  • This is Google rebranding the hybid campaigns, and updating their algorithms for when you opt into both search and display in one campaign.  I asked my Adwords rep about it, and he said we definitely do not want to try this having already set up campaign structures with Search and Display campaigns separately.  Adwords best practices is still to run your Search and Display campaigns separately.  Just thinking of having both in one campaign gives me a headache, because they're completely different animals.  I'd set up a search campaign, clone it, and set the clone to display.  This will make it 100x easier to tell what's going on at a glance in the campaigns. I don't think a display campaign on its own would perform differently from the display generated from a Display Select campaign, although I haven't tested it so I can't be sure.

  • Can you explain why?  I've looked around a lot on this, and there doesn't seem to be much agreement about it.  https isn't costing anything with respect to performance, so why not do it? I'll happily remove it from all the pages where it isn't required if its really making a difference.

  • I fully agree about the links warpath. My point is that in my opinion you are at far greater risk from trying to hide the nature of the interconnected sites with machinations on hosting, IP addresses etc, than to simply legitimately link them. Any attempt to artificially pass significant ranking influence between these related sites is bound to be caught by Google eventually because there are just too many signals available for Google to spot. While I'm unwilling to say "never" where Google's algorithm is concerned, I would say a legitimate, natural interlinking between these sites is BY FAR the safest approach, compared to the alternatives. The only safer way would be not to interlink at all. I do feel your pain. Google is playing with people's livelihoods with these inaccurately applied penalties, whether algorithmic or manual. Paul

  • Hi Jeroen, I'd be very careful about placing sitewide links on all your client sites that point back to you site. This could easily end up hurting you. Here's an example where WPMU.org was hit because they were doing something similar - http://moz.com/blog/how-wpmuorg-recovered-from-the-penguin-update. I think the best thing for you to do is add a "nofollow" tag to all the links from your clients' sites that point to your site. This should help protect you and then moving your site over to Server A won't be a problem either. Hope this helps. Tim

  • Hi Reda, Not exactly. Google doesn't determine rankings just by looking at how well optimized a site is for individual words. They look at many other factors both on and off the site, so it's really hard to say why you're ranking slightly higher for one. To be honest, I wouldn't stress over individual keyword rankings too much. You'll end up driving yourself insane. With so much personalization in search results today, what you see in search results isn't necessarily what someone else will see. I think its better to look at overall trends and just make sure you're moving in the right direction. Tim

  • Daniel, I've worked on a few site migrations, and it does take some time for rankings to pick back up. One recent one that I worked on took about 3-4 weeks to get relatively close to where rankings were pre-migration. As long as you're positive you used 301 [permanent] page to page redirects and not 302s, the rankings should eventually get back to where they were. If you tweaked any of the titles from what they were previously, that could also have something to do with it. I would also hold off on creating a lot of geographical and genre landing pages that weren't there previously. Let Google have some time to crawl the site as it is without needing to constantly index more content. In the meantime, it may be worth working on getting some fresh links to the new site while the redirects/rankings fully take. Give it some time. Good luck!

  • Thanks for taking a look, yesterday out of desperation to understand what was happening I replaced the text on my site with an image to see what, if anything, changes. I have reported it to Moz, and they agree it looks odd.

  • Hi Guy, Edmond has give some thoughtful feedback. The one suggestion I would be careful of is the one in which a central device at an office is being used to encourage reviews. If reviews stem from the same IP address (known as a review kiosk) they are likely to be flagged by Google as spam, so that is not something I would recommend. I would also be careful about offering incentives for reviews. Google's stance on this has been very strange, and is worth researching. Beyond this, though, having print materials to hand to the client at the time of service is a great idea, as is educating key members of the staff to request reviews. Whitespark has a great, free handout that you can brand with your own company logo that gives directions for leaving a Google+ Local review. You'll find it here: http://www.whitespark.ca/review-handout-generator/ *Just remember, the one review platform on which you cannot ask for reviews is Yelp. Their guidelines forbid soliciting reviews in any way. Additionally, if you have good customers who simply are not going to go on the Internet to leave you a review, but who would be happy to give you a hand written testimonial, you could get them to write you one at the the time of service, or in a follow up email, and you can turn these into testimonials you post on your website. You can use Schema review markup to encode these reviews, giving you a chance that Google will display stars on your results in the search engine results. This is a good solution for customers who are not tech savvy. Remember, no business needs to earn a huge number of reviews all at once. A little, slow trickle of them over time is a much better signal than a whole bunch at once. Here's a post I like, by Phil Rozek, about Google+ Local reviews. I think you might like it, too: http://www.localvisibilitysystem.com/2013/04/04/the-complete-guide-to-google-pluslocal-reviews-and-especially-how-to-get-them/ Hope this helps!

  • Hey Alessio, Few things to consider Domain Authority is low. Love to see few more back-links (Just 4 Links at moment) Meta Description of Home Page is too short. It should be around 100 to 160 Characters. Run Moz Audit and check other pages as well Love to see more social shares. Try to share your pages on Google Plus, Twitter, Facebook. Use tags to get pages shared by others This will help! Regards
