Classified Sites Ranking on Page 1
Not necessarily. Can you provide a link to Google SERP so I can answer this accurately? Sometime (pretty often) Google will show one page but provide the rankings due to another page. For example, I have a strong "CCTV Cameras" category page and under I have a "[Specific Type of CCTV Camera] " page. The first page is strong and he will provide me with high ranks but it dosen't mean it will be show for it. Instead, due to visitor data or/and social signals, the second page may appear if it's temporarily more popular. After it gets removed (i.e. sold out) the first page, or other trendier topic related page, will assume the position. This scenario can be discovered by looking at 100 results (use. advance search) there sometimes youll find several results from the same site, side by side - where in basic search youve saw only one single result. This is a symbiotic relationship I`m talking about. The 1st and displayed result is not the "cause" for high rank, it just "riding co-tails" of other strong pages. From what you`ve described, you see some of these too ( " take over 1 or more of the page one results in my niche...") For these, if the 1st page gets removed, another will probably take its place...

FAQS For Seo & Long Tail Optimization
Hi, it would be a good idea provided that the sections aren't keyword stuffed like you say your competitors are. Information like shipping, schedules etc. sound like they'll be useful for visitors, so it could be a win-win situation if done correctly. Good luck!

Google Analytics
Don't feel bad- we do the same thing and I'm convicted it's not accurate. I can find a link between our PPC and the longptail even though it's reporting under organic. It seems like the real time is very glitchy as well.

Youtube Videos For SEO
Here are the benefits that I have seen from videos. We started making them for one of our sites in November. We display them on Youtube and on our website. As you mentioned they have increased the "time-on-site" significantly. We display a couple on our homepage and they get viewed a lot. They let people know that we have more videos inside. I am sure that they contribute to pageviews. When we post them on YouTube --- we have our URL visible in the video window - this probably earns some domain queries and that tells google that people are asking for our site by name --- we have a link in our video description and many people use it --- these links are visible in google webmaster tools --- our videos display in the SERPs at google.com for some of our important keywords --- one of our videos ranks #1 for our most important keyword on youtube, we have several videos on that YouTube SERP --- our videos are being viewed hundreds of times every day on YouTube --- I often use the word "VIDEO" in my title tags. I think that should earn clicks from people. Lots would rather watch a video than read. --- philosophically if your site and my site have articles of equal value but yours has two images and mine has two videos which has richer content? Maybe google will rank that one higher. It is impossible to say exactly how google weighs this stuff but videos are not too hard to make and I think that they bring value to your site.

Alt. Tags
I don't think there is any magic number of keywords ie 7...., your ALT tags should be descriptive enough so that anyone with a screen reader can understand what the image is about. There is no rules about ensuring all your keywords are lower case in your ATL tags but your file names should all try and remain lowercase if possible within your CMS for consistency. You also don't want to include hyphens between your ATL tag keywords unless they are dynamically generated by your CMS and you have no control. It may not be prefect SEO tactics but I always ensure my ALT tags and description can be interchanged and remain consistent. Sure you can find several websites who over optimise and stuff keywords into the ALT tags but in my experience keeping it short to 1-3 keywords has the best chance of showing up in Google. The title issue can have your designers wanting to stab your eyes out, I've had fights with design agencies in the past because I implemented "title" tags, it's really down to preference but you can use both I would just suggest making them consistent.

High Ranking, Low DA & PA
Is there anyway around the Exact keyword usage in the url? EX- Searching for "jason aldean tickets" this site www.jasonaldeantickets.org shows up on page #1 among very high ranking sites that have been around a number of years. if you click on a link on the .org site to purchase inventory there is a 301 back to the main site, you can see the url/name changes. Is there anyway for google to eventually filter these out? Thanks

How Can a website with Far lower links and authority outrank me?
These situations are becoming much less common than they were a few years ago. But this still occurs often in niches with low competition. It can also occur when a domain has more authority than you realize or links that are not being displayed in the tool that you are checking. They could be new links or redirected links. From what I have seen, this type of page rarely beats a good page on a well-established domain.

Alt Text On Buy Buttons
Hi, In regards to keyword stuffing; yes it can be an issue in alt tags and personally I believe it is a spam signal to the search engines. For example, a good alt tag would be along the lines of: 'A young couple stood in front of the Egyptian pyramids whilst on holiday' However, you will find some people will stuff and go with: 'Egypt, Egyptian, Egypt Holidays, travel to Egypt, flights to Egypt, see the pyramids' etc It's fairly easy for Google, and your customers, to see that you are trying to manipulate the rankings. The alt tags should be a simple description of the image, however you need to be SEO savy enough to include your keywords as well. In regards to your site; if your competitor isn't using alt tags on their buttons, then it's a fantastic opportunity for you to take the lead. It's difficult to tell you what would/wouldn't work, but if you work on the lines of offering a genuine description then you will be fine. If your site is selling events, then it makes sense to explain in the alt tag that this is a buy button for X event on X date. Again, with a little bit of code trickery you can have this created dynamically so it's on a quick job and will happen automatically whenever you add a product/event. In regards to making words/phrases bold or italic; there is no SEO benefit or risk here so it should be simply down to what looks best and what portrays the information in the best way for your visitors. Thanks, David

SEOMoz Tool Bar
I've never heard of that happening before. If you've had it happen, the best thing to do is contact the help desk at seomoz.org/help. What can happen is that if you're doing a bunch of complex searches, or in a location with many people on the same IP, Google can throw up the captcha at you and prevent you from searching for a bit. I've had this happen when I was going lengthy queries with several advanced operators, and have seen it often at search conferences.

Image Description & Image Title
Why not have the image title and description correspond with what is in the picture? I believe that if you build a website for your visitors that overtime you will see the best results. You cant ignore SEO but be practical about it.

Manually Submitting To Google Index
No you don't need to do it every time you add content. If you have sitemap in place ( On your website), it will automatically update itself.

Can Google ban for use of Press Releases?
It's very unlikely that Google would hit you with a manual penalty for press releases, especially if the content isn't spammy. Whether or not they give much or any value to links coming from PR sites is another question. Press releases are a normal part of an established business and aren't really considered link manipulation in most cases. My company puts out several press releases on PRWeb every week and while we haven't seen any great SEO advantage, we haven't seen any sort of penalty either. We do get some referral traffic and every so often a larger site will pick up one of the releases for their own content. On top of that we often get scrapers snagging and spinning our content but they generally don't keep the links pointed at us. Best, Jason

Open Site Explorer
OSE can be a couple months behind at times. I think this last one was through May? I also think I read that it has a smaller index than previous ones so your links may not appear. But I would use a variety of tools. OSE is great but it often misses a bunch of notable links. WBT also has a great tool for checking site links
