  • Both FlowPlayer and JW Player will do that - they are both very nice, well used, robust players. Check out the sites, they have demos showing you what you can get.

  • I believe that there's a general misconception of what content is. Infact, people tend to think at is a "written content". But it not so. Video and audio (both better with transcripts), photos, graphics (and infographics), and, yes, written posts are all contents. As Adams said, the secret of succes of any enterprise blog happens when it is able to become a relevant and authoritative voice in its market.

  • "99.9% of the time, if a subfolder will work, it's the best choice for all parties." (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/subdomains-subfolders-and-toplevel-domains). Even though this is a post made in 2006, I don't know of any relevant changes that would alter this advice.

  • Yes, it sounds like Google has indexed both copies, so that would be duplicate content.

  • You are never bleeding link equity. Link equity does not ever leave the page if you link out to others. It's more like you are sharing what you have with others. There is no SEO benefit to linking to others in terms of link equity but I believe the engines do pay attention to if you are link hoarding. Being a good member of the community is vital to growing in importance. Look and act like a leader in your space and soon people will regard you as such. Besides, backlinks to others are good ways to build relationships which can get you links later on. That is worth it alone.

  • Spinning content is okay. Don't use snippets, reword! Rewrite the content on your existing pages first instead of creating new ones.

  • 1. If you only want the .PT indexed and the .COM already has pages indexed then you should do 301 redirects for each and every page on the .COM that has been indexed and then make all the others noindex, nofollow in the robots meta tag. 2. If you are just redirecting the whole .COM domain to the .PT domain then do the 301 redirects of the pages that are cached/indexed by the search engines and then remove all the pages from the .COM server which would save you having to add the noindex tags to all the pages(but will affect point number 3 below). 3. If your target market is only in Portugal then by all means implement the redirects and leave it as is - but if you are going to expand to target other countries then you might want to think about either having different content on each of the domains which are specific to that country. 4. What about language? I'm assuming your target market is Portoguese speaking and the .PT domain contains content in that language? 5. What I think you should do is have your content on the .COM and have different sections for which country the user is in(or which language they select) - this can be detected with some simple coding by a developer. Hope this helps a bit

  • First of all, good luck with your new website!  Now onto your questions: I wouldn't suggest taking on every imaginable category of news, instead I would focus on one topic. Your sitemap should only links to pages on your website, however the pages should (and most likely must) present the source of the original news article. Yes. For text a regular sitemap will work, for video check out video sitemaps, and I am not too sure about podcasts, maybe someone else will be able to chime in on that. • Hi barry, If you use these PLR with a standard spun, it will eventually have a negative effect. (especially after the scraper update and the panda) I would do large scale spun (paragraph, sentences)

  • There are many sites that use those premium themes. I use Thesis myself, in part because it had features that WP itself didn't (easy way to adjust drop-down nav menus for one). I've also used Genesis with one of their templates. If you're in a specific niche, buying a theme can reduce the amount of time you spend customizing the site because others have already added in the features you need. Michael Gray (graywolf) and Rae Hoffman-Dolan (sugarrae) both use Thesis and have detailed reviews and tutorials on their sites. Copyblogger runs his site on Genesis, and I believe he has detailed reviews there as well.

  • It's a good idea but I would suggest that you really want that as part of your main domain rather than a subdomain. Any links pointing at it wouldn't be helping the main domain. Now I don't know enough to suggest a fix, but a quick google found me this: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=5e5e79427977d86a&hl=en I've never used mod_proxy, but apparently you can use it to have a different ip address for a subfolder. I believe it's ProxyPass Directive that you're after. Hope that helps.

  • I'm pretty sure you won't get in with just aggregated news, but can have some (though I'm thinking far less than half). This - http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/news/thread?tid=73066884b4c853e1&hl=en - suggests to only submit original content. Alternatively - http://googlenewsblog.blogspot.com/2010/11/credit-where-credit-is-due.html - says you can add the source or canonical tag to give credit back to the originating site (and likely look far more trustworthy when someone checks. I had a dig around for when I last got a site into Google News but couldn't find actual content guidelines. Here's the guidelines I could find about when making a submission: Provide a good historical background of the site Show awards the site received Give stats on the site Tell them about your editors and authors (I think you need 3 editors :s) Tell them about who links to your site Make sure you are news related or mostly news related. Make sure your site complies with the technical requirements, and show them that is does. Having author bio pages I believe is also a plus. You can always submit it and see what feedback you are given.

  • We aim to create the material and distribute them through PR agencies of our clients in HTML. If we are not the creator, we get the material in DOC, optimize it and send it in HTML to the PR agencies. However, one of our large clients, has an worldwide system from which you can dowload material in HTML, optimize it and send in HTML to their local PR agencies or upload back to the system.

  • Maybe it's time for some old fashioned shmoozing? Make some contacts with people that might blog about your articles, or refer to them, or simply tweet about them? The ablemag twitter account is very dry, so maybe inject some personality into it and build some helpful relationships? I also think it might be interesting to widen your net somewhat, so your target market is people seeking disability news, that's fine, but there are other people who may well blog about some of the things you write even if they aren't your demographic. It's an odd subject but people interested in body modification or transhumanism may well be interested in some of the things you write. Both of the following articles would serve as a starting point for some linkbait for that demographic: http://ablemagazine.co.uk/artificial-pancreas-in-pregnancy-promises-fewer-diabetes-deaths-and-abnormalities/ http://ablemagazine.co.uk/pistorius-eyes-2012-with-new-pb/ PS I PM'd you a few ideas, let me know if you didn't get it.
