Hello! Sam from Moz's Help Team here! So -  after being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. However, there are a lot of factors which can affect our ability to find and index links to your site. It's important to note that we are always adding new data to our index, but it may take some time for us to discover backlinks to your site based on factors like crawlability of the referring pages, quality of the links and the referring pages, and more. If you are not seeing links that you know you have, you may want to make sure that they can be indexed. It is also a good idea to check to see if we've indexed the page on which that link is found. If we haven't indexed the referring page yet, you won't see your link in our index. You can also add links to Link Tracking Lists. Once you add a link to your tracking lists we will add that page to be crawled. As long as it is accessible to our crawler, you should see the link in our index as soon as we can index those pages. Lastly, I have a great guide here with some things to check around why we may not have found your links yet: https://moz.com/help/link-explorer/link-building/moz-isnt-finding-your-links If you'd like any further information, please feel free to pop us an email over at help@moz.com. We do also have a great guide to Domain Authority just here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority

Hi, No, MOZ does not have any option to disavow links and you should not be worried about disavowing links in Moz. Instead, disavow them from the Google Search Console because Google is the search engine that ranks your site according to proper linking.

Hi, Great question, Link Explorer and the Links tab of Moz Pro Campaigns are both tied to our Link index, which is constantly updating. After being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. When discovered or lost links are found, we'll update our database to reflect those changes in your scores and link counts. We prioritize the links we crawl based on a machine learning algorithm to mimic Google's index. This does not mean that DA and PA will change with every data update, though; it will only change if we find new link data for a respective site. I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly when your DA will update it depends on when we find new equity passing backlinks to your site. You can read more about our new Link Explorer tool and our index here. You can also read more about how our Link index compares with our competitors here https://backlinko.com/best-backlink-checker Feel free to reach out to help@moz.com with any further questions

Hi snjaoieiw, To get a detailed answer from Moz staff on what DA is, you might consider searching the Q&A forum. In short, though, it is a Moz metric (not a Google or Bing metric) that takes into consideration the number (and quality) of backlinks your website has. That said, have you been working on building up high quality backlinks? -Zack

  • Hi Jim, Is this really a problem? With limited resources, what real positive effect will making all these images have unique title tags really have from a SERP perspective? Yes it will help, giving descriptions for your images can also help visually impaired people. I would name all my images, however if theres other content on these pages that are duplicate such as URL string I would recommend adding a canonical code, this will help you avoid duplicate content penalties. This should help: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=139394

  • Hi! I'm on a trial membership of pro and trying to do the same thing. My site has nearly 5000 links but the report is downloading 370. Is this because of trial membership? Thanks! James livefit.co.uk

  • Hi Jeremy, Good question - in the crawl diagnostics, the number of links is the number of links from your page to other pages - these links can be both internal and external. It's a measure of the total number of links on your page, and tries to show how the value of your page gets diluted through your various links. The next two columns, of page authority and linking root domains, tries to show the strength of the page in question. Linking Root Domains is the number of root domains pointing in to that page. I believe it includes both internal and external - thus, a page with 1, usually means it's only being linked to internally. On this particular crawl test, number of links is the number of OUTGOING links on the page crawled, whether those are linking to another page on your site or to external domains. Page authority is a measure of the strength of your page, on a scale of 1-100, and linking root domains is the number of domains pointing to your site. They show you the strength of the page because if the page is strong, though there are more links on the page, this may still be ok, because the page is stronger and has more juice to spread across the site/web. • Thank you, That's probably what's happening. I thought changing the slug etc would just cause the database to be updated. All good. Thank again.

  • One way I use it is for ideas of types of links I might be able to get for my husband's business (selling model RC warships). There are only a couple of competitors for the fiberglass ship hulls in the US, so I look at their backlink profile. Just this evening I was browsing through, and saw that my competitor had a link from a crew website for people who had served on a certain ship, for anyone interested in building a model of that ship. We don't carry the same hull so we couldn't get a link on that page, but we do have about 35 hulls, so there are opportunities for several links from other sites.

  • I have been running reports on linking root domains to compare with competitor sites. In all cases the report download only contains a small subset of the report results. As the results are linking root domains they should all be unique I think? So for example if there are 1,500 linking root domains in the report why are there only 400 (exact number) when I download? For a competitor site there are 3000+ linking root domains and in the download only 300 (exact number) The exact numbers are suspicious and suggest some kind of culling of the full report but I cannot see why this is. How can I download all of the linking root domains?

  • Hi Jason - we do have some continual improvement plans for OSE and for our metrics. Obviously, the Just Discovered links feature was one of the most recent and valuable ones. We also do refactor and recalculate Page Authority/Domain Authority on a regular basis to make them better correlated with changes to Google. On the longer-term horizon, we're planning a webspam metric, and we may be using more data from social and fresh web to improve PA/DA.

  • When you say "drop", what kind of movement are we talking about? Could you give a before/after example without naming the site? The DA/PA algorithm is based on machine learning, so even if the link-graph remained static, it is recalibrated from time to time. Of course, on top of that, the link-graph never stays static. If you're talking about something like 62->60, it probably wouldn't mean much at all. If you're talking about 60->40 and consistently large-scale drops, that would more likely indicate problems with your link-building strategy across all of the sites.

  • It looks like I have done it correctly with the rel canonical.  Open Site Explorer shows it as two different pages.  I suppose that is just the way OSE works. This line: is in the header of both www.mysite.com/ and www.mysite.com/default.asp.

  • Hi! We just updated the toolbars to take care of this problem. Chrome should be ready to download now, and the Firefox toolbar will be ready in a couple of days (their approval process is a little bit longer). Sorry for the troubles!

  • It turns out to be a bit complicated, since DA/PA are based on a machine-learning algorithm. Dr. Matt Peters, our resident data scientist, answered a similar question here: https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/22546573-domain-page-authority-logarithmic

  • When I first signed up I called SEOmoz directly and was told that you could not transfer campaigns between accounts. This was back in December, so things may have changed. I suggest you just give them a call. They are all so super nice and helpful Ashley @ ScriptiLabs

  • that could help but would just shift the issue elsewhere - but it's worth a try. if you'd like a chat in a bit more of a private setting head to my profile and send me a message in private, or go through to the company site and get in touch that way.
