  • I agree do 301 to each page and get people to the new site. Overtime they will learn the new site domain and you will gain new links to the new site. I just did the same thing and merged an older well ranking site into a new site a year ago, & did a bunch of 301 redirects from good high ranked pages and then I also did full global 301 from several smaller sites to the new site.

  • Hey There, I am so sorry you ran into this issue with the API. Due to an incredibly heavy traffic volume on the Mozscape index, one of our servers crashed, causing an outage in the tools that pull data from the index. The issue has been fixed and you should be able to access the tool with no issues now. Please give that a try and let us know if you need any other assistance. Chiaryn

  • Hi Surabhi, it sounds like you are looking at one the Moz Analytics reports. If so, which one are you looking at specifically? (A screenshot would be extra helpful, but knowing what tool/report you are using will help me best answer your question.) I'm also not sure what you mean by the following question: "But I want know that my some keywords are targeted with other urls but got ranked in top 50  with different urls, how it is?" When you say "got ranked in top 50 with different URLs", are you referring to your own URLs (for pages that aren't optimized for the keywords that are ranking, or competitors URLs?

  • Some good responses already. I would add that if you're not already segmenting your audience then you definitely should be to make sure you're measuring the 'real' performance. For example, if in your 180k subscriber list, you have 90k people who haven't placed an order in 90 days and 10k customers who order with you every month then your open rates within the 'engaged' proportion of users will be swamped by the staleness of the rest of the list. Subscriber lists grow with growing businesses, and naturally develop dead wood so churning out the same sorts of emails means the stats can gradually over time decline. You can combat this by (very simply) segmenting your 'active' base from your inactive base - by all means send them the same email but track their stats separately. Then when you start to invest in your emails, you'll be able to see if your active base are affected, rather than them all being lumped together with any increases/decreases in the performance of key sections of your customer base being concealed. Finally in terms of email performance, I would use CTR/open rate purely as informative, because really it's revenue and margin that matter to the business.

  • In that case, use a canonical url and you should be fine. Have the canonical point to the page with no query string on it. You had me worried, I thought you might have a platform that needed the parameters to show products, then you mentioned you took them out in GWT. I have seen clients do that on the platforms that need the query strings and de-index all of their product pages.

  • One easy way that I've found to help with pagespeed is with cloudflare's free subscription. It does a lot to speed up your site, such as auto minifying, css, html and javascript. It also caches your pages and greatly reduces server response times. It also does some other stuff and offers security features which is another benefit.

  • Google reps have said that the data from GA isn't used for ranking, and have specifically called out bounce rate as a very noisy metric. There are several good references in this Search Engine Roundtable post at http://www.seroundtable.com/google-bounce-rate-attacks-16203.html.

  • Most plumbing companies just can't devote the resources to rebrand. What you said was a permutation of what I said, so I can't disagree. Though getting a smaller business to rebrand is terribly difficult. We all know the benefits. But are there any tactics you know of that would help?

  • This is a pretty thorough outline of what you need to do: http://moz.com/blog/web-site-migration-guide-tips-for-seos My steps are usually: Identify pages that get significant organic traffic by pulling the Organic Traffic report in Google Analytics for the past year or so. Identify pages that have a significant number of links (or, have links from high traffic sources) in Open Site Explorer. Map where that content should be now, and 301 redirect to new pages. Completely remove all old pages from the index by 404ing them and making sure that no links on new pages point to old pages. Sounds quick and simple, but this definitely takes time. Good luck!

  • Hi Noah, There could be many reasons for your videos not being played. Unfortunately with Facebook engagement, it's somewhat of a Catch-22 in that the more engagement you get, the more people Facebook shows the post to get more engagement. This can be very frustrating. Your videos could not be showing because your past videos hadn't gotten any engagement. Facebook should show you how many people have seen your post and then how many have engaged with it. One thing to know about it is that Facebook had some errors in its engagement numbers in June. If your followers are seeing the posts, but not watching the videos, then it's likely for whatever reason your videos aren't resonating with your audience. Some things to consider: Who are your videos aimed at? Are they the right tone for that demographic? Are they too sales driven? Are the videos you sharing widely available elsewhere? Did they already see them in other places? Have you considered user-generated videos to engaged the audience with itself? Hope this gives you a good start.

  • Okay. Thanks for the help. Will do that. Not for all pages (that's why we have a feed; around 100K products), but at least for the items that matter to us...
