  • Check out this post by Lunametrics on Designing a Google Analytics Friendly Site. You'll see that there is an advantage to having a little more structure and organization to your URLs when you want to go back and look at your analytics.

  • Well, I'm listed in DMOZ along with my competitors. Why would google.com.sg show a different set of DMOZ listings? Maybe this is just random, or perhaps nothing I can do about it. I was merely trying to get the same (relevant) links my competitors had and was wondering if there's anything I can do to affect google.com.sg's showing them but not me...

  • Ditto that. Domain Alias = Domain Masking. htaccess is a 301 redirect. You probably want to just use a site 301 redirect, also called site forwarding. But 301 is the correct forward as it is considered permanent.

  • I agree. In general, I would say that your branded links should always be greater than any single keyword. Sounds like you are doing it right.

  • A badly-spun article can also make your company look bad and incompetent. Do you really want your company name attached to an article that was written by a machine? And do you want a backlink from a spammy blog or directory that is filled with other such articles? You're not getting on most of the good sites with that type of article, as the good sites have humans that can spot these articles and leave them in an unpublished purgatory (at best) or ban the submitter/destination URL from that entire site. Now that it's been a couple of months later, can you tell us what you decided to do, and anything interesting you found?

  • It used to be that you could embed images on your site from another site (like Picasa) and your site would show as the source. I don't know if this is the case. I would probably put them on my server anyways.

  • Thomas, that just confirms what I was thinking.  If we can spend less time ranking really well (top 3) for deeper niche searches for someone looking to live in a specific area, and times that by 100 then we are getting some really nice targeted traffic. Since the long tail keywords are usually a broad mix of real estate terms, how do you get one page to rank well for those variations?  In real estate, someone could search for the same thing in a thousand different ways.  Do you go after a bigger term like "Denver Highlands Neighborhood Homes for Sale" in the title tag and then use other real estate keywords on the page like MLS, listings, houses, condos, lofts, etc.  Seems like we get some long tail action just off random words used once on the page.  Any info you can provide on page optimization for longtail searches would be appreciated.

  • Thesis is a theme/framework that is built for WordPress.org. Tumblr is a free blogging software. For SEO perspective, I'd go with, hands down, Thesis. First off, your URL on tumblr is sitename.tumblr.com. Secondly, it's free, so it's never as good. Thesis is built with a lot of in-code SEO so the site has maximum growth. I'd definitely go with WordPress/Thesis.

  • There are a number of factors to consider. The links: (i) Can take time for Google to pick them up. Are they showing in your webmaster tools? (ii) Do the links have a nofollow tag? (iii) How competitive is the first page ? (iv) In one of the latest SEOMoz reports, it has been suggested that exact keyword usage in anchor text may be less effective than broad usage. (v) How many is double ? from 1 link to 2 ? (vi) On-page content good? Refreshed it lately ? It is fine to redirect the non-www to the www with a 301 redirect. Hope the above helps!
