Concentrate in getting qualified fans.  Use that money in Facebook ads.  This is the best way to grow targeted fans that will engage your page.  If you look at any page with influential number, you will see a engagement rate of less than 1%.

I know it's cliche, but quality over quantity.  Having 100 fans that are engaged is better than 1000 fans that will ignore you.

Through ads, I have discover new segments of client to which target by analyzing my real fans profiles.  This is a great exercise that will help you create better content and have an active page.

I would spend it on anything that will produce more profits.  I know is a silly response but the truth is that a lot of people do not do that.

I would recommend to invest time and not money in learning SEO.  Whether you can do in house SEO for you site in the interim or have good fundamentals to monitor what you are paying for, it will help you in the long run.

You can also use a mix of adwords to help you get sales now while your SEO site matures.  Also follow what Brent said.

I would go for anything less than 40%.  SeoMoz has a good descriptions in the Keyword Analysis Page of what each percentage range means.  Maybe this can help you access what you can tackle.

I agree with Alan.  I have a few clients (lawyers) that I suggest getting a domain name with their practice and their area (e.g. type of law + area).  This works great if they are mid level firm.  They care more about traffic than branding.

One book that helped me a lot was Search Engine Optimization Secrets by Danny Dover. That one and the art of seo were my starting point. I keep going back again to both books over and over.

I agree.  The client has been doing linkbuilding internally and adhoc.  The anchor text is his website name.  That is why he is bringing me into the picture.

Thanks for the reply.  I believe option 1 will be good for the home page, but interior pages end with an .asp extention, which complicate things.  I usually set the permalinks to /%postname%/, but on this case it will not help me with interior pages.

I would say that 90% of the backlinks are to the homepage, so in that case the structure will be the same.  I would probably 301 the interior pages.

I am converting a site from ASP.net to wordpress. The ASP site has a decent backlink profile. Most links are pointing to their homepage.

Is there anything I should be on the lookout so I do not lose their link profiles? I believe we are using the same server.

I believe this is the way to go: RewriteRule ^OldFolder/?(.*) http://www.yourdomain.com/NewFolder/$1 [R=301,L] The $1 on the end of the URL appends anything extra after /NewFolder/ onto the new dir.

I usually add &pwd=0 at the end of the query string.

Make sure you have your images with unique names and alt tags.

I use Excel 2010 so my approach would be as follows:

1. Make a backup copy of your file before you start.

2. You will need to sort each row by value, but Excel has a 3 sort level limit, so you will need to add a macro.

3. Assuming your data starts in A1 and has no header row,  Put it in a general module, go back to excel, activate your sheet, then run the macro from Tools=>Macro=>Macros.

4. Then Highlight all your cells and then go to Data -> Remove Duplicates

The result should be all unique rows. I hope this helps.

IMHO, there is no simple/short way.  This is the part that is time consuming, but it is worth it.  I always hesistant to trust this process to someone I do not know.

I usually start with a good plan.

1. Find potential High Quality sites - (going for quality not quantity)
2. Develop a tracking process (Excel or other cloud service).
3. Contact the sites, personalize emails and provide value to them.  It must be a win-win for both parties (Please note that win-win does not have to be reciprocal links).
4. Rinse and Repeat.

I would suggest that instead to paying for a 3rd party to build the links, create the plan and hire a virtual assisstant.  Give them a to do list and monitor performance.

That way you can oursource the repetitive process (e.g. submitting to directories, etc.) and have a good control on your link building process.

Depending on the length of your script, fiverr can be an option. I have used it on small projects and it had worked for me. I have used it for short promo videos, podcasts intros and segment transitions. It worth a look.

YouTube is the way to go.

I agree with willny. You might want to take a look at Ontolo.com and buzzstream.com.  I used them for my link building strategies.  Make sure you personalize your emails and provide them value.

I would also create videos showing specific types of jewelry (rings, chains, etc.) and post them on video sites.  Make sure you brand the videos and tags them to your client's site.
