I have been trying to gain some position in our local O-pack results and have used whitespark to hunt for citations and aquire as many as possible, but even after 4-5 months google has still not detected many of the citations we have added. What are you favourite citation sources? which ones really help? i.e. what are some quality canadian citation sources?

How to get a news article / post to show up in a google trend for your keyword?
Does anyone know how google selects the news articles it displays in google trends?
EX: http://www.google.com/trends?q=glitch+hop%2C+dubstep&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
See how dubstep has a couple posts that show up when searched in google trends? these are different than regular SERPS as far as i can tell. Does anyone know how google selects them?

RE: What's the deal with this local business directory? (http://www.camerchants.com/)
Hey! thanks for the info! this is awesome, i'll give them a call tomorrow and see if it gets me anywhere.

RE: What's the deal with this local business directory? (http://www.camerchants.com/)
I've fixed all the others. at least all the others that i can find with extensive googling and whitesparks tools. Not sure how to look for other incorrect listings out there.

RE: What's the deal with this local business directory? (http://www.camerchants.com/)
One of those listings keeps getting google places to add another location for us, at a random address. I'm not sure how to fix this. I've tried e-mnailing the site, i've tried using the site. i'm at a loss...
The only thing i can think of is DDNS'ing the site with a botnet.

What's the deal with this local business directory? (http://www.camerchants.com/)
They have a couple listings of us with screwy info but i can't actually use their website, all the buttons that say "join" or "write a review" "uplaod an image" etc, are just an href="#" and don't actually do anything???
I figured maybe they have some broken javascript so i tried using different browsers (firefox & chrome in mac, and IE in windows.)
Here's our listings in there:
http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Storage+-+Self+Service/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTAyODAzNQ#
http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Movers/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTEwMjMyOQ
http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Movers/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTEwMjMyOA
http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Recreational+Vehicles+Storage/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTAyODU4OQ#Are you able to click anything on this website and it actually functions as advertised? am i just using the wrong browser, or is this some kind of tool competitors use to blackhat our local listings into oblivion?

RE: What do i do when all pages are grade A?
I do both. really i do anything i can anywhere i can to get good quality links from other sites. as lewis mentioned below, it is also important to focus on content building.

RE: What do i do when all pages are grade A?
I don't seem to have any difficulty getting comments approved on blogs and forums. You just have to keep your comment on topic with the post or forum. If you venture too far away from that they will deem you spammy. Try to look for blogs or forums that are actually on your topic. Also look for some blogs that have "do follow" comments pluggin installed.
often i search google for: keyword +"do follow" blog
or similar.
Also we have had luck getting links from local authority sites for projects we have done locally. Anything that can get you a bit of local publicity often you can convince them to link to you.

RE: Would you truste this link building buissness ?
Generally i have found that anything too good to be true is too good to be true. The only true way i have had any success with SEO is by using publicity stunts to get attention from other websites in a way that they choose to link to you honestly and genuinly. I find that this is often the best way to gain quality inbound links.

Work on getting more inbound links to deep pages with related anchor text, from related and trusted domains.

Why does google places keep deleting the categories i set?
I have probably set them for each of my storage locations over 20 times now. They stick for a week, only to find them have all been deleted once again.
Also, why are my competitors able to choose custom categories, where as I am not?

RE: Single Home Page Version
Not sure what your site structure is like but perhaps you want to add some lines for index.php?
rewritecond %{http_host} ^inthelighturns.com [nc]
rewriterule ^(.)$ http://www.inthelighturns.com/$1 [r=301,nc]
RewriteRule ^index.(htm|html) http://www.inthelighturns.com/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^(.)/index.(htm|html) http://www.inthelighturns.com/$1/... [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^index.(php) http://www.inthelighturns.com/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)/index.(php) http://www.inthelighturns.com/$1/... [R=301,L] -
RE: Multi-site listings in Google Local/Place pages
We have sevaral locations and have had good luck with claiming each of our locations on yelp and other local directories.
As for the individual locations pages listings i think that it is best to link to the individual pages instead of linking to the home page.

RE: Does google extract out keywords from links that use the url as the anchortext?
Thanks,
I have been wondering about this one for a while and tried asking before but nobody understood what i was asking. I'm glad someone finally got it.
I am definitely aware of all the other link metrics, but if we perhaps had a perfect scenario with all those other link metrics set aside, i would love it know if those keywords definitely count as anchor text or not.
Anyone else have an opinion?

RE: Is yummy SEO site architecture even possible with ASP.NET?
ditch asp.net ? port it to a more useful platform.

Does google extract out keywords from links that use the url as the anchortext?
If someone formats a link like so:
http://www.somedomain.com/keyword1-keyword2/keyword3.php
Would you still get a similar anchor text benefit to this link as if it was formated like so:
somedomain keyword1 keyword2 keyword3
what i mean is, does google extract out keywords from links that use the url as the anchortext?
-
RE: Does the url text count as anchor text in google's algo?
not what i ment at all. i think perhaps i wasn't clear enough.
I realize that google puts weight on domains and urls, but what i wanted to know was an entirely seperate question to that. I am talking about link juice being passed and the associated anchor text.

RE: Have I found gold ... or fools gold?
You might get a small boost in keyword specific SERPS, but i would word it differently perhaps, is your target audience searching for exactly that "official bob marley merch" ? Maybe it would be better to start the link out with "bob marley merch ..." as the order of the keywords makes a difference, you want to rank well for bob marley more than you want to rank well for official.
