Paying for listing rather than a link
Brendan's advice is pertinent if your are specifically buying a link, but there is a huge caveat to this information. It is not uncommon for other services such as Yahoo Local, or lead generating resources to provide a service of which includes a link to your website. In these cases you're not actually buying a link but a service. Google has indeed cracked down on directory type listing websites because they really offer no value to anybody on the web. However when services are attached, such as lead generation, technical advice, consulting etc.. often times a link to your site is part of the service and shouldn't be lumped into calling it a purchased link.. per-say. Hope this makes sense, Don

Spammy links
In my opinion this is a very obvious case of negative SEO against your client domain More information about Negative SEO here: http://moz.com/blog/preparing-for-negative-seo I would really NOT wait to see if this links affects the rankings and do disavow as soon as possible. Why? Because it´s possible that the domain is still not penalized because "Penguin" has not checked your client domain yet, but once the domain get caught, domain reputation will be ruined. Good luck

301 redirect homepage question
As far as I know site.com and site.com/ are two different pages of the same domain for google. That's why one of the very first thing in any to-do list when setting up a new website is to configure url rewrite to secure only one version is served and the other is redirected.

Google certification
I agree. Google should make the tests very difficult and require a very high score for a person to say that they are "certified by google". The test is easy and only 75% is needed to be "certified". Do you want a person who does not know 25% of the facts running your $20,000 per month campaigns. That means that they are blowing $5000 per month. Google needs a kick in the pants.

301 redirect question
I'm with keszi on this, redirect all pages anyway as they still had some value. Think of Google as a user for a second, it was aware of all these pages and suddenly they are gone. Those pages were valuable to Google, and if not redirected that value disappears.

Different meta descriptions for same page
What difference in the meta description do you see ? Is the SERP page showing up different meta description that the one you have entered ? Or, SERP is showing different meta description when you search for "yourdomainname.com" and "search terms" ? I would suggest you to manually check with the meta description from the source code to see if it is the same meta description you are using. Don also has suggest you a very useful link. Additional help can be from https://yoast.com/google-page-title/ http://moz.com/blog/why-wont-google-use-my-meta-description Cheers

Local SEO question
Hey There, This post should help you become conversant with the ins and outs of local landing pages: http://moz.com/blog/local-landing-pages-guide You can definitely optimize each city landing page you build for the city in question. The main pitfall to avoid with this practice is developing thin or duplicative pages. Be sure if you're embarking on this content development project that you have the resources to devote to making unique pages of the highest possible quality. Hope this helps!

Google Tag Manager?
Google Tag Manager is a great tool that almost anyone can begin to use easily. Before GTM, webmasters used to have to pay for similar services, but now Google has given us a tool for free. Tags are pieces of code, for example the Google Analytics javascript snippet that allows use to track visitors and populates your Google Analaytics data. Many plugins and website features are delivered through tags. More examples would be slideshows (nivo slider), share buttons (add this), link & event tracking (google analytics event tracking), conversion pixels (affiliates, goal conversions), javascript/css files, and many more. One of the biggest issues is that a robust website (hell, even simple websites) begins to have many tags added to a page to deliver all the desired functionality. Those tags begin to bloat a web page, decrease page load speed, and cause usability problems. In addition, it becomes very difficult to properly manage all those tags at a large scale. The Google Tag manager provides a central location to add and manage all of these tags easily. You can specify when tags should be added to a page, when they should fire, and other important rules to optimize the placement and execution of these tags. GTM takes this even further and allows us to easily manage additional functionality through the interface, such as the link and event tracking mentioned above. I highly recommend that you learn how to use the GTM and its benefits. Here is a wonderful guide that OptimizeSmart put together for the GTM. http://www.optimizesmart.com/google-tag-manager-implementation-guide/

Metatags on drupal question
Hi, First off it would be useful to know which version of Drupal you are using, which modules you have installed to control Meta Tags and the version of that module you have installed. It sounds like you might be running Drupal 7 and are perhaps using the Meta Tags Module (the version - can be found under /admin/build/modules)? The page at /admin/config/search/metatags allows you to set up meta tag defaults for different content types using tokens, such as the node's title, site name etc. However, you should be able override this on a per node (page) basis. Take a look at this video and it will guide you through it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SviVqtAinSk#t=5m56s. If that doesn't help let me know what happened and all the version details and we can explore further watch?v=SviVqtAinSk#t=5m56s

PPC Keyword list
Hi I know this is a bit late, but I just wanted to follow up in case you were doing this again in the future. There will always be high volume queries out there, but your goal with starting a campaign for one product is likely to make sure that product is a viable source of profit. I would suggest starting out with the most specific queries first, then moving "up the funnel" to more vague, less specific queries. This doesn't even have to be done all at once. This can be done in stages if you are trying to launch fast. So if you're selling a specific electronic device, you can start with the specific model number, then to the most common name for that specific device (in the case of Phones, you could call it the G3 instead of LGVX####), then to manufacturer and the most general of queries (like "new phone").

Duplicate content question
One trick you can do is dilute the text pretty easily and make some small changes to make them compete with each other instead of one canceling two out like a duplicate content will get you. You could try something like this and it should be pretty easy to implement if you are using a template based cart system. Shop 1 - Just have the normal product description on the page and all of the standard text you have from your menu, ect basically changing nothing. Shop 2 - If your site is utilizing rich snippets, change them on a template level. Most work like this $template_variable So on the second site delete a little bit of the rich snippet data, say the condition and the manufacturer name. At the same time on every product page add a 200-400 word shipping and return policy. As the current standards are, that should dilute everything enough to look like a totally different page. Shop 3 - Basically the same as shop 2, change the rich snippet data that is sent a little. Maybe it could be adding manufacturer data that is not in the other templates, or taking something else that is non essential out of the template. Then add in on the product pages a different but meaning the same 100-200 word shipping policy. At the same time either add in an "about" section for the manufacturer, or if you have too many manufacturers for this to be reasonable add in an about for your company on every product page. By doing this you will make the pages compete with each other instead of making one page dominate. If you are using a template based CMS, the changes should be easy and should only take about an hr or two to do, minus the time to write the content.
