Hi Peter, There are no messages in GWT. I can't imaging it would be blocked in any kind of way. I have a link to tge sitemap on the footer of every page and and I'm not using a robot.txt file yet. Is there something I'm missing? Is there any kind of contact for this issue?

Well, losing backlinks will absolutely mess with your rankings. Those links prove that you are providing content that other webmasters deem high quality. I clicked through on your links, though, and it looks like you've already migrated everything. How did it go?

That could be a problem, yes. static.domain.com is another domain that www.domain.com and therefore the sitemap should be in www.domain.com for URLs on www.domain.com. I've seen image sitemaps in www.domain.com where all the images are on a subdomain, like static.domain.com and that wasn't an issue, but personally I'd suggest you put the sitemap in the www.domain.com.

Hi Bob, It probably wouldn't be hard for Google to go after sites with over-optimized alt tags - although I'm not sure they would think it's worth their time. What I generally do with alt tags is try to describe the image and if possible, include keyword(s) naturally. If you're picking out relevant images for your site, this shouldn't be too hard, but I wouldn't try to stuff keywords into every little icon. For example, if you have a computer repair website and the main image on your homepage is a technician working on a computer, you could use "computer repair services" as the alt tag, or if you wanted to be really descriptive, "technician repairing computer" wouldn't be bad either. But you probably don't want to force a keyword into a phone icon next your contact information. The point of alt tags is to describe images that search engine bots can't see. So as long as you are being descriptive and not stuffing keywords for the sake of stuffing keywords, you should be fine. Hope this helps. Tim

blogger 2013, you started your blog for a reason and assume you did some research on the competition. Right? well let's go back and look at this research with some real basic common sense. Search like a human not a BOT. Moz tools are as Tommy noted great, Google is not going to be real accurate, " BUT FREE", and SHOULD get you on track. I suggest looking into your competition and reversing the search by looking at links to your competition, content, and code they show public. Otherwise be patient and hit the tough terms. Tommy is on target but be PATIENT and NATURAL.

Hey Tommy, I don't think no-indexing and re-indexing a page will have a negative effect on its ability to rank. As long as all the same ranking signals are in place (links, mentions, on-page optimization, etc.), once it is added back to the index, it should have the same strength as it did the previous year. As you mentioned, the algorithm will most certainly change over the course of a year and you might have new competitors surface during that time, so I wouldn't expect it to rank in the same position. But your plan for dropping it from the index and re-adding should be fine. Tim

I agree with Takeshi. One thing that no one has mentioned here is GetListed.org  (which Moz purchased in 2012 or 2013). Although their evaluation tool can be a bit wonky, it is helpful in identifying which directories your business may or may not be in, and there is an interface that helps you submit your listings manually which is completely free. If you have more time than money, this can be a good alternative to services like Yext. Hope that helps. Cheers! Dana

Thanks for your input. I started playing around with the Rank Checker Firefox extension this morning, and I like it so far. I was just hoping to add more tools to my arsenal in addition to Moz's keyword ranking tool.

I'm going to reach out to our vendor to try and resolve the issue. In your experience, what would be the best way to explain this problem to their tech team and try to resolve it?

For anyone who is interested, it seems like they very recently fixed this for UK (and possibly other users) so I have been able to change the page name via the interface. Cheers Facebook!

Thanks all for your answers. I have read the same about redirecting, but our main site and our mobile site are very different: by both content and layout, as well as url naming structure. If a mobile version of the desktop page is completely different, do I need to do redirects and canonicalization? (i.e. home page on mobile site is completely different from home page on desktop, but both represent the same company). Thanks again for all your help!!!!

Nakul, we are going with the platform for SEO key rich urls, for example: iphone/app/books, ipad/applications/books, android/apps/books/ and this would go for the 30+ additional categories for each device, which is primarily the same as the original App Stores categorization. We are using WordPress, Yoast plugin for SEO, but have just now begun to focus on a correct taxonomy that makes sense to users as well as Google, showing a theme across our content. I would love to use the urls: iphone/apps/books, ipad/apps/books, and android/apps/books/ but I am not sure how to do this technically in WordPress, since you can only have 1 original url for any category, tag, post or page. Also, do you have any suggestions for tools to query what our visitors are searching for on our site? thank you Mike

Me too! I am trying to add a new campaign and on the last step the "Finish" it don’t switch to other page. But when we close the page and come back to the accounts page, information of the competitors look like they are there. I observed when we delete “history” in Chrome it work but sometime not. I hope this problem will be solved.

Hi there, Verifying your Webmaster Tools account via Google Analytics shouldn't have any impact on your ability to see links pointing to your site. How old is your site? If it's brand new, there might just not be any links pointing to it yet. Are there any links that you have manually verified exist? What do you see if you run your site through Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO? It's also worth noting that Google doesn't necessarily list every link that they've discovered in your Webmaster Tools account. So if your site is very new and only has a few links pointing to it, it's possible that they've just chosen not to display those links in your account. Tim
