way on your own to do better than them - Which from the sounds of it shouldn't be too hard.

RE: Copying Competitor's Link Backs?
Totally agree with Doug on how to analyse. Try to out think your competition, not copy your competition is the best way to go about it.
If your best competition's backlink portfolio is built up with directories, then you should save yourself the trouble in copying all of their links. For the same amount of time you will take submitting to hundreds of directories you can be building good links, creating great content and being productive. Not to say all directories are bad, SEOmoz just published a list of trusted directories http://www.seomoz.org/directories If you must, submit to those or other relevant directories.
I have never used RoboForm before, but I looked at their site, it looks like it just makes it easier to copy stuff into forms? Its not a good idea to submit to directories using all of the same descriptions/info.
That being said, try reaching out by guest posting, rebuilding broken content & links, etc and only submit to trusted or relevant niche directories if you absolutely feel the need to.

RE: 1800 Flowers Facebook page
Its just a simple iframe setup, using some sort of fan gateway (php or js).
Here is a pretty good tutorial at http://www.daddydesign.com/wordpress/how-to-use-a-fan-gate-on-your-iframe-tab-to-hide-content-until-someone-likes-your-facebook-fan-page/

RE: Is a $100 adwords credit appropriate here
Technically you are allowed 1 AdWords account per Company/URL. Is the new account for the same website? If it is for a different URL as the other account, using a $100 credit is perfectly fine.
If it is for the same URL, is there a specific reason to you are setting up a new one? You can still use the $100 coupon on this site - Google will never know, but it would be against the TOS so I will leave that judgement call up to you.
Coupon guidelines from Google:
- Coupons are for new AdWords clients only (Accounts Created within 14 days).
- Coupons may only be used for accounts in US or Canada (Coupons redeemed outside of the US or Canada are not considered part of your coupon activity.)
- One coupon per client only, subject to terms and conditions
- Use marketing materials available on "Marketing tools" tab to get your clients motivated and provide guidance on AdWords campaign set up

RE: Does focussing deep linking too much on one page have a negative impact elsewhere?
Hi Simon,
What about when you have a average site no one really cares about, but on this average site they have a page with really awesome content and it looks like this:
- http://www.boringsite.com/ - 30 inbound links
- http://www.boringsite.com/really-awesome-content/ - 3000 inbound links
Would that not make sense? Will Google still see that as un natural, or will they know the reason for the link discrepancies?
Thanks,
Casey

RE: Link to my site not showing up in Open Site Explorer
There could be a number of reasons that it is not showing up in Open Site Explorer. OSE is updated roughly every 30 days, and it may take up to 2 updates for your link to show up in OSE. You can read more on how Open Site Explorer crawls the web and get a few tips on "why isn't there any link data for mu URL" at http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/about#why-isn-t-there-any-link-data-for-my-url
A couple of reasons on why it wouldnt show up (assuming you have waited 2 update cycles):
- There is a problem with the page blocking the crawlers
- There are no links or any way for the crawlers to find the page your link is on. (In this case you have to wonder how valuable this link is anyways. If you think it is of value, submit it to digg or stumbleupon to give it a link for the crawler to find in the next update)

RE: Changing image path of the whole domain
Hi Steffen, You shouldn't see a decrease in your SERP's for the page the images are on, assuming you keep the alt and title tags the same. Google may even see the new URL as a update to the page, which has its benefit.
If the images are ranked in Google image search, you will obviously have a drop in that image ranking. You can fight this by 301 redirecting the old image to the new image as well as updating your sitemap. Here is a great link on the subject including a response from Rand explaining it more http://www.seomoz.org/qa/view/52713/301-redirect-an-image

RE: H1 image
I agree with Amit, I am sitting here trying to come up with a logical reason why you would ever need to set up your site with a image in a h1 tag in the first place. You should re-think your overall site structure if this is how you have it set up.
If you are simply just wanting to display a nicer headline, look into embedding a web safe font with CSS

RE: Minimum text per product page
Just a thought on your content writers. Are there any universities by you?
We have had great success reaching out to local university job boards and even craigslist looking to hire student writers. The quality is great and we can get quality writing (for general content like product descriptions) for as little as $0.03/word. The best part is they are local, american born english speaking, and eager for more work!

RE: Which is more effective: JQuery + CSS for Tabbed Content or Create Unique Pages for each tab.
Hi Grant,
There are multiple ways of going about this I am sure, but here is my take.
To me, this sort of depends on the content of all 4 tabs and if they are relevant and valuable for the user on this page. Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself:
- Does the user really want to load a new page to see a small section what may or may not have belonged on the previous page?
- Does it make since for a user to go to a new page? (is there a ton of content in these sections)
- Is each section targeting a new keyword, or supporting the main keyword?
jQuery + CSS will be just fine
As long as your developer knows what he is doing, loading jQuery(or better yet pure css) tabs Google will index all of the content on this page. Google should see sitename.com/listing-name#section1 as sitename.com/listing-name. Just make sure the code structure is setup to support any content hierarchy.
**../listing-type/listing-name/ vs ../listing-name/ **
I think this could come down to what these listings are.. If this was say a real estate website it would make since to set it up like:
- ../house/123-main-st/
- ../apartment/432-main-st/
If it makes since to add a listing type I say go for it.
Again, this can differ for what type of content you are providing, but this should provide you with a good sense of general direction.
Thanks,
Casey

RE: Back Link: Is LinkedIn keywords in profile good Link building strategy?
Hi Mike,
LinkedIn is not the best place to build links, but it is a great source to build connections which can turn into link opportunities. The problem with linkedin profile URL's is the URL itself, when adding website links in your profile LinkedIn does not link it simply as http://www.example.com, they link your url as **http://www.linkedin.com/redirect?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com&urlhash=Pwtq. **In the past they used to give you a good link, but since have changed it to this.
You mentioned listing your products on your personal page, this is great but be careful. Try setting up a company profile page and list your products and services there. Your partners and associates can like the company page and share it and its products with their connections.
I guess to answer your question, LinkedIn is a great marketing tool, not so much as a good link building strategy in general though.

RE: Is the Linkscape Index getting updated?
Hi matt,
The update for January was smaller than usual, we noticed also. They also state sometimes it can take up to 2 update cycles for links to be found and included.
Here is a post by Rand on the "interim linkscape update" http://www.seomoz.org/blog/interim-linkscape-update-for-january

RE: URL SEO
Hi Faud,
There is no reason to stuff uk in your URL twice, search engine will see that /uk/ just fine. As this is just a small part of the algorithm anyways either way is just fine for SEO, so use the one whats better for the user.

RE: A question about local longtail keywords
Here is a link to start, they may just provide lawn care, but look at all of these variations: http://ubersuggest.org/?source=web&query=lawn+care&language=English%2FUSA&format=html
I would make one page going after 1 set of keywords (though only 2 or 3 MAX). Never create more than one page that may compete with another page on your site.
You may have one page on lawn care Allentown, PA, and other pages on:
- Lawn care tips
- winter lawn care
- summer lawn care
- lawn care service
- lawn maintenance
- lawn care quote
Etc, etc... Some of those pages make since to combine on one page like "lawn care service" & "lawn maintenance". Just make sure it works for not just Google, but the user also.

RE: A question about local longtail keywords
Hi Ryan,
The best place to start is obviously the Google Keyword tool https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal . There are soooo many ways to to research and come up with keyword combinations, but for local keywords the Google keyword tool will be just fine as you usually arent targeting more than 20.
So lets take the word "lawn services" and "Allentown, PA" and combine them, now you have:
- Allentown PA lawn services
- Allentown lawn services
- lawn services Allentown
- lawn services Allentown PA
I usually start off with doing this for my initial "top of my head keywords", and also include any relevant surrounding cities. You can make a huge list like this easily in excel.
Plug these into the google keyword tool - make sure you select "Exact Match" from the left column.
From here you can now see the estimated search traffic - note, there has been some debate to how accurate this is, but you can still see what keywords are searched more than others. You can also see any related terms and ideas which are usually helpful in growing your keyword list. If you see a related keyword idea, do the same as you did before with the geo variations before and after.
Other tools which will help you come up with keyword variations before you plug them into Google Keyword tool:
I hope this helps.

RE: Same image file with different alt text?
I think this also has something to do with user experience as well as SEO. You want to provide quality content for both Google and more importantly your user. Does this image provide value to your user?
If the image provides value to each of those "widgets" then you should use a different image on each page specific to "blue widgets", "red widgets", etc..
If the image isnt really needed for user value and your just using it fo SEO. I have used the same image on different pages WITH different file names with no problem before, like you sad "red_widgets.jpg" & "blue_widgets.jpg" can be the same file. An easy way to do this is to just duplicate and rename in FTP rather than saving new files in PS.
So either way I wouldn't use the same image with different ALT tags. Its worth it to go the extra mile on this one.

RE: Too many links?
Hi Elias,
Its been in my experience and what I have heard that you can just keep them as is. Just as you were thinking of Google ignoring these links, they probably are.
We took over for a similar situation, almost all of the hundreds of current links were from low quality forum and other profile links. We left them as is and after a couple months of real link building the rankings started to climb with no problem.
If there are any links on sites with illegal content, then I would concentrate on removing those links.
