  • Google Tag Manager is a great tool that almost anyone can begin to use easily. Before GTM, webmasters used to have to pay for similar services, but now Google has given us a tool for free. Tags are pieces of code, for example the Google Analytics javascript snippet that allows use to track visitors and populates your Google Analaytics data. Many plugins and website features are delivered through tags. More examples would be slideshows (nivo slider), share buttons (add this), link & event tracking (google analytics event tracking), conversion pixels (affiliates, goal conversions), javascript/css files, and many more. One of the biggest issues is that a robust website (hell, even simple websites) begins to have many tags added to a page to deliver all the desired functionality. Those tags begin to bloat a web page, decrease page load speed, and cause usability problems. In addition, it becomes very difficult to properly manage all those tags at a large scale. The Google Tag manager provides a central location to add and manage all of these tags easily. You can specify when tags should be added to a page, when they should fire, and other important rules to optimize the placement and execution of these tags. GTM takes this even further and allows us to easily manage additional functionality through the interface, such as the link and event tracking mentioned above. I highly recommend that you learn how to use the GTM and its benefits. Here is a wonderful guide that OptimizeSmart put together for the GTM. http://www.optimizesmart.com/google-tag-manager-implementation-guide/

  • We are excited at the prospect of being able to put up multiple languages, at both the cost and effort level that your company describes. But a couple of specific concerns that we need addressed before we could try the service is the potential for incurring Google penalties for both duplicated content and auto-generated content. Can you provide some detailed insight as to how your service has addressed those issues?

  • Ivor, i think i counted correctly: above the content main section right next to your own ad (which Google also counts as Ad) Mid content in between the audi's (the page i looked) at the bottom of the left side bar. So you actually have 5 ad blocks on your site. Then again, the first ad block should not be that high on the page. Delete the above the content one, and the bottom left sidebar one and add some content before using the block next to your own ads. That might work for you. But at this moment you are violating Google's policy on using ads (IMHO) I would defiantly add more content, more text less ads. Maybe 1 or 2 ad blocks on at least a 1000 words ? I never measured a ratio that works. Maybe a good idea to do that sometime. As for the errors, can you give a few examples of the pages that are duplicate, I will look into it a bit further. Regards Jarno

  • Hi Vasily, You've received some great feedback here from the community and nice of fellow Canadian Jim Rudnick for letting us know he hasn't seen 7-packs in months. I digress here, but in the US, I am still not only seeing 7-packs for dental searches but am also seeing major directories outrank them organically. Ah - the fun of Local SEO! Basically, I agree with what Brady has written. With their 3 or 7-pack display ranking up top, they are showing you what they think is best for customers and best for Google. Getting this to change is unlikely, though a major algo change on Google's part in 2015 could, of course, throw all of this out the window For now, your best bet is to be able to achieve consistently good visibility in the packs-n-stacks in your area.

  • David, Great to hear that your rankings are improving - I was looking at the above comments with Hutch and I noticed you mentioning that your competitors are creating backlinks on their clients' sites even after services have been rendered. It's a tactic I have come across before and while it technically isn't "illegal" I do believe there is something "unethical" about it. That being said, with new algorithm updates coming from Google I expect this will backfire on them within a year or so - having multiple links from a single domain is not as powerful as a diverse link profile. In regards to future link-building endeavors, definitely try out Link Prospector - with some dedication and focus I can create about 10-15 links to relevant websites within an hour. Remember not to over do it, as forming too many links (I put the number as higher than 15/month although some would argue higher or lower). It is a paid tool, but if you are only handling a few websites there aren't many better in-depth link search tools I have used for the cost. In terms of forum access, I believe you have access to the forums regardless of if you have a subscription. However, you are only allowed to read which I find isn't as powerful as being able to address specific questions directly to knowledgeable individuals. I treat it a bit like a consultation firm for SEO services - if there is something I need a specific answer to, this forums beats simple Google searches any day of the week. Hope your SEO endeavors continue to bear fruit! Best, Rob

  • Yeah i agree with Hutch42, aim to create content which is high quality and people will genuinely want to link to it. The blog would also allow you to target the content much more effectively. Do some keyword research and figure out what kind of things people are searching for in your industry and create some unique content around this.

  • Thanks Steve! Yes, I totally agree. There are so many options out there for tagging and tracking. Personally, I prefer to leave it up to Google unless I'm tracking the information elsewhere (of course unless you're working with Bing, then you definitely need it!). Steve, do you tag all of your URLs even when they just go directly to GA from AdWords? When would you recommend using any manually tagged parameters? Thanks for chiming in!!

  • I would prefer some more details- which keywords, why do you chose them, higher rankings means what? Two, Three or 20 Positions? How often is it searched and how much klicks do you have. Whats the Keyword trend? Maybe the chosen Keyword is wrong, maybe the topic isn't as hot as last year, maybe its an ugly search snippet ...

  • Hi Jacob! Okay, great. So, you can have 1 Google+ Local page per physical location. You cannot have them for towns you serve where you are not physically located - that would be a guideline violation. It's perfectly fine to link from a Google+ Local page to a respective landing page on the website instead of to a homepage. In fact, this is generally considered a good practice when you have multiple locations as it may reduce the risk of Google accidentally merging your listings. Hope this helps!

  • MGordon, This is patently untrue. We have clients who change locations and we do not change the website/content/etc. Yes, you need to make sure the NAP is clean for the new location, and make sure the website has the new info and not the old, but there is no other website change needed. Best

  • Thanks!  This is pretty much what I thought but thought I would check.  Google is using all Caps for some words in other Site Links so my guess is it is somewhere on the site in the anchor text. Much Appreciated!

  • On that spreadsheet, in column A you will see the URL with the redirect. Column G is "Temporary Redirect" and those should be TRUE (on the 302 redirect report). Column AK is Redirect URL and it is there that you will see the page that the page in column A is redirected to. Are you looking for something other than this?

  • I would advice to put everything on one page. (This is also great for a broad keyword) Then have short descriptions in there the a link to a specific page for each service. (Specific targeted keywords)

  • Domain and Page Authority were created by Moz (formerly SEOmoz). I would not trust anyone elses number on that. From what you have here, you have a website for a company that for all intents does not exist and it is in one of the most unscrupulous areas of the Internet... Loans.  I think the issue is likely somewhere within that. Best
