  • It feels like you're paying to much attention to the grains of sand and not enough attention to the beach. Think at scale--do you really want to be editing everyone's comments for ever and ever?  How would your audience think about that? If you're audience is prone to misspelings and grammer errors (and whose isn't) so be it.  One comment is worth a few errors and google's not going to ding you for that. Instead, think about how you can get more people who are going to make those errors to your site. Don't knock your audience if they're engaging with your content.

  • The problem is that plugin you are using, "Wordfence". It is probably picking up the crawls from Screaming Frog and Moz as DoS attacks because of the amount of requests from the same IPs. You could either see if the plugin IP whitelisting or why don't you just remove that plugin and use CloudFlare, which is free and offer an even more robust security option + an included CDN.

  • If you have mod_rewrite enabled on your server you could try something like this in your .htaccess file: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(.).htm$ RewriteRule ^(.) /$1.php [R=301,L]

  • I've worked on niche job sites that rank well on page-one for job searches in their niche even though indeed, careerbuilder, craigslist, and others also compete for it.  If you're focused on your niche and partner with schools, employers and others who serve or require resources from personnel in that niche, you can get the links you need to rank.  I just takes work.

  • Hey There Bradley's answer is great. I just want to add, you really should only worry about the suggestions here - http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ - in regards to Google and speed / UX factors that would affect ranking. You should also check for mobile errors in Webmaster Tools.

  • In general, I'd suggest you move away from a keyword-centric strategy and start thinking of your content in terms of themes. Google is pretty good at picking up on themes. And we're getting less and less visibility into keywords. With that in mind, I would probably pick a phrase or two as my core targets and then sprinkle in variations throughout the content. For example, you could pick data capture software as the theme for your whole site because of the volume there (See attachment). It's broad enough for everything in the site to relate to it. Then use your research on specific terms to inform your choices about page titles and other elements. A hierarchy like this may work: Software/Technology - main theme App - pages about your mobile applications Tools - feature pages; the 'tools' are components of or shortcuts in your software (See the "Screen Sharing Tools" heading on our page If pages are extremely similar, I would combine them. Your links will be more concentrated that way. And you can outrank competitors with quality content, even when they have more content. You could also try to target universal results on some of the more competitive terms. 8zsSAB8.png

  • Hey there So Chris is right, this isn't always the meta description showing, but often snippets of text based upon what the searcher typed. But Google is getting the text from somewhere on the partner's website. One thing you should do is check Google's text only cache - type cache:www.domain.com/url-name (adding cache: in front will give you Google's cache - and then click "text-only" in the top right. Search for the text in question there. It's possible either the content is "hidden" somehow but crawled, or maybe it used to be there, and it's still in Google's cache even thought the current page is different.

  • That might be splitting hairs but if I were to choose, I'd point them at which ever had the stiffest competition--if that were the parent, I'd point the sub pages back to it; if one of the sub pages has the toughest go of it, I'd consider daisy chaining them.  Some of the value of that linking would probably depend on how evenly PR is spread between the pages, the page's locations in the site architecture, where the the links are located on the page, and whether such linking helps or hurts the conversion process, so ultimately, the desired value of such sculpting may be hard to realize. • Hey, Thanks for writing in. That's a broad match usage indicator. So I ran the report and it looks like there are 14 broad keyword uses. When you searched in the page it showed you exact keyword use. I hope that helps. Cheers, Joel.

  • When we moved our site over to full HTTPS we noticed that GWMT needed to re-authenticate for the HTTPS domain, and actually shows different information from the HTTPS profile compared to the HTTP profile. The Analytics proporty won't change, but your sitemap will need an update for provide the HTTPS links compared to the HTTP ones. Google will quickly pick-up the protocol change and as long as you set-up correct redirects from HTTP to HTTPS you won't be dropping traffic that much. In the long run you'll see your site returning to it's old self again, depending on how good the rest of your optimization is. Do keep in mind that if you're mixing content (retrieving external content from HTTP sources) some browsers start throwing warnings to users; if you're embedding HTTP content in an HTTPS site, browsers like Chrome don't load the HTTP at all unless the user clicks the option for mixed content at the end of the address bar. Hope this helps!

  • Hi! When you choose your preferred domain between www and non-www, you must declare ownership of both. So don't delete any domain from your account. This is most likely the reason you have both domains on your GWT. Here you can see the GWT Help and verify what I said: "You may need to verify ownership of both the www and non-www versions of your domain. Because setting a preferred domain impacts both crawling and indexing, we need to ensure that you own both versions" Cheers.
