  • Just to be clear, here we are talking about URLs and not the domain name because when it comes to domain name my personal advice is not to go fir hyphens as this is not a common practice plus its usually a practice of spammers to use shady domain names. As far as URLs are concern it’s a wonderful idea as Lina said they are better than underscores. Hope this helps!

  • Hello StoryScout, I apologize for the wait on this. You may get a response sooner next time by providing more detail. Could you please elaborate on the situation and what you're trying to accomplish? What content management system or shopping cart system is your client's website on now? What do you mean by "link their website to eBay"? Do you mean linking an affiliate feed so your client can earn eBay affiliate revenue? Do you mean hyperlinking to a page on eBay, such as your client's eBay store landing page and/or product pages? Do you just want an "iframe" of their eBay store on their site? Or are you looking to migrate their entire store over to eBay? I look forward to helping further if I can.

  • It'd be a good idea to contact the customer and ask for their permission first, and if everything is a go it's fine to promote the positive review. It could also make a nice addition to a page where you collect them, if you have something up and running like that. Cheers!

  • I have the same issue. Since I only wrote 2 posts I am considering creating a page called Blog, then under this creating pages for each blog post, rather than use the blog area. Since I post about once a month this should be ok. That would be a work around.

  • Long complex URL will kill your site if they aren't relevant. Try to keep them as small and relevant to the content as possible. For instance: http://www.website.com/This-is-a-story-all-about-dragons-written-in-english-by-dave-nash/1sdfg/34  is terrible http://www.website.com/Stories-About-Dragons would be much better. Dave Nash isn't known as an author and because your search would more than likely be localised English would be the default, and some systems add codes onto the end or middle of the url, middle is the worst! As for Title this is what appears in the code as <title>Stories About Dragons</title> most good CMS systems will allow a different Meta Page Title than a Page Title which is usually encapsulated within a H1 tag. Therefore the URL http://www.website.com/Stories-About-Dragons (Note Google doesn't like spaces in URLS) could have a meta title of <title>Stories About Dragons</title> and a page title of This is a story all about Dragons

  • The reason that duplicate content is an issue is because Google will eventually drop one of the duplicates from its index, and if you have both page A and page B canonicalized to page B, Google will eventually drop page A in favor of page B. If you are concerned that page A is not being crawled, you can use Fetch as Google to ask Google to recrawl it. But if A is not being crawled and B is, again B will be chosen over A in the results pages.

  • Was going to disavow them but have reached out and asked for a nofollow on the menu because they do have some legitimate mentions in their forums that are worth preserving. We actually have no manual actions against us, but we do have some links that are very dodgy ( like the 6.4 million links from these paragons of virtue: http://ebetsports.com/). I am trying to stay on top of it before we get the call. We also have what I would consider a low DA versus our competitors, since we are a 20+ year old domain, so I am stripping the low hanging fruit while trying to get back to basic 'average' SEO.

  • I don't know what the futur will bring, the authorship could still do a job you need to care about. Maybe Authorship will never be a rankingfactor, but that may not be necessary. Maybe it was never a plan - who knows. I think you can read that article written by Eric Enge on searchengineland.com/authorship-dead-long-live-authorship

  • One other thing I would say is we have a managed server which was getting a little long in the tooth (old) so we upgraded to a new server. The Speed of delivery went up 10 fold and so did the Google rankings.

  • To expand on what Ryan was saying, your query was for "bangerhead" & your meta descriptions states: So in this case, since your query was not in your meta description, Google typically will pull a snippet containing that keyword: **Bangerhead **Professional Fresh Me Up! (200ml) · **Bangerhead **Professional Fresh Me... Moroccanoil Treatment (50 ml) · RefectoCil Frans- & Ögonbrynsfärg.

  • Your solution is fine... and Google doesn't have problems with sites having different language version hosted in different domains (if it was so, Amazon should be invisible...). However, a better and complementary solution would be asking to your devs to create a rule so that, everytime the site receive a visit from an IP different from the Italian ones, an over box will be shown suggesting the visitors to visit the English version of the site and offering them the link to that version. This is a good thing also in terms of usability, because users will immediately know what to do and do not need to discover the English flag or feeling as if they were in the wrong web site.
