Does the duplicate content on the crawl errors report test content on external websites?
I would slightly disagree with you on one point - the need to check every line. There are high probabilities, given the vastness of the web, of individual lines being found somewhere else. Where duplicate content becomes an issue is if a decent-sized section is found elsewhere or a large proportion of your page is not unique. So for an individual page, maybe checking half paragraphs wouldn't take too long, unless you have to do it site-wide. It hadn't come across Copyscape, so that's helpful for me going forward. Thanks!

What to do with .net version of our domain name?
Hi Kinsana, It's almost always a good idea to start a blog! The more (quality) content you have, the better you will rank. However, I would reconsider your idea for two reasons: First of all, you generally want to concentrate the value of your entire website on one domain. This way your current website will all benefit from the SEO value you build with your blog. I'd therefore put the blog in a subfolder (www.example.com/blog/). I image it could be rather confusing for visitors to have two seperate websites for one company with exactly the same url (apart from the .net/.com obviously). Imagine a visitor landed on your blog via google and returns to your website the next day by typing your adress in the browser. The autocomplete function will send him to the .net version (based on history) and the visitor might not understand why your website seems to be nothing but a blog. If you are going to use two domains, at least make sure it's clear that one is a blog and the other one isn't. Personally I agree with Adam, just redirect the .net to your .com and place your Blog elsewhere. Best of luck! Sven Witteveen Expand Online

How do you build authority for your website ? (after Penguin update)
Hi Jay, You need to add quality content but make sure that this content receives exposure through channels such as social media. To add authority to your site you need to build your link profile up, but you must be very careful when doing this in a post penguin world as link profiles are under more scrutiny than ever. Make sure you focus on quality over quantity and definitely be careful you don't build too many links that have exact match anchor text. You need to focus on drawing people to your site and wanting to read your content to become an authority. I would really work hard at building a strong following on social media channels and I would work hard at building relationships and interaction between you and social influencers/authorities related to your niche. Once you establish such relationships you can then expose them to your content and then this will help gain exposure for your content, as they will hopefully talk about your content, starting discussions related to it and also making their followers aware of it through retweets for example. This will lead to people more people linking to your content and in turn increasing your sites authority. N.B I also think creating a blog for your site and encouraging guest posts from relevant social influencers is a great way to build links and authority for your site as they bring an audience/following with them. Hope this helps give you some ideas for building your sites authority. I would suggest looking at link building Q&As for more excellent ideas from the community. Wordpress blog, transferring .com to .org
Hi Nick! WordPress now offers a site redirect. The only caveat being, your URL structures need to remain the same to go from .com to .org. And I think this costs $12 a year. This is the old way to redirect (its a little more of a hack). And you can also do a guided transfer to the host of your choice through WordPress for $129 if you just want someone to take care of it. Let me know if that does it -Dan

Does it do any damage to post my blogs for marketing community websites on my own website too?
Panda is a ranking reduction that can effect an entire site. It is believed to occur when a site has a lot of duplicate content. So, if you post a lot of duplicate content on your site you should not be surprised to see a ranking reduction occur. You might avoid the problem if you post the content with noindex.... maybe. Also, if you are linking straight to the duplicate on a more powerful site that almost guarantees that your version of the content will be at least filtered.

How to handle product pages with similar information
Hello Jim, Ben's suggestion is typically what I would suggest as well, but I understand you have a situation that is unique to companies that sell parts to items like boats, vehicles, appliances, etcetera... in which case a single product page with variables won't work because you're dealing with completely different skus / part numbers. In this case I like your idea of creating a single landing page and then using the rel canonical tag on the others. This way the other pages are still available to users who need a specific product part number, but search engines can see that these are all URL-variations of the same content. Another, similar option would be to use variables in the URL and instruct Google and Bing to ignore those variables and treat them as if they were the base URL. Example: www.savvyboater.com/store/p/Cover-for-V-Hull-Fishing-Boat-with-Side-Console-O-B-17-X-92-.aspx**?variant=72216P** www.savvyboater.com/store/p/Cover-for-V-Hull-Fishing-Boat-with-Side-Console-O-B-17-X-92-.aspx**?variant=72217P** And this would be the canonical / base URL: www.savvyboater.com/store/p/Cover-for-V-Hull-Fishing-Boat-with-Side-Console-O-B-17-X-92-.aspx That may be a problem from the development side because your standard URL includes the product's unique identifier at the beginning, as in: http://www.savvyboater.com/store/p/**2100**-Cover-for-V-Hull-Fishing-Boat-with-Side-Console-O-B-14-X-74-.aspx An example of a problem that could arise is if you decide to just choose one product to be the main one, as in: http://www.savvyboater.com/store/p/**2100**-Cover-for-V-Hull-Fishing-Boat-with-Side-Console-O-B-14-X-74-.aspx**?variant=72217P** http://www.savvyboater.com/store/p/**2100**-Cover-for-V-Hull-Fishing-Boat-with-Side-Console-O-B-14-X-74-.aspx**?variant=****72216P** But then what happens if 2100 goes out of stock or is removed? Would every other model then be inaccessible at that URL? I'd have to know more about this before helping with that issue, but it may not be a problem at all. You'll have to discuss options with your developers and go from there. Good luck!

Tons of Long-Tail Conversion Terms -- What Should We Do?
What Rand talk about this here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-on-googles-penguin-update Also, Penguin isn't really a penalty. Panda seems more of a penalty. Penguin is more of "you're trying to game the algorithm" and you have those characteristics on your site (or offsite)
