  • Hi Edmond, Chris is right.  I haven't notice anything in the past couple of days and I haven't seen any buzz from anyone else.  Usually, if someone in Google sneezes, the SEO news outlets go nuts. I wanted to clarify something Chris didn't touch on, though.  You seem to be referring to the Google Toolbar PageRank update that happened a few days ago.  I wanted to clarify for you that the update didn't affect rankings.  The Toolbar PageRank is just a general indicator of a site's pagerank in the context of Google's current index.  It's just an indicator (and an unreliable one at that), not something that causes anything to happen. • Hi Jonathan, The best way to start looking for duplicates is to go to Google Maps and type in current phone numbers and any past phone numbers to see if more than one listing surfaces for them. It sounds like you are making major right steps in many areas. Bringing us back to the concept that these things take time. Once all potential negatives can be resolved, then there is only going forward with positives including content development, review acquisition, social outreach, link earning, etc. Your original thread from October dates the start of your cleanup to about 2 months ago. While everything is dependent on the competitiveness of a business' local market, you should begin to see positive outcomes at some point, but when that will be can't really be estimated. So basically, your path to success will look like this: Resolve negatives Build on-going postives See results once Google catches onto the fact that there are no negatives and that a positive effort is being made on an on-going basis that is superior to the efforts of local competitors. Pretty much all Local SEO campaigns follow this general pattern and, from your description of your efforts, it sounds like you are on the right track and just need to give things time. *I will make one proviso to this. Let's say 6 months go by and you are still not seeing the client become a chief player in the results for their local market. If this was happening to me, I'd try to find someone more expert than myself to audit the site in case I've overlooked something I'm not trained to spot. Hope this helps, and good luck!

  • Nice catch, Lynn. That's got to be (at least the majority of) the problem.

  • Thanks for your suggestions. The fans have been building, and are in fact more than another Page I created for another client around the same time... and that Page is page 1 in the SERPs along with their website, twitter, etc. I can only see one difference between these two Pages, and that's that the 2nd client didn't have a facebook account, so one was created, and although my own admin for the page is confirmed, his is not ...and that could be a reason internally of facebook not listing it's own page. I'll close the question, as currently this seems to be an anomaly yet to be solved, however I will be getting my client to confirm his facebook account and check his privacy settings in case anything is blocking access there.

  • It will help drive some traffic though you need to have high quality articles that are informative and provides value to the reader.  The links are no follow but who cares your using it to gain traffic based on the article. Quit trying to game google and build useful content for the internet.

  • No that would be against G+ TOS. You would need to use the rel=publisher tag instead and link to the business G+ page.

  • Rich - Google and other search engines will consider each of these pages different and unique: Www.domain.com/services/index.php Www.domain.com/services/ www.domain.com/services … so, you should create a redirect rule for each to go to the new page. Ideally, you should have a rel=canonical tag in place, so you don't get dinged for duplicate content. But if you have an external link pointing to /services/index.php and another link pointing to /services/ and a third link pointing to /services  … then you'll need three 301 redirects.  But redirect them ALL to one page.  Of the three, /services/ is probably the better choice, but that's a personal opinion, and one that's based on what actually shows up on your site. Here's how to redirect all three pages to one common page: Redirect 301 /services/index.php http://www.atlasdentistry.com/services/ Redirect 301 /services/ http://www.atlasdentistry.com/services/ Redirect 301 /services  http://www.atlasdentistry.com/services Hope this helps! -- Jeff

  • I like Frederico's response and agree with it. If you are providing additional content and value (which is good for the site visitor), you are fine. We actually do a very similar thing with highly technical data and the only time we ran into duplicate content issues was when we accidentally had three pages about the same product because it applied to three different categories. To fix the issue, we created a new product page listing all three categories on the page itself, and applied canonical tags from the other three duplicate pages to the new page.

  • I don't think there's a clear answer. Longer headlines are harder to share on some social media sites (especially twitter) and Google won't display much past 55-75 characters in search results. But from a user engagement perspective, I bet Huffington post is finding some success with the longer headlines. This probably has as much to do with how they display the headlines on their site, and also how they distribute the content and share, so it doesn't mean this is a system that would work for everyone. Best practice remains writing headlines between 55-75 characters. But best practices were made to be broken

  • Webmaster Tools isn't telling you that it thinks your website is about Dollars, its telling you that it sees that mentioned often on your site.  You really don't need to fix anything, but perhaps adding more content about your target keyword will help push that down a bit.  Are you saying something costs "88 Dollars" all over your website or actually using a $? If its the latter, that would be very interesting.  If its the former, remove dollar and use $ instead.  Cheers!

  • I see this quite often with companies who've set themselves up on facebook. It makes no sense for businesses to have a personal profile. Those profiles are designed for people, and yes it's a violation of the terms of use for companies to masquerade as people (be it intentionally or otherwise). So a profile like that is in risk of being deleted by facebook at any time. Also from a user point of view it makes no sense to have to 'friend' an entity, and just looks plain weird when referred to as a person. e.g. "company ___ has just updates 'his (or her)' profile photo". etc. At least your company in question do have a proper page setup, so there really is no point in having a duplicate showing up. If they are using it as an account in order to access their Page they can do that so easily from their personal profiles. The Admin roles in facebook are now improved with a couple of different access levels from full admin to content creator, so there's no reason why the business owner, agency, content creators and anyone else can't manage a business Page with their personal profile(s) for access. On your business Page you will be able to build on those Likes and run ads etc. as it was designed to be used. My advice is delete the personal profile (making sure you'll be able to access the Page via another account first). If they have 'friends' customers etc. on that personal profile maybe post a message to forewarn them that you'll be deleting that account soon and to head over and Like your Page to keep updated. Hope this helps.

  • Unfortunately this really depends on who designed the template. I would try to track that down Go to your Wordpress dashboard Click on "Appearance" Look at "Current Theme". The name of the theme should be here, and often the author, and the author's website. From there it is much easier to get support for your particular theme. Many Sliders are also plugins: Go to your dashboard Click on "Plugins" Look for a plugin that says "Slider" or something to that nature. A couple of popular sliders include "Revolution Slider" and 'Cute Slider WP". Again look for author details. They may be able to help. The question of how to fix it really depends a lot on who made the theme or plugin. Often on old themes/plugins its hard to get immediate help but you may find a forum that has the answer to your question. If its a new theme/plugin the author or company that made it is likely is somewhere waiting to provide answers.
