  • What a great discussion going on here on this one! Love our community:) My thoughts on this are: I agree with Donna's suggestion of seeking legal advice on this before you begin using another brand's name on your website. If you are legally advised that it's okay to do so, then the comparison model is a legitimate topic for content development. Explaining the differences between your organization and that of your better known competitor will be educational for parents and guardians considering their local options for youth sports. This will be good information for them to have. I would suggest approaching this very mindfully and with full transparency that your organization is completely separate from Pop Warner and has no affiliation with this organization. Your strategy must have education as its basis in order to avoid the totally unwanted outcome of local parents deciding you are trying to trick them into thinking your organization is anything other than what it truthfully is - that's certainly not going to be the start of a happy relationship! After all, what you really want here is for your organization to build up a brand that earns local recognition as a wonderful option for youth sports. You don't want to build Pop Warner's brand - you want to build your own.

  • Ok - I was courageous and undid the changes from the last two days to a version where the ranking was pretty good.Within 1,5 hours the site ranked as good as before Thanks for your help guys. Cannot say exactly what it was. Sandbox-effect? Cheers Marc

  • We're in the same predicament here on the other end of I-4 (Clearwater).  Technology proficients in our area are slim pickings.  Here's a few things we've done that has worked well in the past: (1) Documentation - Document your SEO procedures and utilize a system for maintaining all your work (so it's scalable).  We use Access07, for managing implementations, history from Dmoz and citation history and effort - kept on a server and accessed remotely via logmein or vpn.  That way you can manage effort and results on a scalable platform.  We have a solid on-boarding process that can get new folks performing great SEO within a week. (2) Locally - Hire experienced admins that are really good at researching online, being creative with data and good with Excel.  We generally give a short homework assignment to qualified candidates to test their speed and creativeness. (3) Remotely - Hire employees from outside the area to telecommute.  We've hired out of Atlanta and NC, which are both relatively cheap airline tickets and short flights for necessary "day trips" to the office. If you've done #1 well, the rest is teachable.  Besides, you want folks who will SEO your way (which works for you and your clients) and not broken or trained improperly by somebody else.

  • I would go with option 3 Alex. If you want to have most of your visibility aimed at Germany, then it makes sense to have the primary content on here and then have a site.com/en for the rest of the world. There is no reason to redirect everyone as soon as they get to you if you still have a primary audience. -Andy

  • Great response, thank you. In short, .nl .com and such dont make a huge difference in ranking. but probably in CTR due to the fact that a english user is in basis not trusting, or not preferring the .nl domain over a .com. Although this is nowadays less important but still the case. Splitting 2 domains would split the DA as well. thats true. Hard decisions.

  • That makes a lot of sense - it's kind of what I figured: videos don't help you rank better by themselves. I feel like the claim, "Having an explainer video on your web page makes it 53% more likely to show up on the first page of Google search results" is definitely misleading. As an explainer video company, we want to understand these things and provide more clarity to our clients up-front regarding Video + SEO.

  • Before using all the content from the site, I'd suggest that you run it through a plagiarism checker. Many turnkey sites use the same content in addition to using the same photos in their templates. That could be part of the reason for the poor performance of the existing site. If it's already duplicated content, then you're better off re-writing those pages from scratch.

  • Thanks Marcus, Your Answer is really helpful. I have read a few of the pagination articles and agree they all say you don't need it 100%, but I needed some extra help understanding the issue. I think in this case no following secondary pages would be best because the content might look duplicated. When I do a inurl:dir site search I get back searchers indexing "high/low price" "most/least reviewed" etc. for products so that could be the issue there. Again thanks for your in depth response to help clear up my issue. -Reed

  • I am using AdWords remarketing, and I tested AdRoll retargeting between April and May this year. At the time I did some research (but I don't have the links at hand), my understanding is AdWords coverage is 65% of the web, AdRoll (which include Facebook and other sources) reach 99% of the web. That should give you an estimate of the overlapping. If you activate both, AdRoll retargeting and AdWords remarketing, for the overlapping portion they will compete with each other and rise your bid/spending, which is something you really don't want. That's why you should either exclude AdWords from Adroll or test disabling AdWords remarketing all together. When we tested AdRoll we did because we wanted to broad the audience, and we wanted to test how good AdRoll was at retargeting on Facebook. In fact we also tested retargeting on Facebook, directly using Facebook Ads. The conclusion of the tests where not good. CPA was much higher with AdRoll than AdWords, between 5X and 10X, was also significantly higher when compared to the Facebook ads we ran by ourselves. CTR of the AdRoll ads (when compared to AdWords remarketing) was extremely good, between 3% and 5%, but CR was horrible. AdRoll sales people and support was incredibly nice, but the numbers where poor, and after 4 weeks testing we stopped using AdRoll. When checking AdRoll dashboard be sure to understand the difference between ViewThroughConversions and ClickThroughConversions, admirably AdRoll clearly list conversions as such in the dashboard (Facebook is hiding that behind few clicks in the settings of the campaign), but in the same dashboard the CPA is calculated solely on the base of the ViewThroughConversions, yet if you ask the support they will change that, but you can't do it by yourself (at least at the time was not possible).

  • Has this feature been added yet?  We've had our account for 2 years.  Is there something we need to do to be able to run historical reports with custom date ranges?  Since we did not schedule reporting, if we can access this historical data today, then our entire subscription will have been good for nothing.

  • Bricegump & Laurean both have great insight to provide on location targeting. It's best to test different types of geo targeting & whole location targeting. There will be people who are not opted in to accept cookies and will still be searching. So terms like "web design Surrey" are good to target the whole nation, then "web design" is a better term to focus in on at the more geo-specific level in a separate campaign. Of course, head terms like "web design" are still a bit vague and you will likely see a quality score decrease, but I'm sure you were just suggesting it as an example Display network is absolutely worth it for small businesses! My first job was a lead gen position at a small business and display worked better for us than search (we were advertising on medical terms). I would arm yourself with some persona research first so you know what areas to target and set up very specific banner ads to preemptively engage those viewers. However, I have seen the GDN prices rising recently, so be cautious with your budgets.

  • OSE doesn't have the resources to crawl as deeply as AHREFs, Majestic, etc., so the index is smaller. Get your backlinks from multiple sources for the best picture.

  • Disavowing the entire domain seems like the safest thing to do, because there may be other links that haven't caught my attention yet.  If Google doesn't require the exact location, then I think this is what I will do.
