  • The 302 response code isn't an error, per se. It's a redirect code that generally means 'found'. It doesn't pass 'link juice'. Some of the common uses I've seen include using 302 codes for external links, when they can simply be set to nofollow. The nofollow link attribute is handy when you feel it's necessary to link to an external source, but don't want any of the baggage that comes with passing PR. In the worst case, someone moved pages 'temporarily' when the pages were actually moved permanently. Which may mean pages with incoming links at the old URL aren't passing 'juice' or 'PR' like they should to the new URL. Here's the Moz Guide to Redirect Codes for further reading. I don't know anything about your site, so there may be a good reason for the 302 responses. But the good reasons are quite limited.

  • Addendum to this story: it turns out that this was likely a malicious activity with an extremely similar IP address to ours so we might not notice. We have disavowed.

  • I agree with Ryan.  The one thing to consider is whether redirects will help or hurt your site.  Even websites that are appropriately redirected lose some link equity in the process.  See Matt Cutts' video here which says that roughly 10-15% of PageRank is lost through redirects and outgoing links.  Therefore, if the site has existed using the format domain.com/post-name for a long time and attracted links to those URLs, then the small benefit you get from redirecting to domain.com/keyword/post-name may be outweighed by the natural loss of link equity.

  • Richard we do not allow 800 numbers that our partners do not accept. If we allowed the 800 numbers we would the pass the details along to our partners and get rejected. Unfortunately at this time there is no override for this requirement as if we did bypass it your data would still be stuck in limbo.

  • Bingo - I agree Joe! To me it looks like the way LinkedIn built this, it's not even a no-follow link. If anyone else knows of any LinkedIn strategy, I'd love to hear more.

  • Great add Joseph! Totally agree with you that there is much more to it than just creating quality content from the link earning perspective. I was just making the point that focusing on your sites DA & PA shouldn't be the focal point of one's efforts. I could have elaborated more but I appreciate you doing so! Cheers!

  • HI Alberto, Keep in mind I have not seen your page. I am talking in general specifics. The over all point is if you have a link to another site which is there for reference the user there is no reason to not make it an actual link. Any reason you can think of not to make it a link would also be a reason to remove it. If you feel you have too many links on a specific page then you probably do! Pick the most pertinent ones and axe the others. There are ways to maximize link juice and page authority by using some more advanced SEO tactics, See Rand's post about link sculpting. I will say this is some advanced level planing and not something you would just single out one page to do. Remember SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. White hat SEO deals with how you can best present your page to search engines with out frustrating your users. When you purposely make a change that negatively effects your users and possibly tricks search engines to rank you better you have crossed into grey or black hat SEO. Something that will eventually bit you in the ass. The choice is of course yours, and if you would like me to look at the page in question you can PM me a link I will be happy to do so. I do stand by everything I said in all my replies while speaking in general terms. Don

  • I'm confused when you talk about a content strategy and your spreadsheet looks like it's addressing only a subset of what I would expect in a strategy - that what, when and where. So maybe I'm just caught up in semantics, but I'm really wondering about your objectives, who your audience is, where they like to hang out, the information they want and need, and how you'll measure progress and/or know when adjustment is needed. I think those questions need to be asked and answered before you get to your spreadsheet. The content marketing institute has a very useful guide for developing a content marketing strategy that I look at from time-to-time. This mozinar provides some excellent tools and examples. I also like this 2012 Moz post by Stephanie Chang because of it's practical and manageable for most small business owners. I have no idea if you're a big or small business. Just say'in I find it easier to learn by starting small. I agree with Michael Edwards, that you maybe don't need to post the same thing to all platforms. The one restriction we all face is time and ties back to my other questions. Do you really need to be in all those places? I'd start narrower and have a plan to spread after have met with some success. The plan would include how to reuse existing content. For example, bundling post charts and images into slideshare presentations or webinars.

  • Sure. Feel free to disavow and block that one. There was a recent well done blog post here on malware / spam referrer sites that could further help you: http://moz.com/ugc/how-to-stop-spam-bots-from-ruining-your-analytics-referral-data. Cheers!

  • Hi Nathan, I second Richard's statement. It's a very good idea to build out individual landing pages with contact information. It's even better to include Schema markup, at least for the NAP. And lucky you! There's markup that relates directly to a furniture store as a local business. To get started with the markup, you'll want to look at the code examples at the bottom of the local business page. That should give you a solid idea how you should structure the markup. Then you can see if your markup checks prior to pushing live via the Google Structured Data Testing Tool. Here's another reference via Moz in regard to on-site local considerations.

  • If both the www. and non-www. URLs were being indexed - creating duplicates for nearly every page on your website - then the significant drop in number of pages indexed makes sense.

  • Moz's own Followerwonk does this for you: https://followerwonk.com/ along with using a Moz Pro account to connect in and compare various social media stats. Outside of those, there are several other similar tools: socialbro.com crowdbooster.com simplymeasured.com Among others. You should be able to come up with metrics using the above. Cheers!

  • As Ryan suggests you still want to FOLLOW rather than giving the bots a dead end as I notice your heading suggests no-follow.

  • You can make the links manual instead of 3xx and use a pop up like, "It looks like you're from [Country].. would you like to browse with those currency and shipping options enabled?"  That way they have to click to enable it and then go to the folder via a static link. For load times, there are several CDN options out there that could help speed that side of it up...  Cheers!
