RE: What shall I call my site?
ok, then both domain names are "appropriate" ...
the best way would be to take one to target the "tourists who book last minute" and the other one to target those who book from the States in advance ... You would gain a very good range then and ensure to use two good domain names in the right way...

RE: If the order of products on a page changes each time the page is loaded, does this have a negative effect on the SEO of those pages?
A very interesting question!
You have to think about that issue more precisely: is the whole content of the site changing? Or is just a section of this page rotating?
If there is rotation of a section only, this won`t do your site any harm but if the whole content changes every time the site is opened / re-loaded, then this might cause some problems.
You have to give this site one static component, even if it`s just the title of the page and 2 or 3 short introductional sentences which do not change so frequently. Put them at the top of the page.
If you do so and the rest of the site changes, then the worst case would be that Google will change the descriptive text while displaying the answers on the search queries only.
It might also be a question of how this rotation of products is technical realized?

RE: Is analytics data kept after PRO account is discontinued? And/or can we step back up later again, and acces it?
1st question: yes
2nd question: you won
t see any data for this periode of time - during this time you will get a graph which shows zero, even if you change back to the Pro version... Ive experienced that by myself... maybe they`ve changed it but 3 months ago this is what happened then.3rd question: I`ve experienced that this is not possible... your campaigns will be achieved (the old data and the settings) you can re-start them when you change back to PRO

RE: Offering discounts and getting backlinks - concerned.
You are not! Your thoughts about that issue are absolutely correct. I also would recommend that things like that should be done (if they have to be done!?) in a very moderate way!
Linkbuilding using campaigns that offer something (doesn`t matter what) when others create a link to your site is a kind of "buying links". Of course this is not an uncommon way to create links but Google will always take a closer look on how you do that - if this is done excessively the risk is high to get a penalty.

RE: Still no PageRank After Months
what you should know in that case is that Google has not made a pagerank update for almost 9 months now:

RE: What is the difference between using .htaccess file and httpd.conf in implementing thousands of 301 redirections?
I had a discussion about that question with our programmers and they all told me that they would gladly use httpd.conf if they could... so when your refer to a case study this ist just a plain opinion of our IT

RE: Short EMD or Longer Partial MD: Which is better for SEO
I don
t see any advantage if you switch from a well-established (5 year old) domain that is already ranking in good positions to a brand new one. Its a hard job and a lot of work and even if you redirect the old to the new one there will occure some changes. I would also recommend to redirect the new domain to the old one.I general it is a popular opinion that "EMD" is a little bit better than just "PMD" and the shorter, the better BUT this is not a written law. If you do an overall good job these aspects won`t have such a big effect on your rankings.

RE: Http to https - is a '302 object moved' redirect losing me link juice?
Definitely YES!
Use a 301 as soon as possible... this is the only correct way to ensure that your linkjuice is passed to the new URL

I

RE: What shall I call my site?
Have you answered yourself the question if you want to advertise more local or within a wider range?
I would use the 2nd one... I like that more because it seems to be "accurate" ...
You might be very right that the name of a domain is no longer "the most important thing" according to all those changes which already took place and all those changes that might take place...
BUT
It is still a relevant ranking factor if you can use a domain name that fits for the proper keywords... and it CAN help you to make things a little bit more easier.
Experts will tell you that you should focus on unique content and all those things closely associated with that and they are absolutely right!
AND in addition to that It won`t hurt and it will have a significant impact if you choose the right domain according to the content you will focus on... do a keyword research and take the results into your consideration...

RE: What is the best tool to track US positions from the UK?
searchmetrics & sistrix are international tracking tools used in Germany... but not for free

RE: Which internal page approach is better? Couponsite/Kohls OR Couponsite/Houston/Kohls
well this depends on the question whom you want to target???
Do you want to spread/offer this coupon nationwide or just for interested people in Houston?
If you use this local "parameter" then your site CAN be more relevant if the visitor can be located in this area or if he/she uses the word "Houston" in his query... of course your site should be optimized for this relevant keyword!
by the way: if you just decide to offer this coupon in different locations you should do more than just change the city within your content otherwise it
s DC or at least partial DC and that wont do you any good. -
RE: Duplicate Page Title error for an eCommerce store !!
duplicate content is often closely connected to a duplicate page title - but mainly not with shops
how many duplicate content errors do you have?
You have to imagine, that you always present the same title according to the fact, that you`ve several sites to let your customers scroll through. Tell the Google Bot, which url he should index by using rel=canonical
Together with rel="next" & rel="prev" this should solve the issue
Have you done that?

RE: Does Google see the connection between our 2 websites?
No.
If you build a network of satellite sites to support your main site, this is always a difficult thing. Google is able to detect those connections in various ways (the most easiest way is to sum them all up in one GA account!).
Even if you would use separate GA accounts this would not prevent Google from detecting your connections.
If you overdo that you will get no positive effect and the risk to get a penalty will rise.
E.g. if you use 5 sites to support your main site this might be ok, but if you build up 30 sites Google will recognize that as not trustworthy.
There are several ways to avoid that - for example to use different IP classes from different networks. This can be done if you use different registrars for your websites BUT if Google wants to find out about that, Google will be successful. If you become suspicious they will check the whois and if the data is always the same... BANG
Never, never use anonymous registration. Those sites always have serious trouble.
So please be careful with your network! It`s a lot of work and time with lots of snares.
But to answer your question: it won`t help you if you use different GA accounts.

RE: GA Profile - Change UA code
Hey Chris,
please take a look at the attachment... it should look like that.
So you don`t see that within your account?

RE: How big is the effect of having your site hosted in the country you're targeting?
It is definitely a ranking criteria BUT if you do your homework right by focussing on other ranking factors, you do not need to consider it. To make it perfect: if you can, always use the right ccTLD.
Concentrate on keyword domains, with the right ccTLD but if you can`t use keyword domains despite their CC
Take a look at the actual list of ranking factors here

RE: 418 error
never mind... it`s kind of a joke (teapot / coffee pot) - behind this "joke" is a 200 code which means "ok" ...
