When did the New Google Algorithm Come into Force in the UK
Hi Mathew, a bunch of UK SEOs are keeping an eye out on the UK Roll out of the Panda update - however there isnt any hard evidence to prove that it has been rolled out. Infact, since Mahalo still ranks in the UK, I would say that itdef hasnt been rolled out. I would look beyond the algo change to investigate your traffic loss, UNLESS your traffic loss was from outside the UK? Have you run an analytics segment analysis where your traffic is from normally and if its lost out regionally?

New Content
Spinning content is okay. Don't use snippets, reword! Rewrite the content on your existing pages first instead of creating new ones.

Ranking questions
Hi Ashley, I'm following up on older questions. I'm seeing you at 16 for loose diamonds, and 46 for engagement rings with the URL you've shown. Threads on Q&A don't get bumped with new activity, so if you'd still like some advice, I'd suggest opening a new question with current information and seeing what people have to say. The Q&A section is a lot more active now than it was in March, so you're likely to get a few new viewpoints.

Maximising Local Search
Thanks for the responses guys... The specific location based weather pages have been optimised within the page titles. As you suggest, I've been targeting high authority local websites that provide specific local content (sport, lifestyle, events, news etc). This seems to be the only solution to the problem in trying to increase our ranking for these pages, any other suggestions would be much appreciated

Implications of hosting country versus actual trading country?
Hi Andy - I wish I could move away from them, but seem to be locked in. Yes, there are databases involved. Thank you. I am now looking into hosting in the UK. You live and learn - but sometimes at a price. Thanks again.

What are the 10 most competitive keywords?
The recent Google update actually helped quite a bit though, we went from not being in the top 50 for some terms to being at the top of page 2, actually have a reason to work for it now!

Dynamically generated page issues
If every single product page is linking to a category page, I am sure that Google will discount these links some what. I think linking from articles and good quality content to the category pages will have some positive effect, but like others have mentioned don't spend too long working on this as the total benefit will not be huge.

International SEO - auto geo-targetting
Hi Keri, Steve and Russ, I'm glad to weigh in on this if Steve needs a little more help. In short, my opinion is going to be very close to Russ, but I'm going to articulate it in a different way: You talk about building a product based strategy rather than branding. I'd have to say that building the brand is going to be more important. The structure that Russ proposes allows you to leverage the authority of the whole site, rather than starting from scratch. And isn't that going to be better for your best product as well as those you have deemed secondary?

Lots of links on homepage to internal pages with keyword rich anchor text - problem?
I have been doing this a long time now and have never come across anyone who endorses this as a technique. To me if it smells even slightly of desperation or 'grey hat' then I steer well clear. You can rest assured that Google will get what the page and site are about without having all of these multiple links to the same pages being thrown at them - in the same way they say not to keyword stuff because they don't need to keep being told Regards, Andy

Some sites like bbc.co.uk place the most important category links at the bottom of the page while other sites will place the whole site map there. What are the benefits (or not) of both approaches?
If I were to put a site map at the bottom of a page, I would not list every single page but only the most important category and page links, along with the links required for legal purposes. You don't want footer links to drain your page of link juice, nor overwhelm your page design. What's more, placing a ton of the same links on every single page of a site is definitely considered spammy these days. For news sites, yes, the lead story should be the first thing a user sees. For most other sites, though, a few links in a well-designed top nav bar should be placed near the top of the page or directly underneath a branded banner.
