What happens if we are using Yext and Moz Local at the same time? I hear it can create duplicates. However if the NAP is exactly the same on both, why cant the aggregators/citation sources figure this out on their own?

I need to develop a clearer understanding before i start submitting a select few of my clients through Yext. I do have the option to opt out of the Factual aggregator on Yext. Instead we would only update the sites that Yext has access to.

End of day we are going to continue using Moz.com/local but yext saves us dozens of man hours while trying to clean up citations and fix duplicates (temporarily ofcourse until we contact them ourselves).

Yup i just checked again and its definitely been hit. I also have some clients who are ranking very well and they are on this directory, however we are not seeing a negative effect.

Nothing wrong with a directory link which is human edited. However we only choose a handful like business.com, best of the web and etc.. we definitely do not spam.

Been doing some searches for this directory, we have used them for quite a few links and now it seems as though they do not show up in serps for branded terms and the actual "www.hotvsnot.com" search phrase. Scary! Have a look let me know if you are having the same issue ladies and gents.

I have many legal clients in all of your practice areas so this is hitting close to home and i think you could improve in so many ways. One suggestion below.

Show some indicators on your home page via an in-content internal link to the PI page you mentioned .

Also you have two pages competing for the personal injury keyword. Choose one page to target the personal injury keyword. Choose one page and add your office locations to the footer.

Maybe optimize your image  name http://www.kempruge.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/90201067_8.jpg but do not over optimize.

You could also benefit from some additional link building to the page you want to rank.

A client just setup word press. They have a ton of content on their blogger account. Today they stated they were moving the content to their blog. My knee jerk response is to leave it where it is. I am posting this question to re affirm my position. Unless there are some pro's to moving this over.

Looks like they are still ranking. This is a very odd tactic. Waiting on any input .

I have a client who is national , but they are situated to ship to specific cities (5 or 6 metros) faster. The questions is: can we be harmed in any way by google if we do not have an address in the specific city?

Anyone have any input on the tactics being used for a national company trying to target local city pages. For instance, you might be a national printing company and you are trying to compete against local printers in cities by creating a specific page for that city + print keywords.

Had a potential client contact me the other day about his site being penalized by the big panda. A few days later he tells me that his current SEO copied his site over to a new domain name via 301 redirect.

Its been a week and he's ranking for search terms as though nothing has happened. He was not ranking anywhere near page 1 (with his old domain name) before this redirect.

Im curious if anyone has experienced the same anomaly. Surely he will drop once the next ranking update comes.... right?

I agree with Matt, there is no go-to directory. A directory or listing can have value for one site but not for another based on relevance, location, and site quality.

If you're looking for a list of directories that MIGHT be valuable then you're going about it all wrong. Don't waste your time with directory listings. Instead, spend time building good off-site content and link bait.  Look at the two following discussions for ideas and caveats.

One of our clients has some shady old links that we just recently discovered with a new link analysis tool. Not sure if they are harming the site or not but given the nature and verocity of the latest penguin updates we want to remove or negate their effects on the site asap.  Thanks

I think it depends on the actual directory as well as its relation to the website's niche.  Some directories will still hold value, while others might actually hurt a site.  If the directory is related to the site's niche and has a natural www, http, or branded anchor text then they should offer value. With paid directories I would be super careful though, unless it's something like the BBB.

Local directories and citations are still important for local business site rankings too. In addition they give awesome referral traffic because the site or business profile page will show up in serps.

Some of our  clients have old directory listings with anchor text that is over-optimized, so we're working on diversifying and/or removing them completely.

When you look at these competitors' paid directory links and their authority, you also need to consider a couple of other things: their relevance to that directory's topic, the date the listing was created, and whether a user would find that listing valuable.  At the end of the day it's all about user experience, and there are still a few directories out there whose listings would be valuable to a user if they found them in a search.

From what I understand using the no follows would be page sculpting and also a no follow attribute is used at Google's discretion?

I have a client who wants to create drop down menus on their E commerce Site. Currently they do not have any.

If we create drop down menus I am afraid we will loose too much category and product page power.  However these drop downs would be good for the user. To accomplish this drop down menu without negative SEO side effects I had an idea.

Create a javascript menu.

Google's spiders do not read javascript correct? This would bypass any negative effect of having an HTML menu correct?
