SEO Moz ranking reports
Great answer! I did know about Google personalization but the IPS was new to me. Thanks Egol!

Over 90% of anchor text tends to be brand-name on OSE link profiles. Why?
Thanks Cyrus, you've been incredibly helpful.

How to handle 2 domains pointing to the same server.
Thanks for the response ipullrank, but domains point to the same content. So i took you advice and did the 301. Here is what i used. Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.newdomain.com RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Why is the SEOmoz crawler crawling the old version of our website?
Thanks for the answers guys. @Robert: It is indeed the initial report. Yet I did receive other reports since. Also thanks for suggestion the Screaming Frog tool. The report I get from it will be useful in my discussion with our CRM provider. @Cyrus: I also used URI Valet. I don't understand, the 302 redirects are on picture links. I'll communicate with our CRM provider about that. Also, I don't understand how any of our old URLs could be reached crawling our website as this is a completely new website. No part was transferred over so the shouldn't be any way for the crawler to see our old URLs. Thanks again

On raking reports
In that (obvious and well described case) a middle ground could probably do the trick. Meaning, how about doing it 2 or 3 times a week. That's what Solomon would have done Thanks for the reply Cyrus.

Campaigns - domains / sub domains
You can set up each subdomain on a campaign, or you can set them all up on a root domain campaign. If you choose to set up subdomain campaigns, each will be crawled up to 10,000 pages. Remember, each campaign will use a slot. For most PRO members, you are limited to 5 campaigns. Setup is simple. You can choose either root domain or subdomain on the setup screen, and enter your appropriate URL. More information in the help documentation here. Hope this helps!

Help Understanding Crawl results on this site
The flash intro could be why the crawl data isn't showing up. How many pages are crawled? Here's information from the help desk on some of the issues that affect Moz being able to crawl a site: http://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/409821-why-isn-t-my-site-being-crawled-you-only-crawled-one-page. Others will be able to give better answers than I regarding the link building, but I wanted to get at least part of your question addressed here.

Do we have videos tutorials showing how to use the tools from SEOmoz?
Hi, I'm not aware of individual video tutorials for tools but they do have an excellent webinar series where they go over the tools and you can ask live questions. Go here: http://www.seomoz.org/dp/welcome-webinars You will also see a recorded webinar at the bottom of this page. -Anjon

Why are inbound links not showing up?
Should I suggest my friend build a few links on his blog to the WSJ posting in question? No. If he did then it becomes more of a link exchange which is not the desired outcome. Or, does building links to the page mean that he needs to create a blog elsewhere, make content relevant to Megan McAllister, and build links to the WSJ posting? Most of the time you want all the links you build to be pointed at your site. An undiscovered link from the WSJ is a reason for an exception. You don't want to build a new blog for this purpose as that would be manipulative. Instead, locate other sites which may be interested in this article and let them know about it so they may link to it. One final note. Performing these steps will help the SEOmoz crawler locate the article, but Google already has the page indexed. If you search Google.com for "who is megan mcallister" you will notice the page is the second result.

Why would Open Site Explorer say some internal links are images when in the source code they're text?
Thanks for the interest, Keri. It was a few weeks ago, so it's hard to remember now. I think GWT did mention that anchor text - but I'm not 100% certain. Either way, I asked the webmaster to add alt text to the arrows for each menu item, so we'll see what happens. Aviva

New Backlinks by Week?
I use advanced links manager (I also use linkscape and seo majestic too). Advanced links manager tracks new links from previous update. This data is be available in linkscape too, methinks.

Y!SE and OSE
The truth is, you can trust them all, but every index will always report different numbers. For example, it's estimated that Google's index was 2x the size of Yahoo's. The web is full of links. Billions and billions of them. The problem is that 80% of them are junk. Most indexes maintained by companies like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and even SEOmoz and Majestic can't afford to waste the resources crawling, processing and storing all of those junk links. So the question doesn't become what you keep, what's more important is what you throw away. Yahoo tended to report a lot of links. It was kind of fun because they reported many links right away, even if they weren't important and didn't help you to rank. Linkscape (the name of SEOmoz's index) tries very hard to produce a quality listing of links - links that actually have an effect on crawling, indexing and ranking. The huge advantage of Linkscape over Yahoo is that OSE will actually tell you the value of a link through metrics like Domain Authority, Page Authority and MozTrust. You couldn't get these metrics from Yahoo. Our friends at Majestic wrote a post that we featured on the SEOmoz blog highlighting this difficulty. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-counting-links-is-not-so-easy No index will report every link, but OSE will represent the majority of links that matter, and provide actionable metrics to go along with them.

Link Diagnosis and Open Site Explorer
SEOmoz provides an API of it's Linkscape data that other companies, even individuals can use for their own purposes. Oftentimes companies buy this data and use it in their own reports. Sometimes they use all of the data, sometimes just a portion of it. Unfortunately, there's no good way for me to tell how Link Diagnosis uses the SEOmoz data. To save money and resources, some companies "cache" the data - which works fine as long as they update the cache regularly. I'm not saying this to disparage Link Diagnosis, I simply don't know enough about them. That said, you can be assured that Open Site Explorer always has the latest, freshest and most accurate OSE data. Every time you use OSE, fresh data is served with no long-term caching, so it proves itself a very reliable tool for webmasters.

Open Site explorer (last 1-3 updates) shows new and wierd results
Hi Frederik, Domain Authority is highly correlated with both mozRank and mozTrust, and includes factors from both of these metrics into the final Domain Authority score. Most of the time, a site with both superior Domain MozRank and superior MozTrust will also have a higher Domain Authority, but not all the time. In this instance, I think we are seeing an edge case where Linkscape was reporting funny numbers. In the time since you posted your original question, not only Linkscape has been updated but the way Domain Authority metrics has also been updated for the first time in a couple years. The old Linkscape calculations were accidently including certain types of binary and junk files. If Duft og Natur had a large number of these types of files included in the Index, it could have certainly thrown the numbers off. The end result is more accuracy today. In fact, looks like Netspiren now scores a DA of 45, whereas Duft og Natur scores a 40. Nice!

Ranking Tracking Internal Folders
Hi Ilse, If you are a PRO member, there's a super simple way to do this within the campaign platform. 1. Start a new campaign, and at the very beginning you'll see a screen like this: <fieldset class="setup"> Which parts of your domain would you like to track for this campaign? <label for="campaign_campaign_type_subdomain"> Subdomain</label> Track one subdomain. Examples: www.seomoz.org, guides.seomoz.org, pro.seomoz.org <label for="campaign_campaign_type_rootdomain"> Root Domain</label> Track at root domain level. Track all the different subdomains within this root domain. Example: The root domain seomoz.org has www.seomoz.org, guides.seomoz.org, and pro.seomoz.org all as subdomains within the root domain. If we discover pages on any of the subdomains during our crawl, they'll be included in the data we display. <label for="campaign_campaign_type_subfolder"> Subfolder</label> Track a specific subfolder. Note that the subfolder path must resolve or we will not be able to crawl the content of that folder. Examples: www.seomoz.org/tools, guides.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-search-engine-optimization </fieldset> 2. Make sure to pick subfolder, the last choice. Then enter the specific folder path for your campaign, like www. domain.com/za This will track rankings for this specific subfolder only. Easy as pie!
