Linking out to relevant resources
Feel absolutely free to link out as often as you like to as many sources, as long as those sources are high-quality. I personally do not recommend nofollowing links "just in case" they are spammy in the future; the vast majority of the links you create will be to sites that will never suffer a spam problem (and if you are ever worried, perform a check on your site's outbound links once or twice a year). As Anirban says, a site that links out to trustworthy sites makes itself look more trustworthy in return. A very simplistic way of looking at this is that spam websites link to spam websites and to trustworthy websites. Trustworthy websites _only _link out to other trustworthy websites. So while you're not giving the sort of positive signal that likely results in improved rankings, you are failing to give a negative signal. If the links are user-generated, place a nofollow tag on them, but if they are editorial and added by you because you appreciate the resource, you can do this as often as you like (within reason, still don't create massive pages with thousands of outbound links!).

Can cookies harm your webiste?
The instruction in the audit template is probably given to give you a 100% true view of what Google sees when it comes to the website, unobstructed by things meant for humans like cookies, javascript, etc. As Stephen says, Google traditionally does not accept cookies or execute javascript, or do a lot of things that are meant for usability (but may take some of this into account if it's being used for malicious purposes). This is not about whether cookies are "harmful" and you are not being instructed to turn off cookies on the website itself. You are being instructed to disable your browser from accepting cookies so you get an idea of what Google's experience on the website is like. Edited to add - posts like this are being shared, literally today, so keep an eye on the Google-accepting-cookies issue, but for the purpose of the site audit, it's just wanting to let you see what Google traditionally sees.

Shoing strong for last 2 years for search terms NOW GONE! What happened?
Well, I removed the suspect content, and after 2 weeks, nothing. Then I added Google Authorship to each page, and the NEXT DAY the site is back in the top positions for our target terms, and the leads are pouring in. Was it the Google Authorship? It certainly felt like it. But I thought that was not a ranking factor. Anyway, thanks for all the support! BB

This page could be penalized as keyword stuffing?
I think you should reduce the use of the word "video". 65 times it's a lot of times! Good luck on this.

Monthly Data Option not appearing in Moz AGAIN
Our engineers are working on improving how custom reports are scheduled but it won't affect when the data is collected as that will depend on the campaign creation date. The best day to create a custom monthly report will be either on the 4th or 5th of the month as all monthly collections for the previous month are available by the 4th. So currently the system will schedule the report based on the day it was created which means if you set one up on the 10th of the month, it will generate on the 10th the next month, but once the data is available by the 4th you can always manually export the report at anytime.

Videos on duplicate content editing
Hi By, Thank you for your response. I will keep this info in mind. My main issue was interpreting the issues that came up on the web crawl. I am in the process of researching how to fix the issues. thanks again. It appears much of the dup content issues revolve around links/URL's tied to terms I tagged in blog articles on the site (I am editing this site in Wordpress). A couple of the dup content issues are related to primary pages (one being the primary URL for the blog itself). We recently changed some things around on the sitemap so hopefully that will help.

Real-time social results?
Hi Christine, We don't have those real-time capabilities, unfortunately. I'm on the community team, and we also use external tools for our daily management of Twitter (currently Exact Target/Cotweet, but are looking for alternatives).

How long for authority to transfer form an old page to a new page via a 301 redirect? (& Moz PA score update?)
I wouldn't get too hung up on the Moz timeline, since that's only correlated with what Google does, to build a broader model. If Google has crawled/cached the 404 and the page actually is no longer in the index, then that page should stop inheriting and passing link equity. It can get complicated, because sometimes 404s have inbound links and other issues tied to them that can confuse the crawlers. So, I'd say it's situational. Moz (specifically, OSE) can help you determine what links still exist to those URLs, which really should guide whether you let them stay 404s or 301-redirect them to something relevant. The other aspect of the decision is just whether something relevant exists. If you clearly have built a page to replace the old one then 301-redirect it. If the old page is something that ceased to exist for a reason, then a 404 is probably fine unless that old page had a ton of inbound links. In that case, the 404 has essentially cut off those links. The problem is that those inbound links are still out there, so it's not that the authority has ceased to exist. It's that you've basically cut the pipe through which the authority flows.

Multilingual site making new URLs, how to preserve SEO juice?
Well yes, I know, I wouldn't have done it myself this way for many more reasons, but that's how I acquired the site and now I'm going through fixing and optimizing things. Amazingly is, that my tiny optimizations had already a huge impact on visitor stream, especially with users noticing them Alone bringing the Pagespeed from like 60% to >90% did increase user activity as also search results already by a 20-30% and revenue by 50% in less than 2 weeks! I can only suggest anyone to make a site speedy! Anyway... back to topic! Well, in the case I would not have a page under /, I would of course had choicen either /de/ or /en/ to redirect to with 301 or 302, when visitors would have reached the home page. But the more I think about it and after the thoughts I had previously on my post to Jane (which hers was also a great help, same as yours!) I think the best results might be really achieved by keeping the homepage as it is. Just not sure yet, if I should add to the home page a x-default hreflang attribute or maybe none at all? Or maybe one for each language? I thought even about doing a small test maybe first with other pages under the domain and protocol the results, before going after the home page, which is the one bringing in nearly all traffic. Well, things seem now a lot more clear of what to do and what to avoid and I believe I can figure out a way now to make it work Thanks everyone!
