  • Thanks. None of those will do what I need unfortunately. I am using RSSEO in J3.0. Unfortunately it doesn't have the option to change the urls to custom urls. I installed: MijoSEF Popular but it changed the existing sef-url structure so it's contracts what I have already done. So I will need to keep the RSSEO in place. So, what I need is a plugin/component to allow me to customize the urls and also creating 301's for the old ones.

  • I'll pass that suggestion along. Currently, there are other providers to help with this, such as copyscape.

  • I have personally done this in the past, it didn't affect at all my rankings and it could even be seen as a benefit for your users. I guess you are going with an Apache web server, make sure to set 301 redirects from the .php versions to the [no extension] URL (via the .htaccess). Even if the user types index.php, you should create a rewrite rule to remove that .php and set a 301 in the process. Hope that helps!

  • Thanks Cyrus. I hear what you're saying, I'm just confused as to why Google would allow us on the first page for so many keywords every other week if we had so many bad links? My understanding was more that you have rankings, and you hold those rankings unless a competitor comes and overtakes you, or if you get penalized by Google. I guess this is technically the latter, but if I was getting penalized I wasn't expecting to be anywhere close to the first page for my targeted keywords. I suppose I will look into cleaning up the link profile. I am also planning on switching hosts to WP Engine from our HostGator VPS as it's just too slow. Perhaps changing hosts and speeding up the load time will help a bit as well. I'll continue to tell the client to write more content. I personally don't do any black-hat stuff, especially link-building, so I'll have to go in and see what his old SEO people did.

  • Very nice the extensión on google chrome Davinia althoght just give the links paga by page with is arder on bif websites with tousands of pages. Webmaster tools tells you where are the bad links coming from although sometimes that link as already been fixed before by you. If you are using wordpress, than i think broken ink checker will be the best way to detect and correct the broken links in the same plugin

  • Courtney, I agree with Bradley. You and your client shouldn't worry about it too much. Write the Title to be the best for your searcher to help provide the best explanation for what that specific page consists of. This will also be to Google's liking, especially with the Hummingbird update to show relevance and human readability. Avoiding stop words can be considered an older SEO tactic, much like placing your brand name at the end of the Title. We now see Google taking the brand names, if placed at the end of the Title, and moving them to the beginning of the Title at their discretion. Also, educate your client on other SEO focused articles and checklists rather than GoDaddy. GoDaddy's SEO content and advice is sub-par at best compared to the plethora of content out there for SEO best practices for proper optimization. Hope this was helpful! - Patrick

  • What do you mean by "search engine simulators"? I tested crawling your site with googlebot as the user agent and it worked just fine. Google and other engines are capable of running javascript and ajax just fine that shouldn't be an issue. What I would suggest is to look over your pagespeed. Your homepage loads a TON of external files, about 50 requests for JS and CSS files. You should really consider putting all those codes into a single JS and CSS file instead, making over 50 calls (+ the extra ajax calls) are WAY too many!, not to mention the hundreds of lines you have of inline JS and styles... http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ecigexpress.com%2F&tab=desktop

  • Quick and Sloppy Answer: the full names probably have more SEO benefit (if any is possible) as opposed to the city initials. Better Answer: I'm not really liking the idea of creating a site with a pile of subdomains.  Are you planning on creating truly rich, full sites for each subdomain with location-specific content?  Putting something on a subdomain causes a degree of separation between each entity.  This could cause a bit of a loss for you when it comes to sharing the benefit of a link to one of the sd's or another.  For example:  batman.wordpress.com does not benefit as much from a link to wordpress.com or reallygoodsite.wordpress.com.  Of course this would be a different scenario but I still think you'd probably be better off using subdirectories ie: example.com/San-Fransisco-Real-Estate.  This ensures that there is no separation between one section and another and each benefits from links to the other. In my experience subdirectories are easier to work with technically as well. I'd rethink any situation where I was going to have to create potentially infinite subdomains and consider making sub directories with keyword-rich URLs instead if that's possible.  Do you really want to create 50 Webmaster Tools accounts and GA profiles?  I wouldn't. Good Luck!

  • “Overall Domain, age does play a role, but a small role & it’s not a very strong ranking factor as compared to others. The main Problem associated with buying Old Domains is you have to find out with what it was associated before? Even best SEO Experts have failed to get a spam free domain in one go Because domains that get Expired might have been used in past for the purposes of Gambling, Spamming, Illegal Content, Adult Websites etc. We have written a post in detail on this topic, whether Domain Age is an SEO Factor or not? • You might possibly have to detail the white-space explicitly with \s RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^old\sfoldr/(.*) /newfolder/$1 [R=301,NC,L]
