Thinking about deindexing 200,000 pages
I decided to noindex all the pages, but I brought the links back that point to these pages but added the nofollow attribute as well to all of those. From a Google standpoint these pages are not worth indexing, but for user experience the links are needed. Thanks

Word structure on page optimization
Cesar, I do not believe the way you list will matter in terms of the way the bot reads the page. Assuming all are in the body, the bot goes left to right and top to bottom. So, unless there is a specific trigger that says terms with links separated by a comma are a negative, I do not see a problem. I assume your links are internal or if not are going to something explaining the term. But, as a dictionary site, I would be driven by what works for the reader. So, with Scrabble players looking for words with a Q, a Z, a J, an X and three A's, how would they find it? (Please hurry as I need to make a play!) Hope this helps a bit.

Ugh...getting organized with my SEO
Cesar, I hear where you're coming from - I am prone to some of the same challenges. Here's a phrase to keep in mind: Success isn't about getting things done right, it's about getting the right things done. The reality is there is a literally never-ending supply of the "little things" that are easier to focus on because the steps needed for them are clear and less stressful, therefore more comfortable to deal with. Except focusing only on them is the path to almost certain destruction. It's way harder to work on the bigger stuff not just because it takes longer, but because there are far more unknowns involved, which makes it so much more uncomfortable. But working through them and figuring them out will give far greater returns in the actual advancement of your site, as you already admit. So a suggestion: what if you blocked out a couple of hours twice a week to work only on the really big stuff. Don't allow yourself to even look at or start any little stuff during those times. If you spot something little that bugs you, jot down a note for later, but make those several hours sacred - BIG STUFF ONLY!! The rest of the time, you can work as usual, but at least for a couple hours twice a week, the big stuff is getting attention. One last thing. You're going to HAVE to learn to get comfortable with not finishing everything at one sitting. Much of the "big stuff" is just too big to chew through all in one go. If you have to, break a big one into specific chunks, and work a chunk all the way through, but stop thinking you have to "eat the elephant all in one sitting". Usually you just can't. As the project management experts all advise, break large tasks into smaller specific jobs. Then you won't feel as overwhelmed about starting them. My $.02. Whattaya think? Paul

Hit with Panda, but still confused
Hi Lilac, This is an older thread, and it's probably best to start a new question on this topic rather than add to this older question. Thanks!

To many links hurting me even though they are helping users
Hey Cesar I have grabbed the URL from your profile and will give you some answers and suggestions as to ways to tackle this. Firstly, can you just feed back on your goals here? What are you trying to achieve? Is it just to remove these errors in the SEOMoz tool? Or are you looking to improve the ranking of these category pages? I will assume it's a bit of both and give you some suggestions. 1. Removing the links is probably not the best approach as your are going to orphan all those children pages so they may fall out the index and like you say, it kind of works for users. That said, having so many links on the page is not great either. If this was me I would probably break things down a little further and stop having single pages doing so much work. So, as an example: http://www.freescrabbledictionary.com/words-with-z/ Here we have several categories and a ton of links under each category so why not put each category on it's own page? So, a page for 6 letter words with z, 5 letter words with z, 4 letter words with z etc. You could still show a sample of the words for each category but you would take the number of links right down and also possibly create some more specific and targeted landing pages for search traffic. You already have the links to each section but they use anchors on this page rather than separate pages so that is a simple way to keep it user friendly, bag some new landing pages and take the number of keywords per page down. Things get a bit more unwieldy when we look at the words-with-a page as opposed to the words with z as there are just so many more words (links). So, the suggestion above is still valid, but I would likely introduce some pagination as well with all the standard SEO rules of pagination applied. You have two options here with as either rel=prev and rel=next to indicate they are part of a series or rel=canonical to the first page. You would have to give this some thought as I don't know how your users arrive but I would tend to swing towards rel=next & rel=prev in this instance to show this is a series and sometimes people may want to land at page 2, 3 etc if they are looking for a specific word. It may even be that you have the main page as a view all page and then still have pagination but the specifics depend upon what is best for your users and search. Some good reading: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/pagination-with-relnext-and-relprev.html http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/view-all-in-search-results.html http://www.seomoz.org/q/pagination-ajax-rel-next-and-previous-rel-canonical-and-meta-noindex 2. Removing the links Yeah, it will likely hurt as you are saying these pages are not important enough to have any links to them. I think the above pretty much answers this one but that is not a good idea. Just be smarter in how you link to these pages and you will be okay. Hope that helps! Marcus

Can't rank with certain keywords for the life of me
Thanks for using my site also I have always had a hard time with "content" because no one uses my site for content, they use them for my forms (just like you :)) I consider myself a "tools" based website. The way I figured was that people care more about my form than anything else, so putting that form on every page will make it easier for users to get what they need. That was my reason for adding the form to almost every page. Fluff? Yeah totally fluff lol - Good ideas I will make some of those changes Call to action - with trying to keep a form on every page could I make the call to action scroll down and place the form at the bottom of the page? or you think just have one main page with the form?

Finding links online that already exist as link juice based on search results
Looks like a custom Google search on a domain, probably running adsense. These are just search results and are not going to help your rankings.

Adwords campaign and adgroup ideas
It's not bad necessarily. You want to keep your ad text and landing page relevant to the keywords in each ad group. So if you have a keyword in which you want a very specific ad to show up, that's fine. Otherwise, if you're ok with the same ad text and landing page showing up for a set of keywords, you can put all of those keywords in the same ad group. Note that you can control max CPC bids on keywords, so if one isn't converting as well, or one is doing really well, you can change the bids at the keyword level.

Setting preferred domain as www or none www
Hi again, Cesar I think your problem is not different order of keywords but duplicated content. If you have two websites with the same content it can be a problem and it was probably the reason of Panda influence on your website. let me understand, do you have: http://www.example.com and http://example.com with the same content? more: http://www.seomoz.org/pages/search_results?q=duplicated+content http://www.seomoz.org/pages/search_results?q=www+or+non+www In my opinion you should choose better site (www or non-www) by checking a value in OSE and finally do a 301 redirection of lower ranked to higher ranked and do the same in GWT ...that means choose higher ranked as your primary. Are nofollow links really not effecting rank?
The value of a link is a complex thing, to be honest. Your 2m 'no follow' links can have a variety of value depending on The number of domains those are placed on The position of those links on the linking site The value of the page the link is placed on The actual anchor text in that link. Also try not to think of links purely in terms of ranking. At the end of the day, ranking is great, but what you really want is traffic. A 'natural' link profile will have some nofollow links in it (in most cases) and you may find some nofollows are great at driving traffic. On the flip side you also want a good proportion of followed links as these represent a 'full value vote' for your site, rather than somewhat of a disassociation, which a nofollow can imply. So get a variety of links from a variety of sources in a variety of ways but don't ignore a potential linking opportunity just because it may be nofollow as there may be other advantages to be gained that purely ranking.

Am I obsessed with my rank?
+1 - I used to spend a lot of time getting high off good rankings and low off poor ones. But it's too much of a rollercoaster, and as kchan says, doesn't actually help you build your business. These days I try to stay away from timesinks like this as much as possible and focus on strategy and implementation. (Don't open your email until 11am - my top tip for getting your business moving

Tool based websites after Panda and Penguin
EGOL's "Free Beer" post is awesome. I think what I am suffering from is just the other sites are more authoritative than me. That's an awesome recommendation What kind of title you think I should go with?

Pagerank and combining pages
My guess is that you have not yet built backlinks to your deep pages and their pagerank is coming solely from the link on the menu of your homepage (which means there's no linkjuice to redirect). If you did have deep links, a redirect would salvage some authority and add it to your homepage. "PR3" is a pretty useless metric anymore. Install the seomoz toolbar and use PA as a much better measure of your link profile.

Few questions about panda and penguin
If you listen to Matt Cutts, the advice would be to think about the user experience. If those links on that page make it easier for the user and makes your page better, than that is how Google would tell you to go. You said that kewyword optimization is a no-no, but Google says OVER optimization is a no-no. In my opinion, I think they are referring to linking over-optimization for a particular keyword and lack of link diversity, creating an unnatural-looking linking pattern.
