How many words is suitable to use at a title photograph?
Best practices for on-page SEO say that the alt text for an IMG tag should be equal to the keyphrase that the page is optimized for. So if you are optimizing a page for 'blue widgets' then having an IMG with alt text = 'blue widgets' would be good. You may also want to name the image file blue-widgets.jpg (or blue-widgets.png or .gif). It's one of several on-page signals you can send Google that this page is all about blue widgets.

Can un-unique content damage my rankings?
It's probably an "it depends" answer for the ratio, and that's if we actually had access to the algorithm. In the case above, the guy was (and still is) removed from the index. Someone else may come in with studies they have done to give you more of an answer based on their experience in their niche, but there's not going to be one magic number that serves as a cutoff for every site.

Tagging Your Blog Posts - Useful?
Please someone help me and tell me if Im wrong - some time ago some (maybe even now), some websites like technorati or other kind of... were (are?) using tags to categorize posts, so if you wanted to appear under some categories with your freshly added posts, you should have them tagged -> but I tell you, I checked that long time ago, I might be wrong that's why it would be great if someone would add something to this... and if it's the way I mention... was it (is it?) technorati or other sites? However, I like to tag posts as it may be useful for you. You never know if in the future you will want to add section, page or something else on your blog... and tags might help you to easier accomplish it... I still do not need it, so I can't give you any working example... but in my opinion it's good to tag posts. I do that "just in case", as maybe in the future I will need them, or any of plugins will want to use them... and if I have 200-500 posts I will not be happy to go back and add tags to each of them - and im sure there are some good plugins that need post tagging. If users find it useful? Depends... each user is different... however good tags are always helpful and gives something extra... however, sometimes may add "mess"... (I know my answer is a bit messy, but I hope it gives you some answers.. ideas).

External Domain for Company Blog
It depends on the purpose of your blog. I recommend on a separate domain if you want to gain shelf space or for reputation management purposes.if you have a site that already has great domain authority and high PageRank, you could use the blog separately to have value on two different domains. However, if your site is fairly new, i recommend to host it within your company's website as Lewis and Barry say, to use those links and help your main domain.

Different pages with very similar H1's - will I get a penalty?
The tag shouldn't pose a problem. So long as the <title>tags are different and the content of the page itself isn't the same, the similarity of <H1> tags on two pages won't substantially affect those page rankings.</p></title>

Index pdf files but redirecto to site
Thanks for the follow-up ... if it weren't for phrases like The page displayed to all users who visit from Google must be identical to the content that is shown to Googlebot. I'd be quite comfortable with that ... in the meantime, however, I might try some pdf2html conversion tools to see if there is a viable way to present PDF-information on a HTML page and block the PDF link for robots. Regards, Gert

Is this Duplicate Content?
I personally have had less of a problem with robots.txt not being followed by Google than I have had developers muck with the robots.txt file. In my particular case, they would update the development site with information from the live site (as we were adding more content to a database on the live site and they were syncing it). They'd copy over the live robots.txt as well, and suddenly the development site was being indexed. I use Code Monitor for all of my robots.txt files, live or development, so I can be notified when they change. https://www.polepositionweb.com/roi/codemonitor/ I suggest verifying the development site in Google Webmaster Tools. From there, you can request the content to be removed (after you've blocked in robots.txt or used the meta noindex), and you can also use their robots.txt tool to see if there was possibly an error in the file.

Duplicate content via syndication?
Yes Mike, the trick is that whenever someone reposts your article they link back to the original version. That can be embedded in your content, or they will also get that from the in your RSS feed.

Do Older Post Dates Affect Click Throughs From Google ?
Good Idea re the follow up post, I did read somewhere that you shouldn't target the same keywords from two different pages, I wonder if this is true ? If it is then I still have the original issue of missing traffic on a good post because of the date. Maybe I update the original and change the published date.

What are the best reasons not to use Wordpress as a CMS?
Wordpress works great for amateur to medium size clients, anything that needs a solid professional build with data-basing requires something more robust from my point of view.

Dashes / Slashes / Full Spots in Meta Tile.
Thanks for the link Gary. I watched the video on misspellings; http://www.seomoz.org/dp/seomoz-pro-video-tips I think this would be a good way to capture variants of the part number search
