  • It probably can be explained, but sadly not by me!

  • I'd just add one thing. Twitter gets you exposure. If you have created a resource you think might help your audience and you want it to be memorable, you might then want to consider using your domain or a custom, shortened URL.

  • Thanks All - seems as though there is no good answer here, which probably means they control the tabs and won't allow us to change the order...

  • Hi RosemaryB, AFAIK, no - you cannot implement a 301 redirect from an old FB/Twitter profile to your new one. The business should minimize the old profile (remove any unnecessary content) and put up a description/text about the new company's handle/page/twitter. You could also send out an email blast with the updated profile and make sure to check the old accounts for any straggler users that find the old profile and need to be redirected to the new profile.

  • It's pretty hard to say why a page has been been banned from Facebook without actually hearing back from Facebook. Here are a few common reasons why pages get banned (some which obviously don't apply to your brand): Straight up scams Hate or bigoted content, such as neo-nazi groups Running contests through your FB page, not through the approved FB app Running contests to get "likes" to your page Your FB fans reporting your content as spammy or otherwise irrelevant Copyright violations Promotion of the sale of pharmaceuticals Promotion of online gambling without prior permission from FB

  • Hi Sam, Sorry for the late response. If I had to guess...I would look into a after-market shops (Fast and Furious type places) and car clubs. I could see those places having a good following...but, you're right, Joe's Automotive Repair...not so much. Ruben

  • Thanks Tim, I think we probably could put a disclaimer on like you say. Best wishes, Amelia

  • No problem! Also, one other factor is that even if you did know that they didn't pay FB to boost, you don't know if there was a third-party service they used to get likes.

  • At Moz, we're using a software solution called RivalIQ to help track what our competitors are sharing and resharing article shares that are working for them (and relevant to our audience). I really like that they send out easy-to-read emails, and we can quickly set these up.

  • Thanks Keri, Usually we get a few hundred views which isn't bad for relatively technical engineering based post. Its worth bearing in mind and making sure that I am a better citizen than I might otherwise have been before I read this post

  • 1. If your contacts know you enough (you know them personally or they have opt in to your newslettet) you can send them a newsletter type email (with some regular content) and link to yoour facebook to join. This will work if they see your name and recall "yes, I know this enitity" 2. If you are not that close to your contacts, use your email list as remarketing list and advertise on facebook to show your advt (which will ask them to like your facebook page). Even though it is paid, it can be very effective. Not many people realize that their email list has lot of throw away email addresses, email to which no one reads. With this solution atleast you are paying for ads only when your audience engages.

  • Hi Keri, Yes, I figured that out. I only choose the people I can "follow" and message them telling them that I'm into weight loss too and see if they want to do a friend request. Once they're friends then I cultivate a relationship with them, tell them what I do, and do things like offer a free session. I'm still struggling a bit with keeping my integrity. I'm a very honest person and I don't want to mislead people. I'm going to do some facebook advertising too, but this question is about a free strategy.

  • Hi Bigrat, I'm not sure what you mean by this... You can target anyone you like with your marketing efforts - whether it's something they're interested in or not is not something I can answer. Take a look at the Moz blog pages on using facebook for marketing, I'm sure you'll get an excellent strategy out of doing that! My one tip though is to always be honest: people can smell dishonesty even through their computer screens! Good luck, Amelia

  • You could purchase a short domain that represents your company - i.e. hmp.ge Once you have that domain, you could use a service like Bit.ly to use your branded domain to shorten the long URLs If you can't purchase a branded domain, you could always use Bit.ly's or Google's URL shortener to have a recognized shortened URL.

  • I think the spam thing is a real problem. Because the companies been doing it this way for a few months I think I'm may have quite a task ahead of me. I'm hoping that by focussing less on social media and more on SEO I'll be able to draw in a more balanced audience.
