  • They change dynamically as new products are added or removed. Content is framed in from a subdomain on the client's site that syncs with All You Retail's (the third party supplier) inventory stuff. Content lives in the subdomain, images are hotlinked from a variety of different places (suppliers, AYRs system, supplier info stream). As for how exactly the inventory works, I'm not 100% sure yet. The site I'm referring to is here: http://durochersonline.com You can see what I mean. I know there are a slew of other SEO problems to be fixed, but this is the one I've never dealt with before. I don't start on the project for a few weeks, just want to make sure I know what I'm in for here.

  • The best way I know of to truly research your market and figure out which keywords will convert well is to use Google AdWords.  Aaron Wall wrote a great post a while back about this topic: Market Research Using Google AdWords Aside from that, you can also look at whatever traffic you are currently getting in your analytics.  Although this will obviously not be a complete picture of all of the opportunities available to you, you can certainly mine the data for some sort of actionable information. Oftentimes, the short-tail keywords are not the ones that will work best for promoting your website.  There is frequently a tradeoff between traffic and conversion rate.  Short-tail keywords get tons of traffic, but they don't always convert well.  Conversely, long-tail keywords might not get much traffic, but if you choose specific targets, they can convert exceptionally well.  Obviously your strategy is going to involve targeting a mix of both.

  • Thanks for your answer vitalscom. I was planning to go with using a different TLD (and unique, language-specific content) for each language - as I believed this to be the preferred strategy. I wasn't aware of the change in GWT that you mentioned. I was under the impression that there's an advantage when trying to rank in countries with the TLD of that specific country.

  • PS: How do I find the competitor's links that are earned by editorial acculmulation? It says that these links are acquired through creating citation worthy material in relevant communities. What types of communities and what's the correct process of acquiring these links?

  • Hi Alan Really sorry to hear that I set up all my clients on different accounts so as to minimise risk of this type of thing. What you could try (perhaps for a less important GooglePlace / client). Set up a new ID and then go in via a search on GooglePlaces and see if you can take over the listing. Worth a try perhaps.

  • Hi Mulith Haven't checked out the situation, but I don't think it is the paid links from directories, here is a blog post from Matt cutts addressing the topic http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-to-report-paid-links/ (It's old, but I don't think much more has officially been released by Google). Often when you do big changes (the right way) on a website your ranking initially drop, just to recover when Google has understood what has happened on your website. Could be alot of factor influencing the drop in traffic, and is probably the result of tampering with the existing site structure/content. I have often had it that when I replace old content, ranking initially drop and later on increase again. Hope you recover Cheers

  • Well the main article should be on its own page with its own value, so that could gain some steam if it is linked to or picked up by other blogs as reference. I think in the end it depends on how good the content is, if its good content then it should stay relevant and help your website.

  • There's no direct punishment for buying a used domain. The problem comes in that you're probably not going to keep the same site structure. At this point you need to realize that you need an exhaustive 301 remap so you keep as much rank from the existing pages as possible. The bad things about a domain buy? Well, you're getting whatever reputation the old site had (links, reviews, social commentary, etc) and if that was negative that now becomes your responsibility.

  • Just ensure your redirects are setup and that you have proper 404 page in case you miss any 301's so that google handles everything properly. It shouldn't be a big deal though.

  • Have raised the same issue in another thread, and others are also having the same prob, Rand has personally answered that saying it is being dealt with, but as of now, it is still behaving strangely. Reports I ordered days ago and a few this morning are still "pending", another I ordered 5 mins ago, came through straight away. This is odd ....
