Ben Morei stated the difference between HTML4 and HTML5 in using heading tags already. His answer is therefor completely correct. What i would like to add to his answer is that you should look at H1, H2, H3, H4, H5 and H6 tags as if the webpage is a book. In a book the chapter-title is a H1 tag. All the subchapters have an H2 tag. If these subchapters have another sub-area then this would be marked up with an H3 tag and so on. Having a clear hierarchy in your heading tags will make it more user friendly. Search engines might also understand better which parts of the content are connected to each other and which are separate because of this. I am using ranking reports from BrightLocal. Brightlocal gives you ranking reports that check your ranking by keywords like this: Google    Google+Local    Yahoo   Yahoo Local   Bing   Bing Local So apparently, there are multiple ways to rank in Google 1. Go to Google.com and type something in. 2. Go to this url https://plus.google.com/local and type something in 3. Go to maps.google.com For regular Google search. my client isn't in the top 50 for keyword search "dentist Oxnard CA" For Google+Local, client is #7 for keyword search "dentist Oxnard CA" Do people even use Google+Local Search? My question was how is it possible to not be in the top 50 for Google search for "dentist Oxnard CA" but be #7 for Google+Local search?

This will bring people back to you website or maybe not if the content is boring. Create a good tile  "How to fix a pipe with your eyes closed" with good meaningful info. Unfortunately, Google may continue to keep those pages in its index for months, even if they return a 404. The 2 best options in these cases is usually: Claim the profile in GWT - which would probably be possible but requires a lot of work with Godaddy configuring the subdomains just so you could claim the profile and de-index. I haven't tried it, but Google introduced a URL removal tools for URLs you don't controll. Might be a good use case here. Hopefully this will help: Login to GA and click Acquisition --> All Referrers This report will show all websites that sent traffic to you in the time period you have set in Analytics. Click the Ecommerce or Goals tab at the top of the list and it should give you conversion data for your referrers. Just let us know if we've misunderstood what you're looking to achieve.

Just like having a blog on your site, old blog posts are still "worth it" to keep as old blog posts. If there's enough content on a page that's related to the past event, then I would keep that event page so it remains in the index. You're adding new content to your site, and perhaps adding photos from the event or other text/copy about the event would help and be useful to users who look at it after it's happened. If you have photos, then next year you can provide a link to last year's event, and that might be useful in future promotions of the event. If it's an event that happens around the same time every year (it's an annual event), then you might want to create a unique page or pages on the site just for that event. People search for the names of specific events in certain locations (i.e., New Orleans Mardi Gras) and you might be able to rank in the search results for that event name. In that case, I would probably not specify the year on the event page: or simply update the page every year with the latest info and the date of the event. If this is an event calendar and there's not going to be a lot of content on the event listing, then you might actually run into duplicate content issues or potentially Google "panda-like" issues for having a lot of low quality content on the site. You may want to go ahead and remove those old event listings and only keep current, future listings on the event calendar.

I would approach directory link building, as with any other form of linking, as a way to attract new traffic to your site.  Pursue a link opportunity, not because it will provide link juice to your site, but rather, drive an engaged consumer who will ultimately convert.  The goal is all about getting more traffic to your site, not to rank on Google/Bing, right? I manage 5 national brands with over 900 locations across the US.  Our link profile is heavily weighted on directories that are both popular and industry specific.  This helps drive a very large amount of visitors to our pages that ultimately become a lead.  We don't go after a directory listing unless it will deliver a visitor who will fill out a form or call.  otherwise, what's the point?

"I really can't be arsed giving every single site it's own full SEO treatment :)" Being honest, without putting major effort into each site, I doubt you'll be able to dominate an entire SERP for even a medium competition keyword for a decent length of time. As has been mentioned below, there have been efforts by Google to tone down results from the same entity (admittedly, to varying success) but it feels like for the work that is involved, you may as well spend the time building a single site and marketing that one really, really well so that it stands the test of time. I'm not really sure what you mean by link blocking to be honest, but if you want to clarify, I'd be happy to follow up. Cheers. Paddy

Moz does have a list of recommended agencies that's a good place to start looking. If I were you, I would look for bay area companies and then call them with your questions about specific types of sites.

Hi Panos, I don't necessarily disagree with Eric's answer, but I wanted to answer from a different point of view. I'm going to assume you really want or need some refresh mechanism built into the page. In which case I'd agree that a Javascript approach using AJAX is probably a better solution. It will mean that users only need to load the new article headlines, and not the whole page, so the strain on your servers should be reduced. Furthermore, I find it a neater solution all around anyway - you could provide a notice 'new headlines available' that people click to refresh the articles list. This might be the best of both worlds? Either way, meta refresh isn't as flexible, isn't as clean, and will put more strain on your servers. Good luck! -Tom

Hey Ken, Thanks for following up. You can add a crawl delay for rogerbot in your robots.txt file to limit how quickly we make requests to the site. I would just recommend that you don't add a crawl delay higher than 10 because that can cause us to be unable to crawl the site in a reasonable amount of time to complete a full crawl.
